New types of skeletons for Sea of Thieves

  • I had some I ideas for quite a while, to increase the variety of skeletons on the game, with their own mechanics and abilities.

Here are some of my ideas:

Magma Skeletons (I think this could only spawn on the area of The Devil's Roar):
This type of skeletons will look like a shadow skeleton but it will also have various cracks across their bodies filled with magma.

Mechanics: After a short period of time after they spawn, the skeletons will burst into flames, all players who are too close to the skeletons will take extra damage due to the fire, the fire can be extinguished by throwing water to the skeletons, or by luring them into the water, however, if the fire is extinguished, the skeletons will turn into stone (this will not kill them and they will still be able to move) and become as hard as a Gold Skeleton, they will burst into flames again once the effect of the water is gone.

Crystal Skeletons: Like the name says, this skeletons will be made out of a transparent crystal.

Mechanics: This type of skeletons are tougher than a Normal, Plant, and Shadow skeletons but not as tought as Gold skeletons, still, they can be easily killed by playing a shanty with an instrument near them, this will cause them to start vibrating until they shatter like other skeletons when they die.

Ice Skeletons (This skeletons would only spawn on a new artic area that I call: The Frostbitten Islands):
This type of skeletons would look like normal skeletons, but they would have some of the bones of their bodies replaced with ice bones that glow blue light, and they would have icicles hanging from their bodies.

Mechanics: This skeletons regenerate in the cold, like plant skeletons do when they are on water, to stop them from regenerating you would have to you a new item: The Torch, to warm them up and make them more vulnerable.

Grief Skeletons (this skeletons would spawn on the threee main areas of the map, but will have a higher chances of spawning on one of the concet areas that the developers created: The Sea of Sorrow):
This type of skeletons would have dark grey bones and they would have mist coming out of their bodies like the Ferry Man of The Ferry of the Damned, the mist would have a light grey color, this skeletons would float instead of walk, also like the Ferry Man, and they would be constantly crying, making sounds like The chest of Sorrow.

Mechanics: Upon getting close to a player, this skeletons will scream loudly, launching the player away from the skeletons, and making the player take damage when they impact on a surface, this skeletons are weak to melee weapons but have plenty of resistance against long range weapons, this includes The Pistol, The Blunderbuss, and The Eye of Reach, however this doesn't include Cannons.

This are some of my ideas of new skeletons, if you have any ideas for other types of skeletons, tell me, I would love to know what your ideas are.

  • They are all nice additions but I think some of the types shouldn't have weapons to make them a little weaker.

  • @becausescience1 I see what you mean, maybe remove the chance of having weapons for the Grief Skeletons, instead their scream would be their only weapon, and would always cover their faces when the are not attacking.

It would be also a good idea to give the Magma Skeletons only swords, so they have to get close to you no matter what so they can do extra damage.

  • @arqueus1 I like your ideas but could we just replace "skeletons" with perhaps AI pirates?

The game has way too many skeletons as it is.
Any other threat but in a different form would always be a welcomed addition.

  • @admiral-rrrsole I know that there are many types of skeletons, but like I mentioned, the majority of this skeletons would exclusively spawn on the areas that I mentioned, so they would be the only threat there, you wouldn't be forced to fight them on the main areas.

But if I had to change something, I would change the Grief Skeletons for something else, like a Banshee or a ghost pirate.

  • @arqueus1 I'm not saying that the game has too many skeleton types.
I'm saying it has too many skeletons period.
It needs AI pirates or ghosts of pirates, native headhunters or cannibals.

Your suggested ideas could work just the same with full bodied AI instead of it always being skeletons.

  • @admiral-rrrsole I like the cannibal idea. You could just be walking around and see a skull on the end of a pole then suddenly get ambushed by a bunch of tribesmen.

  • @admiral-rrrsole maybe some sort of Magma golem instead of the Magma Skeletons, an Ice Creature instead of the Ice Skeletons, and a Banshee instead of the Grief skeletons.

  • @becausescience1
Yeah Try to get to the skull on the totem pole and all of these natives with bones through their noses come charging out of the foliage with spears and primitive axes (axe head made from sharpened rock).

    @Arqueus1 Now we're talking.
You still have your creative ideas and it takes us a little way from skeletons, skeletons and even more skeletons.

Still throw some ruthless AI pirates into the mix. :o)
Perhaps on the existing islands to guard their buried treasure.

  • @admiral-rrrsole
There could be little npc native villages. The chief could give you quests.

  • @becausescience1 Sounds cool. :o)

I have suggested something similar with regular island natives or campers paying us to rid their island of cannibals and the like.

Large islands such as Thieves Haven would be ideal.
They already have camp sites on many islands. It could even be a neighboring island they need cleared.
NPC sailors / merchants could also live in their shipwrecks beached on some of the islands too.
Besides putting contracts out on the threatening natives they could also request crates of planks and bananas or pigs and chickens.

Head hunters or cannibals could reside in the already established caves or, as you've suggested, in a small village of huts.

  • @admiral-rrrsole Perhaps for the crystal threat, it could be a crew of pirates that instead of becoming skeletons, they got cursed by a magic crystal and turned into crystal themselves, and they would spawn randomly like the skeletons that spawn randomly on the three main areas.
