Report System for Toxicity

  • I understand it is typically rare to find toxic players within your own crew (thankfully). But every once in a while you get toxic players that go out of their way to ruin the experience and time for other people.

Example: last night I LFG in Xbox Live. I found someone looking for 2 people to join who had a fully stocked ship (Gun Powder barrels, Resources, etc.) I joined in and started helping him grab a few extra powder kegs. While we were doing so, another player joined his LFG and had entered the server. I went to hop on the ship when suddenly, another keg goes off next to me, blowing up my powder keg as well. Killing both me and the host of the LFG. We both spawned back in just in time to watch the ship disappear below the surface of the water. I was disappointed because it would have been an easy start to the Skelly Ship battle for me. The host was really ticked off (as anyone would be) and rage quit after that.

The guy had spent an hour or so stocking up the ship just to watch some toxic player join and completely ruin his night. I went to try and report the 3rd player on xbox live but he left the server and LFG before we could confirm his gamertag.

I just feel like this sort of behavior should be permanently banned.

  • @enginefear Ahoy matey!

While there is nothing in game, you can do this online and it is highly recommended you do so.

Even if you don't know their Gamertags, if you can give enough information Rare can track down the players and their actions from their data.

If you believe a player has been toxic in the game, you can report them to Xbox Live here. You can also submit a support ticket to Rare Player Support.

I am aware of the report system on Xbox live. However, without knowing the players gamertag it is impossible to report them. Xbox live "Recent Players" is still bugged and does not always show the recent players. You typically have to leave a session first. And Sea of Thieves is still bugged so it does not usually show the Gamer Tag for recent players in that game as well. I am going to check again tonight, but I have reported dozens of players on Xbox Live and never received any indication that action had been taken.

  • @enginefear I have edited my original post :)

Rare can look into the data of your play session if you report them this way.

The Xbox Live system works on a reputation system so while they may not get banned until a very serious offense, the likely hood that they get matchmade with positive rep players goes further down with each and every report made against them.

And Rare take this kind of behaviour very seriously and look at all reports, the more reports against a player the better, especially if they are negatively impacting many peoples games.

  • @musicmee I used the Link you suggested. I also was able to find recent players on the xbox phone app. I believe I found the player since I had an idea of what his gamertag looked like. I reported him and hopefully it will go up for review.

    Thank you!

  • @enginefear For future reference, if you have this happen, use your "capture" option and record the last 3 or 5 minutes. I have been able to find Gamertags by reviewing footage. Also, you may catch the toxic moment to attach to a complaint.

  • I once had 2 sloop players ruin an otherwise fun and exciting experience not because they relentlessly hunted us down and sank us over and over again, but because as they did so, they verbally dehumanized us with racial slur after racial slur nonstop. Now imagine that they might do this to children that play SoT! So, I did my due diligence and reported both abusers to XBL and Rare.

  • @longlivecayde6 I did find the Gamertag now. But i wish there was a way to send clips directly to xbox live or SoT. Its such a pain to try and convert it over to a file that can be uploaded into the website.
