Micro Freeze/Stutter issue?

  • Just trying to see if anyone has this issue or has been able to find a fix. I just recently purchases the game for PC and seem to hit this massive half second to full second screen freeze and then basically I'm thrown to whatever direction was heading. It has happened on outposts, islands, sea doesnt seem to be a specific area at all, its randomly happening everywhere. It'll be fine for a few minutes and then bam it happens.

I submitted a report, but in the meantime I figured I would reach out to the community to see if anyone has any suggestion or if its just the game itself. I tried re-installing the game as well and doesn't appear it made any difference. I updated drivers on the graphics card, and moved game to an SSD. Frames on highest settings are usually around 120 plus, dropping to around 80-90 in outposts. When the Micro freeze happens seems like FPS takes a dive and latency spikes a bit. That doesn't happen every time, but I've noticed a couple occasions.

My specs in case anyone is wondering: Windows 10 Home 64-bit,Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~4.0GHz, Memory: 16384MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

Sorry in advance if I'm not suppose to post this here.

Sounds like server lag more than likely - I've had that in a few sessions lately. There doesn't seem to be anything in your specs that would make me think it's your set up, but you could try turning off Nvidia Shadowplay and Xbox Game Bar's recording and see if that helps.

  • @realstyli Thanks so much for the reply. I took a look and I have both of those off currently. Def was worth a look though so I appreciate it. Could it be some kind of rendering issue by chance? I also have a feeling it is some kind of latency issue of some kind, It's just rough not knowing for sure obviously.
I was just playing and it was doing it still where I was running to the boat, 1 second freeze and bam it went back to normal but I was in the water. I feel like I've tried nearly everything I can that is at least within my control, but obviously can't be certain. Thanks for suggesting something though, I appreciate it.

It's hard to know but you've a higher spec machine than mine so I'd be surprised if it had problems running it well. The framerate-drops around outposts and some islands is to do with optimisation and, as far as I can tell, it's quite common. The actual stuttering/extended frame drops though is not normal.

Run a network test in the Xbox App to see if there are any issues there that might indicate connection problems. Or at least rule them out.

If you can, try teaming up with someone and seeing if they get the micro stutters at the same time. That's how I figured in my case it was server issues - my buddy got the same small lags. It wasn't in every session mind, but when it happened it did happen frequently enough to be quite annoying.

That said, I've been too busy to play much since this week's update dropped so it's entirely possible it introduced some local performance issues I'm unaware of yet.

  • Wouldn't be surprised if it happens when passing by other players, thus be due to connectivity because of cross-platform : there are way more xbox than pc players in this game.
