Ships attacked at port idea

  • Yes, I’m new, only been playing a couple of weeks.
Yes, I “ need to learn to fight”. I Am learning.
And yes, yes, “its a pvp pirate game”. I am aware of this.

But really who hasn’t had their ship sank when just starting? Or attacked for no reason while unloading your ship?
Who hasn’t read the pirate code in the tavern?

Yes, yes, again, I know it’s a pirate pvp game... but pirates try and steal your loot, not just sink your ship. Never heard of that sort of pirate. Not in literature, history, or film. Pirates still loot, sink you at sea if they have to...

I just wanted to throw that out in response to all the replies I have already seen on this sort of topic...

My point is, a simple solution to this problem would be an automatic bounty on anyone that attacks a ship at port.
Just at port.... on islands, at sea, those are just risks you’ll have to take.
But at port, sink that ship if you want, sure. But you get hit with an automatic bounty, 25% of which comes from your own coin purse (for ship repairs of course). And everyone knows you have a bounty on you by you having a yellow fluffy bunny sail or something equally humiliating and noticeable.
    Just an idea.
Sorry about the long winded post.

  • @earmouse I think Rare should keep their concept of no safe zones.

  • @roughleech03117 I never said safe zone, just a bounty... people have been talking about wanting bounty hunter missions, here you go.
Could even have titles and commendations for “most wanted pirate” or “sea dog the bounty hunter”.
I agree, no safe zones, but at least a deterrent or repercussions, so everyone can still enjoy the game, no matter what their play style.

  • @earmouse ok

  • Lets have them go into dept too if they don't have enough banked resource. If that's not enough then they only get a row boat until they pay their dues.

  • Now that I’m thinking about it, the bounty system could actually work as a Bilge Rat thing as well... Hunting down those bounties or even getting one is a Rat like thing to do.

  • Sometimes you got to sink the ships at outposts. Here let me park my sloop next to this nice Brig, galleon, or sloop, and Hope they don't steal from me while I'm trying to turn in. I've just turned the game on and I start at an island cuz someone sunk my ship rather then give me the chance to steal from them. It happens I'd do the same and have done it

  • @earmouse Listen, since your new, my best advice to you is this: Be prepared for an attack at all times. Don’t assume because you are at an outpost that you are safe, people can, and will attack you at any time. That’s just a part of the game. Pirates looted the ships they captured, then they typically burned them (Usually practiced by people who were pirates in secret). That’s not the case for every pirate, others sunk their ships, used them for their fleets, etc... Anyways, every pirate was unique, and while they may not be well known, I’m sure ships being attacked at a port was a common occurrence.

Now onto your whole suggestion thing, I personally hate the idea of outposts being a sort of “safe zone” or the idea that you are punished for sinking a ship there, and before you go claiming I’m a PvP junkie or something like that, let me explain. I’ll propose a scenario for you. Imagine you took SIX HOURS to complete a skull fort. (That’s an extreme exaggeration ((Hopefully)) but it works for the purpose of my example.) Now I want you to imagine if another ship rolled along, killed your crew a few times, took some the best loot from the fort and left you the scraps, then started to sail away. You attempt to chase after them, unfortunately they reach an outpost and it’s game over, they can’t be touched now. Hours of work wasted, massive amounts of loot gone with no chance to recover it. Now imagine if you had the bounty system like you suggested. You managed to sink the ship, you then recovered and sold all of your hard earned loot, only to be hunted relentlessly by the crew you sunk and PvP hungry players. See what I mean now? These kinds of solutions don’t work very well at all.
(Please Note: I have no problem with someone coming along and sinking/taking loot from myself or somebody else, that was just an example. If they manage to kill me in battle good on them.)

  • Pirates did whatever they had to in order to survive - let alone turn a profit - while running from the law on the high seas. The way Sea of Thieves works, that means sinking enemy ships and dredging whatever floats to the surface out of the water. There are no merchant ships that will surrender and let you take their booty without a fight in this game.

It also means you can't take any chances when you spy another ship at an outpost. If it's the place you need to go to turn in Merchant's loot, your best option is to just sink them, do a once-over for Mermaids, then have a bodyguard as you turn in.

  • @earmouse I like your idea. The idea that pirates needed a safe haven to sell their goods and used a code to punish those who violate it is, I think, historic for Nassau, for example. Corrupt governors offered pirates safe harbours and safe trade.

Not turning the port into a safe zone, but offering a bounty is, in my view, harmless and expedient. The bounty could be managed by the bilge rat, as a harbour master so to speak, as a play figure. There you can demand a bounty, redeem it, multiply it?
You could also offer a bonus for the one who robs the offender in return. There is a lot of excitement to be experienced!

You can extend it further: from a very high, accumulated bounty you get reward and special successes if you were not killed as a wanted person for a longer period of time. Or you can make it to the harbour yourself and pay the bounty to the ship's rat.

But if you want to prove your skills in PVP, you could use exactly this system. This would make the port less secure again - but I would find a fair compensation for that.

  • Again.... not suggesting safe zones, just bounties on attackers of ships at port...
And if you “have” to attack that ship because you don’t feel safe or seek revenge, then doing and accepting the bounty shouldn’t be any different.
You would do it knowing you will probably be chased anyways, so why not the bounty.
And I would never call you a pvp junkie, I don’t even know you.

  • @earmouse Ye chose yer pirate Life, and ye will be treated like one

  • Not sure why people complai about PvP (regardless of where). It's the only content this game has got... Unless you really enjoy fetch quests for no real purpose or reward aside from the shallow amount of cosmetics.

  • oh yes bounty wooooo!
