fishing, crafting, and other long term or idle items.

  • Hello Everyone,

I really enjoy the changes that have came so far with SoT. I'm requesting some way to spread the gameplay over multiple sessions aside from cosmetics. The cursed cannonballs are a nice touch in being able to put some versatility to the gameplay. In addition, I recently have taken some of the new merchant missions and found that they are really neat in regards to how it makes them a bit less monotonous. I want to hit on some ways that would increase my SoT quality of life and would make it more enjoyable to stick around for days / months on end.

Fishing in general is an amazing idle / mini-game that I know how much the developers want the community to be friendly and work together. Fishing crews or fishing spots could make the game more social and encourage gamers to talk / fish together. This could be further encouraged by fishing nets between ships where they have to work together to haul in a school. Different methods of fishing could be as follows for versatility:

    • Fishing pole
    • Harpoon (also useful for Kraken, sharks, and Megaladon.)
    • Fishing net (imagine a fishing net accidentally catching a Megaladon and pulling the ships together)

    Things you could fish for/up:

    • Treasure
    • Trash
    • Supplies
    • Bait
    • Monsters
    • Etc.

Crafting overall seems like a huge missed opportunity at this time. Mostly due to the ability to make it so hunting on islands for little items that can turn into something bigger past the individual session or even in the singular session is such a momentous thing for developers and players to really make the islands come to life.

Crafting opportunities and items could include:

    • Bait (bananas, bread, smaller fish / chum)
    • Traps (for boat, islands, treasure( miniature bombs, pitfalls, swinging logs)) items rope, sharpened sticks & blackpowder
    • Improved items ( better planks, better tools)
    • tnt barrels (black powder, rope, barrel) make barrels respawn after certain time.
    • Cursed cannonballs (different types of skulls and cannonballs)
    • etc.

I think this could give a lot of versatility and depth to some of your items and could make the player think more carefully of whether they want to sell or hoard their collection for crafting better items to get more stuff.

An avid lover of your game

  • This idea sounds fantastic. I could see Rare not implementing a crafting system earlier, but with the new inventory system I think crafting and fishing could be plausible in SOT. I just want them to also make it so that inventors will transfer between servers so that we dont have to craft the same items over and over again. Also maybe a craftable rowboat, 100 wooden planks maybe?

  • Hello @ANoxiousOrange and welcome to the forums! Fishing is something that many, if not most pirates want to come sooner than later to the Sea of Thieves. Cooking and crafting are also popular requests made.

I have a post I made on the subject that I will share with you:

You will find a long list of ideas inspired from the community here:

Happy sailing and Merry Pirate Christmas!

Thank you so much for this! Cooking is a nice addition too. I was reading recently about the original unity version of the game which entailed I believe some form of cooking which from what I read had the accidental consequence of sometimes setting the boats on fire. Overall, I'm praying for these kind of quality of life changes.
