I dont see why we cant have our own personal crew of pirates that we can chose to play, sometimes I get tired of my character and I have created 3 different pirates wich can be annoying because I have lost exclusive event skins and stuff. I think it can be fun and refreshing to start over, but I dont like the idea of losing everything I have earned. also its fun to create new characters and customise them and build them up.
WHY CANT WE HAVE MULTIPLE PIRATES.
@targasbr yea im the pirate, why cant i be the pirate i want to be, having multiple pirates wont ruin the emersion of the game, it will only bring new ways of playing and more fun. Im sure people would start doing pvp only pirates or pve only pirates and experiment with different ways to play and stuff like that. Plus like i said it could act as your own personal crew from the menu. You create a crew and thats your personal crew of pirates that you can play as. Its like having a story book with multiple charecters. I want to be able to experience adventures with a different pirate. I get sick of experiencing adventures with the one pirate you know waht i meaaaan???
Its like having a story book with multiple charecters.
Yes but in this case, since you are the pirate, you are the main character of this books story, you can't represent 6 different characters and all of them to be the main one. I mean it would be weird for a player to change between multiple characters for this game in particular. You can't be a buffed guy today and the next day a fine lady, and have the same reputations and gold as before with both characters, if you get what I mean.
That is the reason behind the IPG, that's why rare made it this way, firstly, for people to not have the same character and secondly, to find a pirate that suits you and build a story around him, it's your story and your journey to becoming a pirate legend.
@d4m0r3d But you can be the pirate you want to be. And this game don't have a progression that needs the creation of many characters. We do not have classes, perks, nothing. Only reputation and cosmetics that can be used by everyone.
@d3adst1ck clothing doesn't completely change the way your character looks, sometimes I want to play as a huge giant guy. sometimes I want to play as a sneaky skinny guy. especially when the big fat guy cant sneak onto ships very well without being seen, and his sleep animation is abit dodgy
@biostructr I dont want each charecter to carry over the others reputations, I want them to be fresh new pirates to start an adventure with. different pirates can create different experiences. when playing as a skinny pirate I was able to sneak onto peoples ships and hide way easier. now im a big buff guy and his animations are abit dodgy and hes not good at sneaking/hiding
@hynieth really, I must have confused multiple pokemon games for having multiple trainers or something
@d4m0r3d No prob, it's one of my personal grypes with pokemon and while I don't mind SoT having just one character slot I can understand where you're coming from. I fear you just have to settle with one tho.
Just jumping in to say @D4m0R3d and @MarsMayflower the way that I got around this was to create a second GT on my XBOX, for which I play as a basic Pirate when friends want to do low level voyages just for the fun rather than an Athena grind or a level 50 slog.
It's not a perfect solution though, especially if you work on a PC where you can't do that :(
As @Biostructr and @TargasBR have said, the game is all about reputation and getting to Pirate Legend. So if suddenly you could have more than one Pirate, you break that idea of your toon working hard to hit that iconic level of status on the sea.
@d4m0r3d you can make another account on pc or xbox and sign into it while on your other account and play that way on a different "pirate"
@sshteeve if you had multiple pirates, you will still be working hard to get pirate legend, just doing it with a different playstyle or different looking pirate. basically you would be working even harder making multiple pirates pirate legend.
@sshteeve and by making it so we only get one pirate, it kinda kills the game once you get pirate legend, it kills the motivation. having multiple pirates lets you continue playing and challenging yourself, you know what i mean. not being able to create a new character without deleting your old one kills the fun. i have deleted 2 pirates because I have got bored with them. if i could have just swapped to a dif pirate i would definitely have gone back to the old ones and worked on them more. sometimes you just need a break from the same thing. it just seems really silly to me for them not to make it so we can have multiple pirates
@lol-i-cant-see @Sshteeve when you create a new account do you have to full on sign into it or can you just click profile and swap or something, and if i create a new account do i have to buy the game again?

Oh lord, this game has been killed that often... Look at it: no more players, no progress, no fun. When I am playing it, and meet another pirate, then we fall into each other's arms in tears and regret our fate... Not.
I'd like to have a notorious griefer streamer sniper, and a goody two shoes, available to play as my mood suits me, as well as a true-nuetral anti-hero.
Where's the accountability anyways?
One pirate, one life. One cursed pirate life, thanks to the ferryman.
Kudos to the OP for being fearless with the IPG, I hope he finds what he seeks.
@d4m0r3d For me on the XBOX I do sign out of the main account (sshteeve) in order to then access Sea of Thieves as it can cause issues for the logging in process.
Because of how the box works though, you get the shared Gold connection and the shared game access through the console's home user, so I can still play SoT on sshteeve's Gold and Gamepass on my 2nd sshteeve86 gamertag.Would love to have this option, that or just let us change the appearance of our existing character. This feature is requested multiple times EVERY SINGLE WEEK. It baffles my poor little brain how this hasn't been addressed and implemented yet, especially as all progression in the game is based around cosmetics. Maybe once the premium (real life) currency/purchases are established we'll see this feature added, although I honestly think that everyone should be offered one free change before being forced to pay for additional ones.

@lol-i-cant-see dont you have to buy a new game?
you can use game sharing on xbox but I think you need a second xbox for that?
In one of the developer live streams, the topic of being able to create another character to play, without losing progress, was brought up. And the response was that they understand that desire and expect to get to that eventually. I think Joe Neate said, it's not on the immediate road-map and not being worked on yet, but it's more a question of "when" as opposed to, "if".
So, who knows when... but, the developers are not opposed to this option. They didn't go further into it though.
I know, as a PC player, you can make more than one Xbox Live account and tie them together as "Family" and can then create a new character in SoT (you need to sign out and sign in with the new account info whenever you want to switch). By doing this (connecting accounts as "family") both accounts work with the single purchase of the game. (I did this in beta, just to test it, so I don't exactly remember all the details, but it was super easy and worked)
I agree, it'd be better, for multiple reasons, if a person could simply make multiple characters through the single account.
Cheers!
@d4m0r3d I'm not sure how Microsoft feel about it but you could always set up a couple extra profiles and log in on them for other characters.
Not too difficult on Xbox just have your main profile as xbox owner and any other profiles have access to the game. This is how my partner and I have our separate pirates.
Not sure how you would work it if you're on PC.@xot3rm1n4t0rox yea i know aye, it seems so dumb to me that they force us to stick with one pirate. especially when you hit pirate legend what alot of people will do is quit the game, but if they had the option to create a new character alot of them would just do that. having multiple pirates will increase a players play time and it will make us all happy lol. i need to have multiple pirates, i dont just want to play the fat guy who is terrible at sneaking and i dont want to delete him and lose everything i have worked for. i want to experience the small skinny guy who is able to sneak and hide on peoples ships. lol ya know what i mean
