New Competitive Voyages

  • Daydreaming of a perfect voyage...

I want a multi-island voyage with hints, clues, a cave to explore and traps along the way. I want the mission to be given to at least one other crew at nearly the same time, so we keep running into each other along the way. I want a huge pile of loot at the end.

Basically, Indiana Jones with more pirates and less nazis. Or just Pirates of the Caribbean without Depp.

    Please and thank you.

  • @captain-arcanic That sounds like fun, like a cave system that is basically a b***y-trapped maze with a pile of treasure at the end, and multiple crews are in the maze with you all scrambling to make it to the end.

  • Yes! But the opposing crews aren't just there at the end, they are actively trying to get the clues before you.

    • Maybe some of your stops reveal the correct way to bypass traps.
    • Maybe you get a skeleton key that unlocks a door you otherwise would have to to bring down with multiple gunpowder kegs.
    • Maybe an informant gives you the correct tune to keep the hoard of skeletons from attacking you.

And some of these clues can be stolen from other pirates! Maybe you didn't get to a stop first, but you battle the crew that did and steal that skeleton key.

Lastly, that endgame cave is only revealed to the people with the map (cave of wonder style).

There's SO much more you could do with this, but that's the basic idea.

  • I think you suggested in another post the idea of a map with multiple legs to it, but also a "piece" of a four part map, let's say, where other crews may have the missing pieces you need to complete the full map. There could be small treasures located on one piece, but if you can see all four pieces of map together, a major X marks the spot magically appears on the map, with a vast booty, completing the quest.

It would encourage temporary alliances, to piece together the map, but also possibly betrayals.

A multi-leg "journey" quest is similar to this as well.

  • Yeah, the thought has definitely been percolating.

Here's an additional thought. One of the items could be a "ghost key" that allows you to actually see a cave opening that is otherwise invisible/impassable. Or an invisible bridge, etc.

Every island could have three or four secret caves and passages written into their code that are only accessible/active with certain voyages.

Voyage items could be stashed in certain barrels at outposts or islands too. Again, having the voyage active and on the table allows you to find the monkey idol hidden in the barrel behind the tavern on Dagger Tooth, etc.

It could also activate certain dialogue lines in standard figures.

The extra cool part about this, is those not in the know would just see a pirate stocking up from a barrel, until he runs off with a golden monkey head.

  • @captain-arcanic yes. Definitely we need more use of the scattered barrels around the outposts.

Like the idea that there may be secret passages/cave entrances triggered by a quest. Again, I find the outposts are not utilized enough. We barely have reason to explore them other than for the NPC's/cashing in loot, and getting quests and supplies. Certain outposts are very spacious with a lot of pathways/passages... why not utilize them in game.
