I will Draw your Chest Ideas! (Add yours!)

  • Ahoy and welcome all to the Chest Concept Bonanza! This is a place where you can share your chest ideas and have them brought to life by yours truly! So don't be shy, let me see what you got!

    Chest of the Crimson Bull

    BullChest

"Chest from the mighty Red Armada's treasury, dropped from one of the legendary ships that have invaded the Sea of Thieves. This chest is the mark of a true Sea of Thieves pirate."

This is a chest from the amazing Red Crusade DLC proposal by the talented Aperture011. This DLC would add an immense invasion event I can't possibly explain here. I highly suggest you check out his idea at The Red Crusade

    Designed for @Aperture011

    Chest of Endless Feasts

    BananaChest

"What respectable pirate doesn't love bananas? This chest is full o' them!"

This chest heals whoever holds it by eating bananas dispensed by it (making the eating noise everyone loves so much ;)). Interact with it to receive bananas!

    Inspired by @Cpt-Vunderbar

    Forsaken Chest

    ForsakenChest

"A chest filled with molten gold. It's molten core and immense heat makes it very difficult to transport, but well worth the reward."

A chest to fit in with the Devil's Roar, injures you as you carry it and smoulders periodically.

    Inspired by @Major-Bones

    Chest of Fury

    ChestofFury

"A chest with the raging fury of a storm trapped within it. This chest makes one fear the pure might of mother nature's brutality."

A chest made as a counterpart to the Chest of Sorrow. It summons forth lightning strikes and messes with compasses while its active!

    Inspired by @Starship42

    Abyssal Chest:

    AbyssalChest

"An ancient chest of a long forgotten seafarer, this chest was consumed along with his ship by the might Kraken. For years it festered in the beast's gullet before eventually taking on a life of it's own."

From the darkest reaches of the darkest depths, the Kraken wakes. After a long and gruelling battle you slay him AND... nothing. This chest gives some incentive to fighting the Kraken, and along with belching up all the loot he's eaten, would be a nice little reward!

Remember to share your ideas! Every detail helps, but in the end I may or may not choose yours to draw. I will probably also tweak them so they'd fit in the game better or not be too OP. Keep a weather eye on this post, I will update it regularly! ;D

  • This is exactly why i wish i could draw, this is so cool!

  • There have been some great ideas for new chests mentioned in past threads which I hope pop up here again.

    Here's a few ideas I have:

    1. Storm Chest: a chest that attracts storms to the chest - so it will cause any storm to change course and drift to your ship, OR, if you place the chest somewhere, can keep a storm away from you.

    2. Skeleton Chest: attracts the attention of random skellies, and skellie ships in the area, to you or your ship, or to the chest itself, wherever it happens to be placed. If you put it on the ground skellies will appear and attempt to protect it and prevent you from taking it. Once picked up, you become a beacon for increased targeting by skellies, wherever you are, whatever you are doing.

    3. Treasure Chest: a chest that glows and makes a special sound when you are sailing over, or close to, underwater loot, or something of value. Works also when carrying it on land - when chest glows and makes special sound, you should stop and dig up loot. Behaves like a geiger counter for detecting random unseen loot buried, or in water.

    4. Volcano Chest: when in Devil's Roar, this chest can warn you well in advance that a volcano is about to erupt close by, before smoke rises from that volcano, giving you extra time. Also has the power to deflect falling volcanic rock away from your ship... for a limited period of time. Warning: if you rely on it too much, it can reverse these effects and trigger a volcano, then attract falling rock to wherever the chest happens to be.

    5. Spawn Chest: this chest can act as a spawn point wherever it is placed. So, if you die, you can then choose to spawn either on your ship (at the ferry bulletin board), or spawn close to your Spawn Chest. Be warned though, if someone steals the chest while you are on the ferry, you will spawn whever they place that chest.

    6. Genie Chest: this chest has a spirit/genie/mermaid? inside that will grant you 3 wishes (offered by the spirit/genie). But be careful, you may get more than what you thought you wished for when your wishes are granted... buhuhuwhahahaha! If you accept all three wishes, your chest could be worth much more, or much less, than if you did or didn't accept these wishes at all.

