I was just looting a sunken ship when I realized how bad the loot was, and I thought to myself what if some of the sunken ships had evil npc mermaids? That protect more valuable treasure than normal sunken ships? That would add a challenge to a higher reward!
Better Sunken Ship Loot and Evil Mermaids!
@capt-soul-beard Yep seems like every patch the loot changes from great to good to worse to why did i bother to stop. I can agree with the evil mermaids but there would have to be a number limit like one mermaid npc per treasure item on the ship. If not then it would get out of hand like the sharks do currently with the skellie ship loot.

Kinda reminds me of one of the early artwork that was shown off. I can definitely see that working as an idea...
The last couple of shipwrecks that my crew and I have hit barely had anything in them. We ended up using them for supplies to take on the skeleton crews. It would be nice to have better odds of getting loot from sunken ships. It shouldn't be that hard to program. They could make ships that are closer to the surface have the more minimal treasure and the ships that are completely underwater has more valuable treasure.
@iceman-0007 I was thinking like maybe 3-5 evil mermaids per ship depending on the quality of the loot? And maybe 1 "Shamanesque" mermaid that uses some sort of dark magic to heal the rest of them (This could be related to the cursed statues in some way). That would make people co-ordinary attacks to form some sort of plan like 'Take care of the healer first'
@capt-soul-beard True but this could play into forsaken shores that's coming out when they finally decide to do something with the potion merchant above the OoS merchant.
There's an awful lot of information around mermaids in the Comic-con panel from way back in 2016 - around 30 mins in and the image from above as well!
I've found cursed chests on sunken wrecks. I wish there were more trinkets like cups and other gold hoarders loot found around the static shipwrecks that are actually on the bottom of the sea. They made more sunken treasure for the event that time but haven't seen much since. It was a great addition.
Sunken Ships are a mixed bag. There have been occasions where I've walked away with tons of loot and sometimes, just a foul skull.
Once, I found two exquisite silks, a rare tea, a hateful and a villainous skull, and a captain's chest on one sunken ship.
I wish there was more, and more apparent, loot around the mermaid statues. It would give more of a reason to explore underwater - which is something I know they want, but right now it's mostly a waste of time.
