XBox One S controller connectivity [PC]

  • When playing with a XBox One S controller (Bluetooth), within a minute or two (average) of connecting the controller, it becomes unresponsive, and is locked to the last input. If I was running forward when the connection was lost, I'll still be running forward. Occasionally, my character will look up as well.

The guide button light on the controller doesn't change at all, like nothing happened. This continues until I turn the controller off, even if I move to using kb+m.

I've used two different XBox One S controllers to validate the issue. I've updated the controllers, re-installed my Bluetooth drivers. I've also confirmed that this issue doesn't occur with any other games, at least through Steam (tested four other games with both controllers). I can't check against any other XBox app games, as I don't own any.

The most baffling part is I can't find anyone else mentioning this specific issue on forums or the subreddit. Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm getting by with kb+m but I would really prefer to use a controller with this game. I appreciate any help the community can offer.

  • @personalc0ffee I did create a support ticket yesterday, with the same subject as this post, noting I'm on PC. Their initial response was that I might need to "reset my Xbox One console," which I don't have. I told them that, and they haven't responded yet.

The controller is an official Microsoft Xbox One S controller. My Bluetooth adapter is a Broadcom BCM20702 USB adapter.

Also I downloaded the Forza Horizon 4 demo to test whether it was specific to games played through the Xbox app. Controller worked fine, no connectivity issues.

EDIT: Just realized this might sound snippy. Didn't mean it to. Thanks for responding!

  • @personalc0ffee I guess I'll wait for a reply to my ticket.

The S controllers were the first ones with Bluetooth capability, in 2016 I think. I believe the SoT controller is an S model. I think they've phased out the old ones now, so these are probably the standard model now. Just when I first got it they were all referred to as S.

  • @kilgore Mine did the same but turned out to be

    1. moving out of range of the PC Bluetooth dongle
    2. batteries running low on the Controller
    3. Both of the above (the lower the battery level of the controller, the closer I needed to be)
  • @triheadedmonkey Thanks for the reply. I did think of that, but I just put new batteries in this. And I don't think that would explain why this ONLY happens with Sea of Thieves. I've played multiple other games without the same problem.

  • @kilgore ahh ok. Then I am out of ideas, unfortunately. If it is still under warranty you could try and return/replace it I guess?

    Hopefully, support can help.