    7. Safe Space Chest: a temporary emergency escape chest. So your ship is being attacked, and you can't PvP worth a damn, so you run below deck, activate the chest and you are instantly swallowed by the chest and protected by it. From inside, you can see and hear everything outside the chest, but you can do nothing else. If someone steals the chest while you are in it, you can stay inside it, hidden, but you can only stay inside it for a limited time, then you will be spit out randomly if you don't exit the chest within a specified time frame. If you are still inside the chest when it is cashed in, you will die and not receive any gold for your trouble. For surprise purposes, the SS Chest should appear to others like any other chest, when occupied by a player.

I've got other ideas also, but I'll shut up now.

  • @taaaamas

Thanks a ton! I tried my best to make it fit in the game :)

  • @starship42

The idea of the Storm Chest is an idea i've seen a lot, the problem I think would be if multiple people find them.

How about instead make the chest cause lightning to strike the ship and messes with the wind, compass and helm when its active? Everything the storm would do except the rain and waves. Make it like the Chest of Sorrow. :)

  • Here are a few chests ideas that I have read about in the past that havent already been mentioned...

    1. Poison Chest: This chest would at random intervals of time act like a snake in that it spits poison all around it.

    2. Rage Chest: This chest would get angrier the longer it is on the sea and the only way to calm it down is to get it on land. Otherwise it would explode similar to a gunpowder barrel and you will lose the chest.

    3. Loaded Chest: A chest that is worth more than any average chest however with much value comes great weight. With this chest you will carry it significantly slower.

    4. Jester Chest: This one I believe has had art done for it. Once on board the ship it will at random times have a ghostly jester come out that you can only hear, to raise/lower the anchor, raise/lower the sails, etc.

    5. Illusion Chest: The longer the chest is on your boat the crazier it gets. At first just simple illusions such as small rocks or ships in the distance. But as time progresses you can begin to see galleons pulling along side you to fire at you the only way you tell it is fake is by the lack of damage being done to the ship. Or giant landmasses that you are about to run into that you could of sworn weren't there before. You get the point.

Thats all I got on the top of my head. I feel like I should re-iterate this though, none of these are my original ideas just things I have read about and attempted to change to be better (at least for me!).

  • @reavermachete50 Wow i like to see someone has taking up the mantle to rune this list. You may want to post the original Topic New Treasure Chest Designs by @Cows-n-Muffins
    In your OP.

Also would your post to be added to the master list?

  • @enf0rcer I have seen that list, but this is something a bit different.

This is a place where people can suggest chests and I will Draw ones I think are nice ideas. :D All ideas that end up on the list will be drawn by me, and shared for the world to see!

  • Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea Chest . the longer it's on your boat the more chance of the different sea creatures attacking.

  • The Jester Chest was posted here:
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/53147/the-chest-of-jesters-new-treasure-chest-concept

  • @starship42

New chest added, inspired by your Storm Chest suggestion! :)

  • I just finished some Athena’s voyages and we were discussing this very concept. One of the players suggested a really interesting chest idea.

Devils Roar / Dragon Breath Chest
Burns your hands and saps your health when carrying the chest.

I thought the idea was clever since the figurehead for the devils roar is a fire breathing dragon,

Maybe a new fog chest could be implemented for forsaken shores.

    Just some ideas, thanks.

  • "The Chest Of A Thousand Feasts"

Design: A barrel shaped chest with a grinning monkeys' face on it. It's handles are banannas, and the whole chest is colored brown with multiple elaborately carved banannas jutting out from every angle.

Purpose: While this chest is in the possession of a crew, their ship will remain fully stocked with bananas. While carrying the chest, it will constantly replenish a pirate's health meter until filled.

