Too many attacks by Kraken, Ghost ships, and Megalodon. And Skeleton spawn rates are way too high.

  • It's just what it says. I can't seem to get anywhere, or complete any voyages without getting attacked by at least 3 of the random encounters mentioned in the subject heading. These aren't flukes either. I have recently been getting back into the game, or at least trying to, and have also been playing a lot with my brother, who just got the game himself, and we have been having this same problem come up every time we play.

The last time we played together, which was 12/31/18, while trying to complete our very first voyage of the day, we got attacked by no less than 7 ghost ships, 4 Megalodons, and a Kraken. We survived it all, until the Kraken.

The rate of these encounters needs to be lowered significantly. The game has become nigh unplayable. Especially for Solo Sloop players.

I have the perfect example of this. Just now, (1/4/19) I went to do a level 35, 2 island gold hoarders voyage in a Sloop sailing solo. Here was my experience.

I spawned at Plunder Outpost. The islands for this voyage were Crooks Hollow and Snake Island. Literally adjacent to Plunder Outpost.

I was attacked by a Megalodon right out of the gate, before I could even make it to Crooks Hollow. It bit my boat twice before I could leave its territory. After patching and bailing, I made it to Crooks Hollow. On the Island, so many skeletons spawned that I left the Island with the 1 measly Seafarer's Chest from the voyage, and 11 barrels of gunpowder. That's how many skeletons spawned on just that Island alone; and I even detonated 3 of them rather than killing them and taking their barrels like the ones before them. Mind you, this all happened before setting sail for Snake Island.

But don't worry, it gets way better.

On the way to Snake Island, a Ghost Ship popped up out of the water and attacked me. I managed to sail close enough to another player's ship, so as to get the Ghost Ship to switch it's aggro from me to that other poor b******d.

I then patched and bailed my boat, and turned back around to head back up towards Snake Island.

Upon nearing Snake Island, another Ghost Ship pops up out of the water and attacks. In disbelief, I look around, and sure enough, the first Ghost Ship is still hammering Poor B*****d off in the distance. To my dismay, this is definitely a second Ghost Ship.

I fight it for at least 30 min until it ran into some rocks, wedging itself. It then did the "broken physics dance" flipped upside down, rocketed into the air, and then dipped beneath the waves and despawned.

I then used the last of my wood, and patched all but one hole in my boat; but the last hole was high up on the stern and barely leaked, so I figured I'd just sail to Snake Island, hope off my boat, find some planks on the island, then run back and patch it there.

So I turn to Snake Island for the third time, hoping this BS is finally over. I'm about 100 yards out from the beach, when the water turns black... That's right, a Kraken attacks me. Last I knew, they weren't even supposed to spawn on Sloops, so I check my surroundings, but no other players are anywhere in sight. (Poor B*****d got sunk by my first Ghost Ship.)

So here we are, just me and freakin Kraken. So of course, it immediately sucks me up off my boat, and holds me underwater. After I get drowned to about half life, I manage to cut it enough for it to let me go. I swim up to try to locate my boat, only to find that the Kraken has now released my boat, and it is careening straight towards Snake Island; sails fully billowed and catching fantastic wind.

So I swim like a madman for Ink-less waters, hoping to catch a mermaid back before it runs into Snake Island.

I arrive on my ship just in time for it to succumb to flooding. Slow Clap.

So after I respawn on my new outpost, (Ancient Spire). I sit motionless at my computer desk, just trying to wrap my head around what has just transpired. I'm angry and frustrated, and I'm attempting to decide if I'm going to try-yet again. After about 10 seconds, I breath out an angry sigh and decide I've had enough "Fun and Engaging Gameplay" for one day. So I let out an exasperated line of profanity- something about making love to the excrement that was this gaming experience, and quit to desktop.

So, please; Fix it Felixbeard. Wreck it Ralphbeard has obviously been having fun with your "random" encounter settings.

  • Why?! Why is everyone complaining about being attacked all the time and I'm just here in my Galleon waiting to be attacked by Skeleton Boats Sharks and Tentacle monsters to get my commendations up :-(

I say it's just not fair that you get to have all of the fun and I'm left out :-(

  • Forced PVE spawns are just, annoying.
I belive they should roam around instead of simply spawning on player entities.

