I always like the preview videos so much that I miss a single player mode very much. A mode with a narrative strand, similar to GTA V or Red Dead Redemption - as a single player. Wouldn't that be fantastic?
Single player story mode?
@goedecke-michel You could not be far from the truth! There has always been a narrative to follow but only if you chose to look for it; the rock paintings, the skeletons, literally everything on the islands eludes to something bigger - maybe a mythical sea creature or legendary pirate!
Otherwise just create your own narrative; this is your journey, you play by your rules - just make sure you're not messing with your own crew, that's not cool.
@spunkus-skunkus Harumph, you know the difference between GTA / Red Dead Redemption story mode versus multiplayer mode, don't you?
While a narrative story might be interesting and single player mode has been asked for now and again, this doesn't seem to be something that would fit within the game or the vision Rare have so far.
I'm a lover of lore and stories in games, don't get me wrong and we do have a certain amount of lore outside the game in the form of the Tales and Comic book series and the forthcoming novel but this image is one taken from Rare HQ...
There's also a good article which although a little old, goes into the ideas which lie behind the creation of Sea of Thieves -
@goedecke-michel I know the difference, just trying to stay positive :)
Although I can't personally message the devs or bring up any hard evidence, on multiple occasions Rare has stated that this was going to be an online multiplayer game pretty much exclusively. I doubt that you're going to find what you're looking for in Sea of Thieves right now, but if you're still keen to play then I'd suggest coming back when something meaningful gets introduced (sorry to throw shade).
Better yet, come back in a few days - I'm sure everyone's itching to get their hands on the cargo runs and explore the Forsaken Shores!
@goedecke-michel
Sea of Thieves is a multiplayer only game with a focus on player interactions, RDR/GTA are singleplayer games with tacked on multiplayer modes. They're completely different games, I doubt we'll ever see any single player content in that form as it goes completely against the vision of the game. The only thing you might be getting is narritives that add to the lore of the world or introduce new content to the game, but for the entire world not just you. You can't have player interactions when you're the only pirate in the world.
Oha, wow, slow down, everybody.
I just meant that I would like a story mode like RD or GTAV very much. I love those scripted movies and would like to play in such a story as well. I don't doubt that SoT is a multiplayer game, that it doesn't foresee something like that. It wasn't necessary to point this out with such force. I am not against multiplaying, nore do I say I was bored or the game was bad. But everytime I watch one of rares nice trailers, I think, sigh, that would be nice, wouldn't it... It is not even a demand, you know.
Not so long ago it was still called "Whenever you see a ship on the horizon, it will be a player".
Things could change, occasionally.
Just my thoughts.
@fishst1ck sagte in Single player story mode?:

You can't have player interactions when you're the only pirate in the world. That's not necessarily a contradiction in terms. Wanda and Salty already had beginnings. Some orders could be linked to a scripted accompanying story. You have to give a captain escort, for example. Or in a Fort-Raid, a hostage must be freed and safely returned. Or the fort-boss has to be caught, not killed, and delivered for a bounty. All you have to do is add handcuffs to the tool palette of cages and baskets. Or from a convoy of the admiral is to steal the flag of his ship, or a throne of gold. To steal the throne you unfortunately have to steal the whole ship... This could be wrapped up in little stories that accompany you through these adventures.
Not intended, yes of course.

I think the things you mentioned can definitely be part of the game, however it will be in the shared world not as a seperate single player mode. So while it could be more engaging than searching for clues and contain more scripted elements, I do think the focus will be on doing that with the crew and not being locked away from others.
