Suggestions sea monster rewards and megaladon mechanics

  • So i had a talk with someone that i played with today and i suggested a couple of things one of them was adding a special material to sea monsters (kraken, megladon) that you can gather and craft cosmetics with since the game is cosmetic driven other thing is the megladon mechanics it's really bland all it does is circle around you and maybe bite every once in a while so the mechanics that i was thinking about maybe a tail-whip i thought would be good and also since it has such a large fin it can probably put the ship on it's head and take the players on a real nice mega-ride maybe after that the ship would flip at a certain timing and everyone has to get off the ship and then back on when it turns back around, I only posted this since i heard that most things in the community are heard out from the same person I talked to now i've only been playing for a couple of days so these are just wild ideas, To add more to the kraken and megladon special "material" i'm only saying this because there is no reason to kill them other than the chests you're gonna be in the water a megaladon pops up then ur just like oh should i kill it or not for the chests I want there to be more purpose to the sea monsters like I want to have a solid REASON to go hunting for them like i wanna log in and go ok I really like this megaladon cosmetic i need to kill a couple more and then i complete the set (all that's said also applies to the kraken)

For crafting, I sincerely hope Sea of Thieves never falls into that spiral by implementing that system wrong, or at all.

You never kill the megalodons or the Kraken, and I doubt you would have a good time harvesting or storing skin from them, be they dead or alive.

Those megalodon attacks are good, although I can't see a ship realistically being flipped without capsizing and sinking instantly, which would ruin the encounter.

  • @ultmateragnarok ok let me rephrase that when i said "skin" i just meant kind of like how chests float up a piece of skin or something maybe teeth would fall that's what i'm saying and it would be 1 material for each monster it's not like you're gonna have 3 seperate materials or something for seperate pieces of cloth just 1 simple piece of material and if they do it right it won't be too much of a grind just something to get you motivated to hunt these monsters maybe change the type of cosmetics every once in a while to get people back on wanting the materials etc and about flipping the ship yeah you're right flipping it might be too much but i still think the moves should be there maybe it opens up a unique hole that needs 2 wood planks or something

Another type of damage would be good, and I suppose you could have something like a Kraken suction cup or a megalodon tooth float up along with their treasure. Maybe selling that to a shipwright or shopkeep and they would give you special cosmetics.

  • @ultmateragnarok Oh since you brought up selling them, then they could like make a special currency for each one? don't you think that'd be good each time you sell a tooh it gives you the "special currency" for the monster instead of crafting and u can just buy cosmetics with that instead of crafting

  • @zenosynem

I think maybe giving gold would work if it just had a commendation set unlocked by selling them to different shopkeeps. It wouldn't even need gold, except to stay useful after unlocking the commendations.

  • @ultmateragnarok Correct me if i'm wrong but i think what you're saying is that youcan buy the items with gold after completing a commendation right? if that's the case then it kills the idea of wanting to hunt them once you finish the commendations you will feel like they're pointless again which is why i suggested that the cosmetics could possibly be changed every once in a while so i'd say you can buy it with gold and with whatever "material" that floats up from the sea monster that you kill whether it be a kraken or a megaladon
So to put this into example let's say you want a megaladon jacket it would cost for an example 20k gold and 2 "material" the material being whatever extra drop that the sea monsters drop that's just an example though

  • @zenosynem

Well it's the easiest and least memory consuming way to do it. With a material you would basically need a new type of currency and pickup system, but with a commendation you would need a single menu and a chest reskin with some values changed. That way would still work though. It also wouldn't need to cost gold, maybe you go there and give the shopkeep some of those materials and they make it for you.

  • @ultmateragnarok I can honestly see it working both ways i think it's a decent idea for more content to the game because tbh whenever i get a meg i'm like oh this again I already have the titles and the blue currency from them I don't see any reason to do them rather than just doing your voyage or whatever you wanna do i just really wanna see something more to the sea monsters than a couple of items that you can sell for gold

  • @zenosynem

Well if you ignore them they will give up, but they are still better than just an empty sea.
