I am running at 30fps, with ok graphics, which is fine. (can run pretty good graphics with 70fps on most other games tho)
But the ping is between 70, which is fine, and 1500. Often the ping is between 200 and 250. (causes weird teleportations of my character sometimes tho) Not lagging in any other game. (usually 20ping in other games)
Respawning when in a battle with another ship, at a skeleton fort or against meg takes way longer then normal.
Yup, my entire crew has been experiencing ping spikes for a while now (roughly started with the most recent patch). Ping jumps from 70ms to up to 300ms for a couple of seconds before everything calms down again. We've been unable to identify any pattern of things that may cause these spikes, they seem to appear completely random.
Nothing we can do about this right now, other than waiting for a patch.
It's the biggest problem with SoT right now. The latency and the server quality is a big point they need to solve soon. I hope Rare is planning something about it for the future.
This kind of issue is bad not only because of lag, but also because it creates a lot of desync problems that directly affect gameplay and cause the annoying bugs and glitches most of us experience everyday such as not being able to grab washed items, appear as a skeleton, can't use rowboat etc...
Additionally, if SoT wants to find a small place in the competitive scene with Arena, it will definitely NEED to solve the ping issues. While most players here are closing their eyes on this, I bet that new players who will get in for the competitive side of Arena won't.
This is nothing due to hardware or quality of your connection : this game's servers are low quality, I got 70 ping at best which is bad and I can join servers with 90 ping : I'm european but looks like I'm playing on russian servers.
There are also frequent lag spikes, probably due to people joining/leaving a server, as probably cheating their way into the game, if not mere unstability of servers.
