Rowboat mechanics

  • How do you think the mechanics and controls will be for the rowboat and how they will attach to our ships? I'm thinking left and right trigger to row. Press only one and the bow steers in that direction If the boats are hoisted I'm thinking about the same mechanics as the raising and lowering the anchor. Or if its towed I'm guessing a simple press of the X button to attach it to the side of our ships. What do you guys think? what about the view. Is it doing to be 1st person and we actually can't see what's in front of us since we'll be facing rearward, or do you think they'll go 3rd person for this

  • @e11evenbsouth I'm hoping that raising it to attach it to the ship will be like an anchor while dropping it would be a simple push of a button then it plops into the water. As for the movement I hope they make it where one person has to tap really fast while the other person with you steers!

  • @e11evenbsouth As row boats will be found at islands, I get the impression that we won't be able to attach them to our ships. rather, we'll use the row boat at one particular island, then leave it behind as we make our way to the next island, then use the new one there.

I hope I'm wrong as it'll be cool to launch the row boat from our ships, I just didn't get that impression from what I've seen so far.

  • @e11evenbsouth
About sailing on one I think it will be a one man paddling with dual paddles.
For Xbox controller I was thinking about rolling analogs. Left one for left paddle and right one for right paddle.
But I can't find a fairmatch for PC players about this mechanics...
So probably it will be about pressing the triggers on controller and left/right mouse click on PC mouse.

Attaching to our ships, I'm seeing it coming as rope option to the back of the ship and then tow it along the way.

  • @luciansanchez82 yes it will be found around the islands, but I'm pretty sure they mentioned we would be able to attach it to our ships.

  • @nunoazuldimeter Ah cool, must have missed that. Cheers!

Here is what they said at SDCC:

    Row boat

It will come in Forsaken Shores. They want the steering to be as physical and tangible as possible where players will be able to control independently the oars and maintaining the turning with left or right oar.
You will be able to attach the row boat on your ship.

  • @skulliah that's why I'm thinking it'll be the use of the triggers or bumpers. Pressing them at the same time has you go forward press just the right has your turn right etc. I'm anxious to find out

  • @e11evenbsouth I think it would be the most intuitive way to do it with the triggers for controllers and keys for PC players. I wish in a way to be able also to have one player per oar, could bring some funny moments with yer crew!

  • I'm with @LucianSanchez82 on this.
I believe they will be found on the shores of most islands.

I love @e11evenBsouth 's mechanic of facing backwards and using the triggers to control the individual oars. More immersive the better. It would be even better if 2 players could get an oar each.

I also hope the sharks can knock it around much like the meg does to the larger ships. This would really add to the excitement!

Finally I can't wait to try and row across the map. Or at least try!

  • @e11evenbsouth I think if they are to be hoisted up it would be done by pulleys just like the sails.

Only the galleon would be able to carry a rowboat.
For all we know they could be towed behind the main vessel.

  • @dreadpirate9200 when they introduce the merchant voyage where you need to bring rum back to the outposts. I'm going to collect as many as possible in my rowboat and just row around the world drunk
