Back to Basics - Reroll for Rewards!

  • Greetings, Salutations, ABHOY!

    TL;DR:

I have a new shiny Pirate, who will never be levelled up, ready to run basic, one map voyages in order to help folk gain their commendations if they need it in the normal game OR Devil’s Roar as these voyages, whilst multi map, are still easier

    Back to my ramblings:

So as I creep ever closer to Pirate Legend (42, 42, 39 as of writing this lengthy Topic) I have played the game like everyone and increased my standing with the various companies to buy bigger and better voyages - nice! Better loot! More Maps! More Riddles...

Normally this would not be an issue - the increase in rewards for a higher voyage, as well as a more favourable RNG roll for better chests would be welcomed as I claw my way millimetre by millimetre along that EXP circle every time I hand something in, but... we have a new area to explore, with new (well documented) dangers and of course, a requirement to complete 5 Gold Hoarder and 5 Order of Souls voyages in order to unlock those shiny new uniforms.

This left my crew in a pickle... do we go ahead and run lengthy voyages, just to get the new rewards, when we mostly want to Athena (they're all legend) and have fun? The answer, for me at least is NO!

    SO...

Here is where my grand plan came into effect:

    A NEW TOON!

Now this is not North Eastern English Dialect for a new Outpost... no no no: I introduce to these forums Sshteeve86! A shiny new pirate, ready for adventures - adventures that are LEVEL ONE!

Yes... tonight my normal character will take a slight back seat, whilst I run my shiny new Pirate through 5 OoS and 5 GH voyages, before hopefully we do the same again with one of their lads and/or lasses at level 1.

But I don't want to be greedy and unfair, so I hereby offer, should any pirate want to, the opportunity to run early voyages with me in the Devil's Roar, with no cost to you at all, other than perhaps being restricted to the times I can play.

Come one, come all, bring a rowboat!

    Sshteeve

    [EDIT]
So it turns out that voyages in the Devil's Roar are random and not linked to your faction levels in terms of how many maps or riddles and bounties that you get, but they are EASIER (1 x per map or only a couple of bounties)

  • @sshteeve Doing the lords work there Steve! This is a cool idea.

  • @luciansanchez82 cheers buddy

  • Abhoy shipmate! Very interesting idea :-)

Now that you say it, I also have a second login from back in my ARK: Survival Evolved hosting days. Never occurred to me that there was a useable gamer tag attached to it ;-)

  • @sshteeve Very noble and commendable (see what I did there) but...... I've never upgraded my OoS rep and still have the free maps, only to discover that in Devil's Roar it doesn't seem to make a difference. Voyages still cost 200 gold, and the difficulty fluctuates from voyage to voyage.

  • @foxdodge Awwwww man... that sucks!
So not just one map either?!

  • @sshteeve I do also have one. @Abelenha is no level at nothing but merchant.

Unfortunately in Devils roar there's no difference between levels...
Devils roar quests have all the same level for everyone that buys them regardless of their actual level with the alliances.

Actually I created this in order to roleplay a non-pirate character. Was supposed to do only merchant and hunt down pirates roleplaying Navy

But turned out to be pretty useful to help with some commendation as well.

  • @foxdodge I thought that was the case, that low level cost 200 just like PL level.

It is interesting looking at lfg, that a lot ask for PLs only, then events like this they are asking for low levelled pirates only. It has seemed to flip between the two, I wonder if the events have been designed this way, to include all pirates no matter the level.

  • @sshteeve Yesterday I had one voyage that was only one map on a small island (I forget the name) with three captains, and then the next voyage was a multi chapter quest, 2 maps first chapter, 2 maps second, each with up to four captains per island. It took me so long I didn't finish it.

  • @Sshteeve

It's a very generous action but I don't know if you've noticed but the Devil's Roar Voyages are not reputation based like the regular ones.

That means everyone, no matter what level, pays 200 gold for a Devil's Roar Voyage and will have the same RNG. That's why a 50 level Pirate will find a lot of Ashen Castaway and Seaferer :)

  • Thanks to all of my fellow Boatswain for notifying me that the voyages in the Devil's Roar have no reflection on your actual faction level.

I have edited my original post to reflect upon this!

  • the rewards may be low or same but are PLs say, getting lots of maps with more Xs rather than low level that get 1 map with 1 X?
The same with OoS, more captains, tougher difficulty?

Maybe that's why many are querying the difficulty of DR, finding their voyages too tough thus needing that low level 1 map voyage. Or maybe it's completely random...

  • @scoobywrx555 well in the spirit of science and exploration I shall test tonight - my baseline will be my level 40 OoS and GH voyages last night -

    • usually 3 riddles and 2 maps of 2 or 3 Xs for GH
    • usually 4 bounties with various skull amounts in each (around 7 in total though I believe)

I'll report back tomorrow with findings

  • Update

@scoobywrx555 , @Skulliah , @Foxdodge , @NunoAzuldimeter and @SpecialAdvisor I now have some research findings to share and I believe that I can say that a fresh character DOES provide easier voyages in the Devil's Roar.

Last night I joined @LucianSanchez82 and a couple of his friends with Sshteeve86 and found that his voyages in the Roar were much simpler than the ones Sshteeve comes across when sailing:

    Voyage 1 - Gold Hoarders
    1 Riddle (3 step) - one chapter
    Voyage 2 - Gold Hoarders
2 Riddles (both 3 step) - one chapter
    Voyage 3 - Gold Hoarders
    1 X Marks the spot - 1st Chapter
3 step riddle and another X Marks the spot - Final Chapter

I then tried this morning again to see what happens in a sloop and found:
Voyage 4 - Order of Souls
    1 Bounty - 3 Captains - 1 Chapter
Voyage 5 - Order of Souls
    2 Bounties - 2 Captains each - 1 Chapter

What is interesting is that the chapters for voyages are not coming up at present, though I don't know if this is a wholescale bug, or just for Devil's Roar voyages.
We didn't realise Voyage 3 was actually a multi chapter until AFTER completing the first riddle (which also means Voyage 3, which was abandoned could have been multi chapter also)

So what I can currently deduce is that YES, the voyages are random in the number of islands and bounties, but they NO they are not the same difficulty as a higher ranking character, as they usually have a lot less bounties to collect, or they only have a single X on maps.

I also had a check on Sshteeve after doing those other two and found the following:
    Voyage 1 - Gold Hoarders
    3 Riddles, multi-step
    3 maps, multi Xs
    Voyage 2 - Gold Hoarders
2 Riddles and a Map with multiple Xs

I did not attempt either, so do not know if there were chapters, but I would assume the first was not with so many in one go.

  • @sshteeve Nice one, so yeah it is as normal, the lower the level voyage the easier it is. The only difference is they all cost 200

  • @scoobywrx555 yes and no... they are not limited to a single map or riddle this time, yet they do seem to never go above 4.
But the actual maps are easier (only ever 1 X per map for example to date)

  • @sshteeve I haven't promotioned my GH up too much so mine too are relatively short and easy, just curious as to why they all cost 200. Can't think off the top of me head how much 1 ashen castaway would pay out, I guess even at lvl 1 you would turn a profit.

  • @scoobywrx555 yes even a castaway you are looking at more than 200 gold return.
I think the idea is that as it is a dangerous new area, you really shouldn't be coming here if you have just started the game!

  • @sshteeve Some interesting findings. Was also a damn fun session!

  • @luciansanchez82 It certainly was, your mates made me laugh more than once!
