Xbox app on pc

  • This might be a tough question to answer without any real in depth specifics. I wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem as me or have a solution.

I like to play on my PC vs xbox, but when I am in a party chat on the xbox app it disconnects me after various amounts of time. It will show me still in the party but disconnected. I will have been playing and talking just fine but then it just randomly disconnects. Anyone have any similar problem with the PC xbox app?

  • @featuringturtle This has been a constant problem with the xbox app on PC. The issue stems from the networking side of the application.

Systems are switching over to IPv6 and most PC systems, Modems, and routers and still defaulted to IPv4. IPv6 should be available but usually is either disabled or something else. I've gotten it to work to some degree but honestly I could have just been lucky with the stars aligning while someone was sacrificing a goat somewhere.

The xbox app uses IPv6 addressing for the party system. Something with teredo and blah blah blah.

You can usually get it to work if you join someone else party first and then take control of the party.

You might be okay with just turning on IPv6 in the settings for the router you are using. Might have to do some other stuff to make sure teredo is set up correctly.

THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you try to do anything with teredo, make sure to READ EVERYTHING FIRST. THEN READ IT AGAIN. Then follow the directions EXACTLY. Do not assume anything, if it says do not do something then do not do it. Do not skip steps.

    Hope that helps

  • Overall, the Xboxapp on PC is broken. - It works when it wants to basically on some machines.

  • @xultanis-dragon I'll give it a look when I get home from work. It's just so frustrating that i cant play on my kick booty PC because it cant stay connected to the party chat.

  • Have you checked the Network section of the Xbox app settings? That will run a basic network test, make sure your "NAT type" shows as "open" and "Server connectivity" as "connected". If not, that might be an issue.

Something else worth checking: open Windows 10 settings, go to Apps, find Xbox in the list, click it, select "Advanced options". Under App Permissions, make sure "Background apps" is set to "on". My party chat was crashing frequently until I discovered this setting and it has been (mostly) smooth sailing ever since.

    Hope that helps!

  • The xbox App has always been a clunky pile of rubbish and my advice would be to use it as little as possible! use Discord were you can for communication and just fight with the app when setting up a crew....
