So Forsaken shores ultimately landed itself a 3.5/10 in my book feeling like yet another very unrewarding dlc in my book and another example of the potential for something great being wasted.
I would first like to point out the positive points.
- the dynamics of the islands felt amazing like you were near an erupting volcano it was something new and something nice.
-the new gear you could buy actually felt like there was real design to it and not just copy and paste retextured items that all look similar.
-the take all feature is a halfway decent change to the great barrel 2.0 failure. Half a point awarded
-Rare took the time to actually release this dlc and have it funtioning pretty well.
Now for the negative.
- First all Rare did was with this dlc was extend already repetative gameplay and make it more difficult.
-There is also an illusion of loot being more rewarding when it all just amounts to gold to buy cosmetics so there is no point in being in devils roar beyond the commendations which none exists for turning in ashen loot.
-all the islands feel like copy paste material. None of these islands feel like they stand out from one another nothing unique to make one more enjoyable than the others. Even at the large islands all the threats of that island are exactly the same.
-the small floating outposts are pointless just random discounted items that you might as well get at full price with how easy gold is to obtain.
-the story just feels slapped in and pointless
-Finding missions in a barrel feels like a forced way to create more purpose to the new barrel system and with as numerous as message in a bottles are this feels pointless.
Overall this is just the same exact thing retextured with the new threat being the islands. So the game remains as vast as an ocean and as deep as a puddle.
