Suspicious exploits/glitches

  • So I wanted to bring this topic up from the grave, because I've now run into 2 people definitely either exploiting the game or doing some kind of glitch. The first person I witnessed was teleporting long distances which could just be lag, but you would really have to convince me of that, especially when he would move great distances. The second instance was a sloop that would not sink no matter what. We killed the crew kept shooting it and even ballast balled it, but to no avail, the ship stayed afloat and simply wouldn't sink.

So I'm not going to jump the gun and say this was hacking, possibly these are examples of exploits and glitches and I'm ultimately curious if anyone else has encountered suspicious behavior or weird instances such as these.

I've encountered an unsinkable sloop on more than one occasion. Your best choice of action is to gather as much information as possible and submit a report to Rare. It's probably just a glitch, though.

  • @celaw You can bail water on the stairs leading to the bottom level. Basically you can stand halfway down the stairs and if you have good enough aim, turn throw it out the window without changing position. 5 bails 1 repair, rise repeat. Having done this waiting for a crew mate to re-spawn many times allows you to make your sloop seem unsinkable. I think a lot comes down to the player skill in this case.

  • @celaw Not sure about the teleporting pirate as i would need to see a recording of this. It could just be lag.

As far as the unsinkable sloop, i wouldn't call that a glitch, what had most likely happened was the sloop in shallow water keeping the sloop deck from sink past the water line. In order to correct this you would have to sail the sloop off tye shallow as the water will not rise past the sloops deadline if it remians above the waterline which is why ships hole do not leak water if they are above the waterline. It's a matter of Physics.

The best thing to do in these instances is to contact Support including as much detail as you can around locations, times of the incidents. That way you can pass it along to Rare who can actually look at the data and determine if anything strange was happening.

Any discussion on the forums is mostly going to be speculation and opinion, having said that I've seen a good many pirates pinging about all over the place due to lag.

Just as a reminder in the topic for any new pirates -

I'm not sure if the OP had the same experience as I have had, but everytime I encounter this is on open water. The water fills up to the map table, makes that dreadful sinking sound, but just won't sink. I made a report to support, but nothing ever came out of it to my knowledge.

Sloops a small target, maybe you kept hitting the same spot, not hard to deal with one - 2 holes. Just yesterday I sank a sloop that my team was unloading on, the guys were keeping it afloat. I jumped over and killed them, they sank.

  • I think people underestimates sloops simply because they have less cannons. Sloops are extremely tenacious, by means of bailing and recoverablility. A fully scuttled sloop can be bailed down to wood by two people in a short time. One person can at the very least sustain heavy damage til a partner can arrive.

To my knowledge Ballast-Ball has diminishing returns when the boat is smaller. Their is a smaller number of holes that effect a sloop, usually these are around the map and voyage table.

The teleporting could be simple lag, I see people hop around every once in a while. Could be a player playing from overseas with friends. Usually its safe to assume glitch/bug, good player, or lag for most issues on the Seas. Cheaters aren't as remotely as an issue some claim it to be.

  • @Celaw To start, I am not discounting what you experienced. I have however seen my primary sailing mate, who is on XBox, glide down a beach/dock/ship without moving his legs, pause, and "teleport" to a further location. During those times, he is experiencing horrible lag. To the point of it being nearly unplayable for him. @Captn-Crushem makes a good point about bailing and repairing. I do almost the exact same thing. I have found that even if a sloop is filled with holes, a single player focusing only on bailing can keep the sloop afloat until the second sailor returns from the ferry of the damned and helps patch. The only thing to do against a crew that works well towards patching & bailing is to do what @zormis did. Board and stop them from repairing. This may be an explanation for what you were experiencing. It may not. I would suggest that you open a support ticket and try to capture as much information as you can when you see it happen, as @KattTruewalker stated.

  • @celaw Okay I did the entombed part of the seabound soul tall tale and when sir arthur pendragon opened the door I went to go find the last journal, when I came back he was gone and the door was closed. I tried sailing away then going back to the island and even sank my ship to get far away, but it doesn't register me being at flintlock and he still isn't there. I might have to restart the tall tale just to get him to open the door again

  • @celaw Is their ship was stuck on shallow waters?
I have to ask that because so then thats the reason for example one of the forts have a bay that you can bring your ship inside and no matter how many holes they will have they wont sink.
So try to remember and about the distance well maybe you had bad connection that day or the server but i think you can tell the diffrence between a long lag or hacking.

  • It's easy to bail and repair a sloop. To prevent this from occurring, either:

    1. fire cannonballs/CCBs at the holes/windows, or
    2. board their ship and guard the holes as they respawn.
  • Make sure you have a video otherwise they will not get banned
