Something I would live to see in a future are more areas opening up that are themed such as Vikings and Celts. Ship decorations, clothing, weapons, all in these themes. And, a new instrument. BAGPIPES! Seriously, bagpipes mates. Along with celtic shanties and songs. Imagine the wonderous sound of drunken bagpipes. Please, I implore you all to consider the awesomeness of this.
Highlands and Vikings
@rampaginghaggis I think the name Viking meant raider or pirate, but it is doubtful that we'll ever get this, unless there is a new map implemented, fun to think about though I agree. (I am quite certain the wail of bagpipes could easily kill a kraken)
In case you missed it, here is a link to some fantastic concept art by KPTN (Max Simoneau) for a Frozen Fangs Sea of Thieves.
https://www.artstation.com/artwork/GXaoo1@rampaginghaggis well in terms of Celtic shanties we already kinda have one.
The song "what will you do with the drunken sailor" is actually sung to the tune of an ancient Irish mariner's / rebel song - "Óró sé do beatha abhaile"
In SoT "We shall sail together" (The PL tune) is sung to the tune of "what will you do with the drunken sailor" so really the PL song is just a very old Celtic song with a few new lyrics.
@boxcar-squidy we have the devils roar, i think next thing we need is a cold place on the map where maybe the water can start to freeze and it slows or damages your boat. i also think they should add more natural disasters like tornado and tsunamis
@d4m0r3d Yeah I'd like to see an icey region, eventually.
Maybe not until after the Arena and Adventure mode updates though.
There's also scope to add / remove islands if not entire regions. They seem to have a fair few cool island concepts that got cut.
As for Viking / Highland themed stuff for the game, well so long as it fits the theme. I don't wanna see longboats with cannons for example. There were plenty of RL Irish, Scottish, Welsh (Celts) and Scandanavian (Viking) pirates from the Golden Age of Piracy to draw upon for inspiration without needing to muddy fictional timelines too much.
@boxcar-squidy what if they added ships that could shoot fire balls or have flame throwers, that was a viking thing wasnt it? they had the special flame that couldn't be put out by water that scientists today dont even know how to make or something. but what if it was a really fast boat that had no cannons only flame throwers and boarding tools.
@d4m0r3d Greek fire? Yeah I think they may have. Maybe not, I'm not sure we know when exactly that knowledge was lost. Ancient napalm was a thing though.
I wouldn't be against fire mechanics and flame throwers. Trying to fight while your ship is on fire sounds amazing.
They'd need to figure out how to make stuff like that work on the ships, but if it is possible it sounds like it'd be lots of fun.
@boxcar-squidy that would be awsome lol, the top of your ship is on fire and you gotta bucket water onto it. lol that would make combat so fun
