How I think pets should be implemented into the game

  • We all know that pets are coming, we just don't know yet how they will be added. I have 2 ideas of how it should be implemented.

    1. My first idea is that they should be 100% cosmetic, meaning that when you start the game, you will not have a pet but you may buy one at a pet shop on one of the outposts, I think this is a good idea because it doesn't affect the game too drastically and still keeps the game fair. The pets would just walk/fly around your ship and keep you company
    2. My second idea is that pets may assist you in certain tasks, eg. a cat will bring you back items from an island and store them on your ship for you or a parrot will fly around and report back whether he sees a ship or not. However, if it was introduced this way, ever player would have to start off with a pet to keep it balanced, but you would be able to buy new looks for you pet (like weapons)

Personally, I prefer the first idea as it would mean buying a pet is more special and it would keep the game fairly the same.
Please tell me what you think by posting on this thread. Thanks

  • I think pets should be unlocked also instead of straight up purchase, nothing too crazy though.

  • If pets do anything other than hang around, then you are advocating for pay to win mechanics to be added as pets are supposedly obtained through microtransaction only.

  • @d3adst1ck Rumor has it that Rare is also looking to implement some pets that are obtained through in game activities. I'd imagine that they'd let us get a basic monkey, parrot, or cat but if we wanted to have one in a pirate hat or something unique we'd have to purchase them with real money. Nothing is confirmed but I think this is the most likely option. If not at the start, down the road. People will still pay for the "dolled up" pets because they look different and want to be unique.
