Forsaken shores review

  • So Forsaken shores ultimately landed itself a 3.5/10 in my book feeling like yet another very unrewarding dlc in my book and another example of the potential for something great being wasted.

I would first like to point out the positive points.

    • the dynamics of the islands felt amazing like you were near an erupting volcano it was something new and something nice.
-the new gear you could buy actually felt like there was real design to it and not just copy and paste retextured items that all look similar.
-the take all feature is a halfway decent change to the great barrel 2.0 failure. Half a point awarded
-Rare took the time to actually release this dlc and have it funtioning pretty well.

    Now for the negative.

    • First all Rare did was with this dlc was extend already repetative gameplay and make it more difficult.
-There is also an illusion of loot being more rewarding when it all just amounts to gold to buy cosmetics so there is no point in being in devils roar beyond the commendations which none exists for turning in ashen loot.
-all the islands feel like copy paste material. None of these islands feel like they stand out from one another nothing unique to make one more enjoyable than the others. Even at the large islands all the threats of that island are exactly the same.
-the small floating outposts are pointless just random discounted items that you might as well get at full price with how easy gold is to obtain.
-the story just feels slapped in and pointless
-Finding missions in a barrel feels like a forced way to create more purpose to the new barrel system and with as numerous as message in a bottles are this feels pointless.

Overall this is just the same exact thing retextured with the new threat being the islands. So the game remains as vast as an ocean and as deep as a puddle.

  • @blatantwalk4260 You said the story feelings slapped in and pointless but they have not given us the full story yet..There is more to the story and I think they will be giving it to us weekly..and I am sorry you are not enjoying the new area! I honestly like it a lot and will probably live over there from now on. LOL

  • You didn't like it?

  • Hmm 3.5 a little harsh? I'm really enjoying it. Think the story behind what happened to the first crew is a little too easy and way too many doubloons are the only things I have against it. Loving the geasers for oos and pvp.

  • @averageheroz everything just feels slapped in an ununique with no real purpose to explore the islands or the time to do so and enjoy them. Everything just feels the same if you look at the last one they added ships to fight they broke the reptative features of the game. This one they just took the existing fetch quests which os every quest and made them harder without actually being more rewarding.

  • @jonoz1982 the geysers pretty much do oos for you

  • @ghostpaw im just saying outside of the volcanos its exactly the same as the base game all they do is just make exactly what everyone was doing before harder which is good. Thwy could have given us flaming skeletons the burn qhen you get to close so you have to shoot them. Something to make things feel a tad different. There could have even been a volcanic skull fort.

  • @averageheroz There is more to the story? where did you read that or it is a hint in game?

  • @r3b3lspy Jim said he and his friend are working on something..and that something is coming soon or something like that..can't remember it word for word..but he basically says something is coming..and he does not tell us the name of his friend..so don't you think there will be more..? lol

Let's assume they did those things and let me take a crack at a similar review. (EDIT: For those of you skimming... this is NOT my opinion.)

"Flaming skeletons!? Why? Why is it always skeletons? What about ghosts, dangerous animals, SOMETHING other than skeletons!? They just keep reskinning the same assets! Lazy! Do they even care anymore? More of the same."

"A fort with a volcano? Really? Again, the same things just slightly changed. What about a cave or something to battle? Maybe a temple. Something with traps, a boss that is actually hard for a change. Not more of the same stuff we've been playing since launch!"

"Delude yourselves if you want but this is the final nail in the SoT coffin. They just are not trying anymore!"

Does that about sum it up?

  • @ghostpaw your not wrong but not right either,

It does not matter what game you play, because you alwaise do the same stuff in games, its what you do about your gaming, the people you meet :)

  • @alzheimeers I was afraid that might occur. I agree with you. My last post was me imitating the negative posts that the same crowd predictably post after each content update, no matter what Rare releases. I look at how very much the game has changed since launch in a lot of great ways, but apparently not everyone sees it the same way.

  • @averageheroz Oh yes, the wealthy friend.

  • @ghostpaw aaa i see i see :) Well Im one of the negative ones at this forum atm, but Im also they Guy that give positiv feedback If something Good comes, still My game play is the same, nothing to do but rare made My gaming in SoT more alive and thats positiv and made the game alot more fun :)

@ghostpaw There does need to be some new permanent land based enemy type. Skeletons got boring by day 3 of launch.

@BlatantWalk4260 See? No matter what you or anyone else dreams up, there will be others who think it is a boring idea. They do not like your flaming skeleton idea.

  • @ghostpaw I mean thats bot to far off a bit more demanding but that guys not wrong the nail in the coffin is a bit much for reviewing something

  • @alzheimeers so what youre saying is that the games not good its the players who make it good? So theres no standard rare has to be held to as long as people play the game?

  • @ghostpaw i mean thats fine they just expect even more than i do. I was suggesting something that stayed within the theme of the game

  • @blatantwalk4260 oposite way,

The game is Good (look rly Good) fun to chill in, but they culd have Done more, swing urself from crownest to enemy boat jadda jadda, it has tons of potential this game If you just emadgin what i could be in the end, but at My point were i am

Im Done in the game nothing to do, so what makes me come back to the game now???
First My crew that i played so Manny hours with

Two, the world we are playing in, and now rare made me enjoy the world (there is something happening all the time) i dont feel it boring anymore,
And the PvP is much better at the new area not so Manny CCB there and i think thats Good because they bugged me abit took away the feeling for a Good fight for me,
So atm Im rly happy, but i see the potential for the game to become greater :)

  • @alzheimeers the only new things to pvp is volcanoes and rowboats though and ccbs are still easy to come by and anchoring a crew with an anchor ball under a volcano is fun the firat time you do it. Player interactions are still few and far between with nothing to fill the gap

  • @alzheimeers this again though requires players to make the game good not the core game itself.

  • @blatantwalk4260 Yeah without a Good playerbase (people that can go total crazy but in the end drink s beer with you and laught either outcom of the fight) this game would not be as Good,

Its rly easy to see what i like in the game PvP and a world that is alive,

I thinke i Been at the new area for like 20H and enjoy it alot, but have not seen alot of CCB yet so thats Why i write Like i do/But i can be wrong,

Butt i dont find so much CCB there, and that makes me happy :)

I do like to pvp with rowboats thats alot of fun:)

  • @alzheimeers So lets say you are in a session where people are avoiding interaction or a dead server what does the game at its core offers. This is what im pointing out pvp is an unpredictable variable that isnt guaranteed to occur in sea of thieves. So outside of that the dlc offers very little if the game cant function to be fun without the influence of other players then that only validates that the game is missing much needed content that could have existed with this dlc instead of just recycling the same old fetch quests.

-Objects give more money. If you want money, play there.
-Athena quests give more experience, more money and are shorter.

I think that are two good reasons to be there.

  • @guepard4 right the money that players already have millions of that you get to spend on what exactly. You also realize you go to that region to do the same repetative fetch quests for only a slight boost in cash. I also Im athena 10 probably should have mentioned theres no new pl content. Thanks for reminding me of another negative to that list.

Then when you say "there is nothing to do" actually you mean "I have nothing to do because I played a lot and I am Athena 10"?

Yeah, they should introduce some new content for PL, but you can't say there is nothing to do just because you have done everything.

  • @guepard4 most dlc content also extend upon end game so yea that is a huge negative that it does not

  • @blatantwalk4260 oooh Yeah on that point i totally agree with you, If i would not have all the possibillity to come across other players/i would not play

So Yeah in the npc world the game missed alot
