I now have a love-hate relationship with server merges... Me and my crew just spent about 2 hours trying to solo the skeleton ships and as soon, and I mean as soon as the final ship sunk there was a server merge. All of the loot could not be interacted with, and by the time one of us reloaded the game, the loot had either sunk to the depths or flew into the air and we couldn't catch it. I'm sure it is a rare event for this to happen, but I would love to actually be able to interact with loot after server merges. This isn't written out of rage (well a little bit of rage) but I would actually just like to let someone know about this if there is even a fix for it. Thanks for listening to my rant. :)
Server merge
@warmedbanjo140 I've come to dread server merges, and here's an example of why.
My crew and I begin an exciting new adventure on the Sea of Thieves. We decide to start our voyage with a stop at a nearby shipwreck. So we stock up a bit, drop sail and set off on our journey.
(Server Merge) - Shipwreck gone.
Okay. But look! Skeleton ships! And they're nearby, too! The crew decides to run a few easy voyages in the area while stocking the ship for the epic battle ahead. We manage to dig up a few chests while fully supplying the ship. We set course for that beckoning ship-like cloud looming overhead. Almost there! Load the cannons! Trim the sails!
(Server Merge) - Ship Cloud Gone.
Well crud. Wait, what's this? A skull fort? Great, let's do that! We adjust course and sail full speed ahead for that ominous skull in the sky. It won't be long before we...
(Server Merge) - Skeleton Cloud Gone.
This is ridiculous. Well, forget it, let's just run some voyages. So the crew sets course for an island that, according to rumor, has six chests buried in its shallow sands. Wonderful! Along the way,as we pass close to a small isle I hear the sound of weeping. A Chest of Sorrows! Cha-ching! I order the helmsman to come about while I dive into the coastal waters to search for the...
(Server Merge) - Chest Gone.
This is all stuff that's happened to us. It's frustrating and sometimes infuriating. All this for, what, exactly? To be shuffled onto a more populous server, with unknown numbers of players and ships who may or may not prove to be insufferable miscreants? Ya know what, it's not worth it to me. I don't care if we have the seas to ourselves. Eventually maybe someone will pop onto our server, and that's fine. Let them come. But stop ruining our sessions by merging us away from our game play.
Server merges have ruined more than one session for me and my crew, who often have limited time to play. We get together a few times a week and the time we have is the time we have. Just let us play and stop trying to shuffle us around. It takes a significant amount of time to stock up and prepare for the skellie ship battles, not to mention the time it takes to sail to the battle. When we go through all that, only to have the ships vanish before our eyes, our time has been wasted and our session ruined. I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick that stupid football. It seems like we fall for it every damn time.
@warmedbanjo140 I wonder if it wouldn’t be best for Rare to disable server merges until they fix these rather massive issues.

I absolutely agree with you and feel your pain. My crew and I are fed up with it as well. This is making the last person I started sailing with tired of playing SoT. They need to stop server merges completely and do it now.
This here does not just stop players from wanting to play their game, this is their game preventing players from playing it.
Rare seems to only like and listen to players who are 100% positive. The New York Comic Con was very revealing about a lot of things. I am not sure it matters what the rest of us think or feel.
@Genuine-Heather well you make my little story seem like nothing... I don't know how you kept sailing after the first two times. I do like the server merges in a way because it keeps you with players and its not just you running around by yourself. I don't like how it is forced though, there should be an NPC of some sort on an outpost that could see if your crew is eligible for a server merge that way you have time to complete what you are doing and turn in your loot. Then check with the NPC to see if there are enough players in the server you are in to be able to have fun on the seas. If there are not then maybe server merge your crew (if that's even possible) only. I don't know, just my thoughts. I really do enjoy the game, but things like this bother me.
Ahoy matey!
I'm really sorry the server migration issue affected you but you're not the only one and Rare is working on a fix!
As the number of posts like yours and other concerns started to be very common recently on the Forum, I created a few days ago the following thread: Skeleton Ships improvements that are coming to keep everyone up to date!
Hopefully these improvements and fixes will come soon :)
I really really hope there is a fix to the merges soon as well. Many a time doing merchants with several pigs aboard and after a merge, you can no longer feed them. Little did I know this would be the smaller annoyance of the merges. I am glad for the merges, I like the PVP aspect, rather than a server alone. The other day I was sailing with my normal galleon crew and we were taking on the the skelly ships. We had a megaldon attack attack during the battle and we defeated the meg. The battle with the cursed sails continued according to plan and we were able to get most of the treasure on all the pre-boss ships, even taking down a PVP galleon and sloop who came in to sink us. We completed the cursed sails without further problems (even though we were on scant supplies at this point). Only just after the captain's ship sank, we had a server merge. I kid you not, as I was in the water awaiting the treasure to surface, 10 sharks spawned in front of my face. Not only that, by another meg spawned upon our ship. As you may know, the treasure was no longer able to be picked up due to the server merge. We tried fighting off that meg and picking up all that treasure just floating in our faces, that we had worked so very hard for. We did not have the resources or time to try and figure it out. There were so many sharks in the water that we were visiting the Ferry of the Damned (and hopefully reset our characters being able to pick up the treasure). There was nothing we could do to retrieve it. Needless to say, I was really mad at first, but we are a good team to take on all that we did and not sink. We left with two planks of wood. I really hope they can fix the server merges. It would make the gaming experience less of a sense of defeat in the face of victory. I love my crew! Good luck to all. Happy sailing!