Oh thats even better. I didn't relize you where offering to draw chest. Could you plz then make a design for the Reapers Chest for my Rouge Wave Event "The Hunt". This was a long running chest idea that has had many interrations in many post trying to make an exclusive PvP focus chest to encourage more player participation. This version came from the mind of another community member. It is part of a larger DLC idea focused on theift called Rogue Wave. The basic idea is a chest that is always mark on the Map table after it was spwaned. This version goes one step further by making it a Loot sink. I hope you consider this chest and thankyou in advance.
The only thing i can say about it is.
It's in the same color's and has the symbol of the Reaper Mark Flag and has a black misty essance that flows from it.

  • @enf0rcer I really like this idea, but the loot sink part doesn't seem to encourage PvP that much.

How about instead of placing loot in the chest, it's value goes up over time? That way people will keep the chest on their ship and defend it as long as they can so they get the maximum reward when turning it in. And it'll also mean that everyone will want to take the chest from the ship that has it and head to the marker on the map. :)

That was also one variation of the chest that was proposed. I took this one as it faciltated the idea of hoarding Loot which Rogue Wave center around. forcing crews to stop at islands giving moments of opportunity for more clever and sneaky pirates. Plus it works with the rest of the game instead of a stand alone. The idea is giving PvP a structure that is focused around theift as a whole and not simply combat.

It's value will still go up in time as player put more loot in it.

  • @enf0rcer

When I design things for the game I like to take into account all facets of the game itself, including base mechanics and lore. The problem with the idea of a loot sink is that a central game mechanic in Sea of Thieves is that every chest is a separate entity that gives a sense of weight to haul, and in lore sense chests need to be opened by a Gold Hoarder, as they are the only ones with skeleton keys (Plus an entire chest wouldn't fit into another chest).

That being said, if the idea of the chest is to facilitate theft, how about having the chest increase in value over time, but increases in speed the more loot it is surrounded by? Or increase the max value the more loot is around it? Forcing players to hoard massive amounts of treasure to make the Reaper's Chest increase in value at a rapid pace? :)

  • @major-bones

Love the idea of the dragon chest, probably gonna be the next one I design. Only a small idea, how about making the name "Forsaken Chest"? To fit in with the Devil's Roar part of the game. :)

    @starship42

The idea of the Storm Chest is an idea i've seen a lot, the problem I think would be if multiple people find them.

I can definitely see it being a problem if there is more than one on a given server at any given time. A chest like this should only appear once, or until cashed in or it despawns. Since there is only ever one storm afaik. I just like the idea of a chest that attracts that entire storm toward it wherever it is on the map. Like a storm magnet. But yeah, if the spawn rate of each chest can't be controlled then that would be a problem.

  • How about the Chest of Plenty, along the lines of some of those stated above, with the value increasing as the pirate carries it, but also it gets heavier making the pirate carrying it walk slower, until at its heaviest, the pirate walks at a snails pace. :)

  • @reavermachete50 How about the:

    Anchor chest?!

It would require two people to carry and if you jump into the water with it you will rapidly sink.
So make sure to utilise your rowboat and co-ordinate with your crew! Or he might find yourselves pulled to a watery grave xD

  • @reavermachete50 The Reapers Chest: a chest that malfests and binds itself on the lower deck after youve flown the Reapers Mark for length of time without being sank, this chest is not for the holders but for whoever dares to challenges the mark and the ship to its watery grave
    Love this post btw!

I can understand your argument about having more chest to give a sense of weight and value. The thing your forgetting here is this is a curse chest so magic would explian how other chest can fit.

These were some of my earlier idea's but we run into a technical issue of the limits of memory. If all players started to hoard loot and not cash in then there would get to a point that too many objects being generated in the seesion for the server to handel leading to massive memory induced lag and eventual crash. That's also assuming the client doesn't crash frist. If you tried to Loot hoard in this game there gets to a point where it becomes unplayable once a certian amount of loot is on the ship. This is why a loot sink is necessary as the value takes up practicaly no resources but the objects like chest do as game needs to constantly track the items.

Another nice variation on the reaper chest. So many idea's for one chest.

  • How about an ashen chest of sorrow that fills your ship with boiling water?

  • @enf0rcer

Hmmm, how about setting an artificial cap on the Reaper's Chest? That way hoarding loot after that point wouldn't add to the Reaper's Chest and it would stop people hoarding thousands of chests to get the Reaper's Chest to hundreds of thousands of Golds worth.

