Jump limiter

  • I feel that jumping in this game needs to be looked at when it comes to pvp. It just seems to me that jumping around a ship like fleas when fighting is silly.

There should be a small limiter that decreases your speed when moving if the jump is spammed too often.

"git gud, free roam means free movement, separates good aim players from bad ones."

TBH, bunny hopping has made combat in most games just look ridiculous in general.

  • @mysticdragon297

Very good reason why some old real combat competitive FPS games had stamina that limited your ability to Sprint and Jump indefinitely.

  • @swimplatypus7 true, but my bunny skills keep me from getting hit by double gunners sooo, when the scales tip we can fix the issues then

  • @weststormborn

Hah, ya, there's that. I personally am taking a break till Feb 6th because the games just so buggy now. Loading times are borderline ridiculous now, and I got the SSD to improve thibgs, but the latest patch just broke too many things.

With any luck the game will develop both depth and balance... I mention depth because balance is nice, but it often takes place at the cost of depth because haste to "do things" on account of emotional outcry often ruins thibgs. This is the unfortunate pattern that modern people fall into regardless of the platform they're working.

  • Being a pirate is to be free. Don't limit anything in the life of a pirate, please.

  • Fully agree and have backed this suggestion before as well.

I also suggested they increase the bloom on the Flintlock and EoR, but also increase it even more while airborne.

    Sights Up: Spread Level 0
    Hipfire: Spread Level 1
Bunny Hopping + Sights Up: Spread Level 2
Bunny Hopping + Hipfire: Spread Level 3

Hipfire with a Eye of Reach automatically adds a Spread Level to any scenario, so 0|2|3|4.

  • SoT is a bunnyhopping dream game, why limit the parkour aspect of the game?

So much more advantage in bunnyhopping just as a general mode of transportation. Harder to hit. Easier to transition from boatdeck to rocks, for example, given all the terrain glitches.
I see pirates bunnyhopping around outpost with loot going to vendors.
I used to hate bunnyhopping myself, but if you can't beat them, you dont post for a nerf on the forums. You embrace it.
I've had to buy a new keyboard because my spacebar broke a spring. Losing the ability to bunnyhop was jarring. Configuring a new jump key was problematic.

No on the jump limiter, considering all the double gunners and aimbot skelly gun squads. A much maligned mechanism from other games, actually is a viable strategy, and an effective technique, in SoT.

  • horrible idea to limit it. Lets just nerf that too and make combat clunky. No thanks. You may think it looks ridiculous but it is an effective tactic. Learn it, use it and give your opponent a challenge.

  • I’ve wondered if having smaller hops while a weapon is drawn would limit the bunny hopping but not affect island adventure. The hops would be enough to clear only small rocks and small step ups. Increase weapon draw time and putting away by about 1 second making the player choose when he wants to run and jump or stay and fight.

This would not compound the gameplay with stamina management just make you choose the weaponless agile movement or slower armed defense movement.

  • @xxcaptmichaelxx The 'loaded' sword attack exhausts the player - why isn't jumping?

    Exhausting could increase as follows:

    • after two bounces the bouncers become smaller and smaller
    • Breathing becomes harder and harder
    • The heart beats louder and louder
    • the player must stop, breathing heavily

    At the same time:

    • with increasing difficulty of breathing the accuracy of the target decreases drastically
    • With increasing heartbeat the movements become slower and slower.
  • @enticed-malice Bunny hopping makes combat a joke. I can't believe you support it.

  • @weststormborn I'm with you, right now this is the only recourse to double guns.

i've supported it since it was first introduced in quake II back in 1998.

  • @xxcaptmichaelxx sure, if your sprint meter stops you from running from me so I can catch up to you and kill you.

But seriously, it's not impossible to kill people hopping around, hopping around leaves you sword defenseless.

  • @xxcaptmichaelxx Sea of Thieves isn't a serious competitive online shooter, it's a game where you can fire yourself out of a cannon and be sick all over people. Asking for a limit to the amount of jumping you can do in an adventure game is just completely absurd to me.

  • @foxdodge

SOT is a game of risk and reward. Every decision seems to involve some risk... why not the bunny hop?

I have to agree with this, i really don’t want to start an input debate.
But it’s extremely hard to strafe left and right effectively on a controller (A,D Spamming) so being able to utilise the jump to dodge is the only way I can stop my character becoming a basically static target lol

  • @enticed-malice
Might as well include the following along with Quake. Team Fortress 1(2), Unreal Tournament, and HL2 Deathmatch. Pretty much most high paced Pc shooters as well. I find that the majority of people I see complaining about bunny-hopping, is console players. Bunny hopping is a valid strategy in the Pc realm of Shooters.

  • @nabberwar yea i agree. I used quake II as they (iD software) pioneered the move with this title. Unreal tourny 99 was also great for bunny hopping. As of todays specs, quake champions stepped it up big time. The bunny hop mechanic is sooooo nice. Mix that in with instagib rail, its chaos, so beautiful.

  • @enticed-malice
Is it me or do console shooters just feel slow? I genuinely can't think of a fast paced fragger within the console realm of shooters. I can understand how bunny hopping can look, but when you already have fast lateral movement, and adding height can add another dimension of dodging, why not jump? I've played games where jumping is unreliable, but going prone was a thing, instead of jumping, they just did that.

People like being hard targets to hit, who knew?

  • @nabberwar My only guess why it might be console players is because you have to normally take your finger of your turning joystick to jump so you cannot effectively turn and shoot while jumping.

However you can remap the buttons in SoT so it is completely possible to be able to do it.

  • @knifelife
Agreed, however I don't understand the hatred that is directed towards hopping. Being a hard target to hit has always been a thing in FPS. Bunny hopping is just as valid as taking cover, crouching, or going prone.

i think console shooters are a bit slow, but mainly due to the primary input of sticks. But look at a lot of these console fps shooters in the COD world with their scuffs and what not. These players can snap on target with ease, it's quite amazing how well they play using sticks. I completely dislike black ops 4, but I see some of these players on console tearing it up. Don't get me wrong, im sure aim assist is STRONG, but still. Even on console, blops4 seems pretty quick. Bunny hopping in cod obviously sucks though lol
