Skeleton Ship encounters not dropping Captain Skulls

  • My crewmate and I took down two skeleton ships on a sloop since the holiday update, and neither one dropped a captain's skull. I'm not sure if they're supposed to have a 100% drop rate or not, but I was under that impression.

    Ahoy matey!

Well done for defeating those skellies but the emergent vessels don't have a 100% drop rate of Skeleton Captain's Skull and Chest. However the captain ship in the last wave of the Skeleton Ship Cloud has always 4 skulls and 4 chests! You may also find them sometimes by killing Megs and Krakens, these lovely beasts eat everything nowadays! :)

  • @skulliah Alright, good to know. Thanks for the reply!

  • @skulliah Unfortunatley I am going to have to disagree. My crew took on a Skeleton Ship Cloud. We got 2 boxes of tea and a regular chest off the first wave and got nothing from the final wave. That's right nothing came up, no loot for all that work.

it does come up. At last wave make sure to sink captain ship last of the 2 or u might lose all loot since u focussed on the 2nd ship.

Also when it goes under drop a crewmate to follow the sinking ship. From time 2 time it drifts away before despawning and spawning the loot. This drift can be INSANE. we anchered next to sinking skelly ship and it drifted away so far it turned into a 4 minute swim from the ship to where the loot is.

  • I smashed 4 Skeleton Ships that spawned right next to me yesterday and none of them dropped any loot.

In all cases, I checked the drift and the used the Crow's Nest to see if there was any glint in the water.

In one case I did encounter some washed up loot on a nearby island a couple of minutes later, but I have a feeling it was more of a random occasion.

  • @shad0wstrife We had this same thought a long time ago, however we revied our footage from the fight and noticed we took the captains ship down a long while before the final one. See it's the captains ship that drops the special loot. So if you kill that one first and leave the normal ship for last chances are you'll not see the special loot, it has probably been lost a while ago.

    Small edit:

For the roaming ships I've found this:

    • Roaming ships that just roam around bothering no-one drop some loot but often nothing special.
    • Roaming ships that spawn on you (big horn sounding and be prepared to fight it because it's hostile) drop at least either a skeleton captains chest and/or skull (I've seen both spawn only skull and only chest).