It would still be a high cap, but the more chests you get the faster it reaches the cap so it would encourage hoarding, but would stop insane amounts of objects being generated as people wouldn't continue hoarding after the maximum value had been reached.

  • Chest of the all curses:
When this chest is unearthed, the crew must put five cursed cannonballs into the chest. The cannonballs will be specified by the chest. If in a certain time the cannonballs are not introduced, a ship of skeletons will go out to battle against the crew.

  • @blustar101 Poison Chest, Rage Chest added to To Do List!

@x0acheron0x That's a pretty cool idea, but I feel like the Megalodon is already pretty common ^_^" and the Kraken is supposed to be rare. How about if we tone it down a bit so it attracts large amounts of sharks to it, as if it was filled with chum? :)

@Major-Bones Dragon Chest added to To Do List!

@Cpt-Vunderbar I like it, but how bout instead of fully stocking a ship with bananas, players can just interact with it to get bananas (Similar to grog in the Grog Chest)? Also while carrying it and it heals you, how bout we make it make the 'eating bananas' sound people hate so much? Hehe ;D

@lizalaroo Nice idea! Also what if when it's on your ship it acts like a Ballastball? Slowly gaining weight and making it dangerous to keep on your ship for a long period of time?

@KnifeLife Love it, it's simple and fun! :D Although, there is the issue of two people carrying it. I play solo a lot, and it would suck if I dug up this chest only to find out I can't take it back. A lot of people seem to like the idea of a two man chest, but it seems they forget us lonely solo players. ^_^" But the sinking idea is a great way to encourage rowboat use!

@testakleze I love the idea, but to be honest there's not really much for me to... design. Still, good idea!

  • @reavermachete50 You know what, considering I sail solo 90% of the time I don’t no how I didn’t think of that 😂

I have also had discussion about adding a cap infact i have 2 my proposed "The Hunt" Event and the main Rogue Wave Topic. The frist is limiting the Reaper Chest to one a time and the other is a soft loot cap to the ship. So the value of the reaper chest is capped. The reason for this i wanted loot hoarding to be a persistant objective for everyone not just the ship with the Reapers Chest as well as other smaller reasons. I hold this Topic of disscusion in my other related Treads if you wish to continue disscussing this matter there. Like I've said many have offered variation of this chest each with there own pro and cons.

But getting back to the Topic of this post you clearly seemed intrigued by this Chest. Would I be correct to assume you wish to help bring it to life and add a bit of your flavor to it.😉

  • What about...

Invincibility Chest or Fountain of Youth Chest

When picked up, this chest restores the health of it's holder, but only as long as he is holding it. Once put down, the holder is vulnerable to damage and health decrease as usual.

Also, as long as you are holding the chest, it literally protects the holder from ALL damage, no matter what is causing it. If you hold the chest you essentially become immortal - as long as you are holding the chest.

However, so long as you are holding the chest you can do little except walk, run, and swim. The benefit to being in possession of this chest is as a health charging station. Yet that makes it attractive for players to want to steal for themselves and their crew. You might think this would unbalance the game giving unfair advantage to those in possession of it, but don't forget ...

If you cannot access and pick up the chest, it does you no good. If you die before being able to reach the chest and pick it up, you will go to the ferry and your enemy may steal the chest for himself.

One thing is certain; this chest will be fought over. Those in possession will need to place it in a wise place to benefit themselves and their crew, otherwise it may be stolen

  • @Major-Bones New chest added inspired by your idea! :)

  • @reavermachete50 That’s a really cool chest. Thanks for making it. It would make for a cool addition to the game. Pretty basic principles to how it works, and the curse is pretty unique when compared to the other chests.

  • @reavermachete50
Wow those drawings are awesome!!! and some great ideas for different cursed chests!!!

I would love to see a Crab chest - one that if your not paying any attention to, gets up and scuttles away haha!

  • @enf0rcer It's a great idea and I'm definitely going to design it. :) it's on the list.

@stacky-a Crab chest is now on my To Do List! :D
