Skeleton Ship loot idea: Cursed Cannonball Crate

  • An idea taken from (Edit: Multiple sources, but read here https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/76032/cursed-cannonball-crate), a nice addition to Skeleton Fleet battle rewards would be a crate used to hold Cursed Cannonballs! More importantly, it comes stocked with 20 Cursed Cannonballs, which can be taken and added freely. However, it can only be sold when full, but when it is, it is worth a sizable sum of money when turned in to the Merchant Alliance!

    Your thoughts?

  • Well i have thought about how good it would be for skellieships to drop fully stocked banana, wood or cannonball crates was in a while.
As an small addition to the lootdrop.

  • @reapinglegion I agree! This could potentially be the 'stronghold/skeleton captain' version of that loot, buffing it up like the Mega Keg does.

  • @txcrnr I like the idea of a cursed cannonball crate. I don't think it should come with any in though (maybe 1 or 2 like you'd find in a random barrel).

Would at least make it worth hording CCs to sell at the end of a session rather than just logging off and wasting them.

  • I love the idea, except I don't think it should come with many CCBs in it. Stocking it through a voyage would be awesome and a great way to stop the CCBs from all going to waste at the end of a voyage - currently we usually place them all in a single barrel at the outpost we end at, I dream of some lucky pirate's delight in discovering 20+ CCBs in a single barrel.

  • @salvasian-au Well I was thinking it would be a reward from defeating the last ship of skeleton fleets, which already require you to stock up. It would generally not be very useful to have a crate that comes with none as you can already carry as many as you want in your inventory, and requiring players to fill an item they recieve from a hard battle would be kind of insulting.

Perhaps unstocked ones could be found rarely, with stocked ones only coming from the final ship in a Skeleton Fleet?

  • @luciansanchez82 But it would only come stocked as a reward for defeating Skeleton Fleets. It would be kind of insulting to players to recieve an item from a Skeleton Fleet Captain that they have to farm/grind barrels to be able to sell.

  • @txcrnr True, it would be one hell of a reward though. The amount of mischief I could get up to with 20 CCBs, normally I have to go to a number of islands to find that many. Actually having them stocked in a crate could be a great idea, it would really create an incentive to fight the skeleton fleets. Unfortunately this is something I usually don't want to do these days, I fought too many of them during the event that unfortunately took a lot of the fun out of them. I love fighting the solo ships though... weird.

  • that woud brake the wanda story bc it says in her jornaly in her alchmy lab that the trading companys was agence the idea of curse cannonballs and refused to sell them

and thats y she got all grumpy and wanted to destroy the outposts

  • @salvasian-au I getcha, maybe something like 10 CCBs? It just comes down to a balance between being able to hold a lot of CCBs and still being able to turn it in when you get it. Maybe 2 of each type?

I see your point. But you do already get quite a sizeable reward for beating skelly battles (four captains chests and four captains skulls add up to a lot of gold). The incentive to this reward is that you now have the option to sell your left over cursed cannonballs rather than just let them vanish when you log off.

Also don't forget, the other crates need to be filled with scavenged resources before they can be handed in. So it makes sense from that point of view for them to not be full when you get them.

  • @luciansanchez82 Yes, but at the same time, the empty crates are never rewards from events :P Rare would just need to find a proper way to balance it. I like having items that you can choose to use or sell, having that option is great.

  • @txcrnr

I really like this idea, it always strikes me as such a waste when i have an inventory full of cursed cannonballs at the end of a voyage. To have a crate, a very rare drop, would be awesome, bit like the skellie equivalent of the Box of Wondrous Secrets.

  • Not only was it not my idea, I don't even particularly like it

  • @txcrnr Yeah you @ the wrong person. It was I that suggested this as a reply to What could Rare have to change to make you want to do Skelly Fleets. The idea of the CCB create wasn't even My idea and came from a completely different user's post called Curse Cannonball Create. I'm glad to see you liked the suggestion so much you dedicated a Topic to it. So if you could kindly update your post with the correct information i would appreciate it.

  • Fun idea but goes against the lore of the cursed cannon balls. In the event Warsmith was trying to sale the balls but everyone was pretty much going against her. So if we could sale them to the merchants then it would make a big hole. Now if they added a npc that was "evil" that you could trade them for would be cool but he wouldn't be allowed on outpost you would have to find him on random islands.

The other point about holding more cursed balls is also kinda pointless. You can store tons of balls now with the inventory v2 and on person. So having another place to store them would be pointless.

Edit: Something I just thought about, you could be selling them for them to destroy the balls to get rid of them from the world. Maybe a new NPC that wants you to find the balls to cleanse the curse from the world. You trade in ~10 balls and he gives you a voucher to trade into any of the 3 orders you would like, like the Cursed Mermaid Gems.

  • @reedski Whoops! Sorry about that. I was reading the name BELOW the post, not above- my mistake

  • @monkeybee11 Refused to sell them, but the OoS might still buy them. They buy cursed skulls already :P

  • @txcrnr I would love to see this added, and uh thanks for linking my thread btw!