  • The cursed ships, kraken, and megolodons I can deal with as they are easy to sort out:

Cursed ships - make sure you are well stocked on supplies.
Kraken - If you are on a sloop, you need a rowboat.
Megolodons - Just sail to the nearest island and it will leave for a time.

The skeleton spawn rates, however, I agree with. My wife and I tried to do a skeleton bounty on Crescent Isle. Much harder to do when you have the island skeletons spawning with sniper rifles and blunderbusses two and three at a time as well as the bounty skeletons.

  • @x-n7-117-x I've got some really bad news for you... If you ever reach Pirate legend status, skeletons will spawn all the time on Athena's bounty voyages and they will have three times the normal HP.

I think most ppl who are complaining, are ppl who plays Solo (i include myself here). Seems like it is spawning like crazy against solo/sloops while at a small rate against bigger ships.

It is really really rare i finish one voyage without being attacked by 1 or more random encouters. I barelly find another player's ship, all the time are skelleons (that when they aren't spawning at my side) or Megalodons (Kraken is aa little rarier, but spawns many too).

  • @solell Can I sail with you? I don't get attacked by anything lol. I want those commendations god dang it!

  • @hynieth

It's fun when that's what you're looking for, I agree. When you're just trying to do a quest though and you have to avoid them? That's annoying.

I actually am the OP's brother, and a few nights ago we started at ancient spire and went east, found a Meg (nbd), then a ghost ship no more than 60 seconds later. We fought the ship for fun, but then got attacked by a galleon. We fought them for awhile but unfortunately couldn't handle both since we we had spent all our special balls, and the galleon kept sending people to board. They sunk us after like 15 minutes of fighting.

We respawned and decided to just keep doing our quests. Over the next 3 or so hours, literally every other island we went to we had a ghost ship spawn. We had no mats, so it was just us trying to get deal with them while also completing the quests.

We finally completed one and got away with only 15 cannon balls or so and no joke 8 boards. On our way to the Outpost, 2 islands over, we got hit by a kraken and couldn't fight it off because of no planks.

Again, if you are purposely looking for a fight, then that's fine. If you're 2 people on a Brigadine just trying to do chill and do some quests, it pretty insane how many things spawn. We essentially lost 3.5 hours of play time to the spawn rates, though I suppose we should've just left the server and remade.

  • If you don't want to fight a:
    kraken - keep your sails at full billow directly into the wind;
    megalodon - sail to an island;
skeleton ship - use cursed cannonballs (anchorballs work best).

All of these are great methods of escape that work for me when I'm not in the mood to fight.

  • @xcalypt0x feel free, though you may come to regret it once we get attacked by two ghost ships and a megalodon at the same time. Because that happened to me and my brother also.

  • Sounds like a lot of fun to me!

  • @solell I will agree that the attacks are frequent. I just came back into the game before Christmas and I already have the the Legendary Kraken Hunter accommodation. I run solo sloop a lot and with my son at times. What frustrates me the most is if I am engaged with the Kraken or a skeleton ship I end up getting the Meg too.
A couple of nights ago we encountered a Skelly ship. We took him out, as we were getting our loot from the ship the Meg showed up, took her out. Before we could get the loot out of the water for the Meg a second Skelly ship spawns in. By this time we we finished no supplies and we were sunk.

  • I get it; yesterday I got hit with the Meg and a skelly ship spawning at the same time 3 different times! First time it was the Meg circling my boat as I made for an island only to have a skelly ship emerge and beat me down. Second time the skelly ship spawned first, the Meg showed up less than a minute later. Third time was the worst; sailing to an outpost trying to outrun a storm to cash in. Meg shows up then the skelly ship comes up from the deep. So I'm now fighting a skelly ship, a Meg AND battling a storm at the same time! I get that they're "random encounters" but all 3?!? Yea; that's a little much for a solo sloop....

  • I just got attacked by a skeleton ship, the kraken and a purple megaladon at the same time. I had the best loot too.... please fix this.io
