It's just what it says. I can't seem to get anywhere, or complete any voyages without getting attacked by at least 3 of the random encounters mentioned in the subject heading. These aren't flukes either. I have recently been getting back into the game, or at least trying to, and have also been playing a lot with my brother, who just got the game himself, and we have been having this same problem come up every time we play.
The last time we played together, which was 12/31/18, while trying to complete our very first voyage of the day, we got attacked by no less than 7 ghost ships, 4 Megalodons, and a Kraken. We survived it all, until the Kraken.
The rate of these encounters needs to be lowered significantly. The game has become nigh unplayable. Especially for Solo Sloop players.
I have the perfect example of this. Just now, (1/4/19) I went to do a level 35, 2 island gold hoarders voyage in a Sloop sailing solo. Here was my experience.
I spawned at Plunder Outpost. The islands for this voyage were Crooks Hollow and Snake Island. Literally adjacent to Plunder Outpost.
I was attacked by a Megalodon right out of the gate, before I could even make it to Crooks Hollow. It bit my boat twice before I could leave its territory. After patching and bailing, I made it to Crooks Hollow. On the Island, so many skeletons spawned that I left the Island with the 1 measly Seafarer's Chest from the voyage, and 11 barrels of gunpowder. That's how many skeletons spawned on just that Island alone; and I even detonated 3 of them rather than killing them and taking their barrels like the ones before them. Mind you, this all happened before setting sail for Snake Island.
But don't worry, it gets way better.
On the way to Snake Island, a Ghost Ship popped up out of the water and attacked me. I managed to sail close enough to another player's ship, so as to get the Ghost Ship to switch it's aggro from me to that other poor b******d.
I then patched and bailed my boat, and turned back around to head back up towards Snake Island.
Upon nearing Snake Island, another Ghost Ship pops up out of the water and attacks. In disbelief, I look around, and sure enough, the first Ghost Ship is still hammering Poor B*****d off in the distance. To my dismay, this is definitely a second Ghost Ship.
I fight it for at least 30 min until it ran into some rocks, wedging itself. It then did the "broken physics dance" flipped upside down, rocketed into the air, and then dipped beneath the waves and despawned.
I then used the last of my wood, and patched all but one hole in my boat; but the last hole was high up on the stern and barely leaked, so I figured I'd just sail to Snake Island, hope off my boat, find some planks on the island, then run back and patch it there.
So I turn to Snake Island for the third time, hoping this BS is finally over. I'm about 100 yards out from the beach, when the water turns black... That's right, a Kraken attacks me. Last I knew, they weren't even supposed to spawn on Sloops, so I check my surroundings, but no other players are anywhere in sight. (Poor B*****d got sunk by my first Ghost Ship.)
So here we are, just me and freakin Kraken. So of course, it immediately sucks me up off my boat, and holds me underwater. After I get drowned to about half life, I manage to cut it enough for it to let me go. I swim up to try to locate my boat, only to find that the Kraken has now released my boat, and it is careening straight towards Snake Island; sails fully billowed and catching fantastic wind.
So I swim like a madman for Ink-less waters, hoping to catch a mermaid back before it runs into Snake Island.
I arrive on my ship just in time for it to succumb to flooding. Slow Clap.
So after I respawn on my new outpost, (Ancient Spire). I sit motionless at my computer desk, just trying to wrap my head around what has just transpired. I'm angry and frustrated, and I'm attempting to decide if I'm going to try-yet again. After about 10 seconds, I breath out an angry sigh and decide I've had enough "Fun and Engaging Gameplay" for one day. So I let out an exasperated line of profanity- something about making love to the excrement that was this gaming experience, and quit to desktop.
So, please; Fix it Felixbeard. Wreck it Ralphbeard has obviously been having fun with your "random" encounter settings.
