Where the Devil's Roar may be

  • Ahoy Maties!
Next week we're gonna be hearing alot about:
    Forsaken Shores
But until then I'm gonna make some predictions on where the Devil's Roar will be on the Map. (If ya don't know what the Devil's Roar is, it's the new part of the world coming in the Forsaken Shores content update)

Okay so, here's what we know:
The Devil's Roar will be about two thirds the size of the current Sea of Thieves map. (Let that sink in)
And it'll be a geologically unstable region.
    Rocks!

Alright so your all caught up now.
But where do ya fit something that's two thirds the size of the Sea of Thieves?
    Map

"Off the map of course! Give your brain a chance Mr. Palooggoo!"
Ah, but in which direction off the map?

The way I see it there's only 1 logic choice:
    Prediction

"Why South East of Devil's Ridge Ooggoo?"
Well, the world 'Devil' in Devil's Ridge should give ya a little something to gone on, But here's why I've come to the conclusion that it'll be there:
    Marking

As you can see by this map it clearly says Devil's Shroud.
And the Rare devs have stated that in Forsaken Shores The Devil's Shroud will be lifted & you'll be able to travel to the Devil's Roar.

There's Way too many 'Devil's' references in that part of the world for the Devil's Roar not to be South East of Devil's Ridge.
    Rowboat lava

Well mates, where do you think Devil's Roar will be?
Until then I rest my case.

  • Where'd they say it was gonna be 2/3 the size of the entire current map?

  • @dekeita
I heard it from Captain Falcore.

  • @sgt-palooggoo hmm....

Btw the devil's shroud surronds the entire map, so it being marked in that corner isn't really that meaningful.

It would kinda make sense for it to be like not particularly deep, but the entire length of the map, maybe even the entire length of two sides meeting at a corner if it's gonna be that big.

  • Is this map old? Marauders Arch and Krakens fall are switched and there is no Galleons grave.

This was a map released by Rare before the game launched.

    @dekeita
Yeah, the Shroud does surround the sea I did consider that, it's just this particular map has the Devil's Shroud by name there.
So I figured it might be in that direction.

What it'll probably be is what you said just the map extending downwards.

  • Great post and some awesome speculation with back up about what may be coming!
Whilst I like the idea of the new area being located on the existing physical map, it has been stated, more than once that it is a choice to travel here... so perhaps we will find ourselves transported as we head through the shroud?
This would mean the Forsaken Shores could be off of the current map entirely in a new instance.

A small thin area doesn't compute with the idea of volcanoes being deadly enough to require row boats.bolded text

    Thanks lad!
Well, I think I've heard Rare talk about how it's gonna be an expansion to the current map but players won't start there.

  • @sgt-palooggoo What I've heard - from Chapman, I believe - is that the Devil's Shroud will be receding to reveal the Forsaken Shores and that you won't spawn there - it's something you will prepare to enter. I doubt it will be a separate instance, but will be an extension of the existing map... at least, that's my hope. My guess is that it will be to the South - easier to increase numbers on a map than to double letters.

  • @sgt-palooggoo
These are great speculations. I'm fairly convinced you're right.

Yeah from what I heard from Chapman you'll have to sail there, not teleport, and Devil's ridge does make sense it would be on the "ridge" or edge of the zone. We'll find out for sure in 5 weeks (hopefully not delayed).

  • @sgt-palooggoo My understanding was that the Devils Shroud is where the Sea of Thieves takes place outside of the real world... kinda like the Bermuda Triangle.

  • I would guess it will be east or north of Marauder's Arch. Based on what I've heard of the new zone, it feels like it would dovetail very nicely with the visual tone of the Wilds. It sounds very oppressive, which the seas and sky Wilds could transition into. After traveling from deep within Devil's Roar, then through the Wilds, just imagine how relaxing finally reaching the Shores of Plenty and Ancient Isles will feel.

  • Wasnt it confirmed somewhere westward at some point a while back?

  • @sgt-palooggoo might be a bit late to this thread, but on the Skeleton Ships map tables you can see the devils roar, it looks like its going to be all along the right side of the map

  • @omega-131313 Nice catch!

Wow, I need a screen shot of that!

Haha, your my new favorite sailor mate!
    Good work!
I can run so much speculation with this!

  • We need better screenshots. And preferably a comparison to the maps in player ships. Because I'm struggling to match up where islands in the Wilds should be to the map in the skele ships.

Well, I think I've heard Rare talk about how it's gonna be an expansion to the current map but players won't start there.

Any DLC is welcomed especially a bigger map but I hope that they do not make it easy for a camper with cursed cnnonballs waiting for you to return past a known point of entry only to be blasted and lose everything. What I am trying to say is even with the other DLC there were campers waiting to attack just because everyone knew the exact spot most people had to be for the timed DLC. Not really sure what they can do about it and I'm all for PvP but not for giving lazy pirates an easy target while trying to enjoy something new. Just really want it to feel like an unknown adventure and outcome instead of it feeling like I'm going to the ATM machine to turn around and be mugged for 1000th time. Oh well sorry for going on, just some hopes for a better DLC adventure and who knows what it'll bring. Like your ideas on this.

  • That map is upside down. Across the bottom the of the pic you can see w x y z upside down and an island that looks vaguely like Marauder’s Arch. On the other corner (bottom right) you can see what looks like Smuggler’s Bay. Below that (higher in the pic), on either side of what looks like Sunken Grove, are two islands that look like Galleon’s Grave and Daggertooth Outposts. I think it is a map of the world that is distorted but similar to our own maps.

EDIT: Wait, I see a smaller island that might better represent Marauder’s Arch with a huge island north of it. Wow! I also wonder about what is circled on the map.

  • @captn-stormrage
I hear ya mate, but I don't think camping will be a profitable business after the Forsaken Shores campaign is over because not as many people will be in the Devil's Roar after its been out for a bit.

Huh, I think your right about the Skeleton Ship map being a twisted version of our maps.
    Well, back to drawing board.

  • @captn-stormrage Actually, in the comics, when you enter the Sea of Thieves you're camped by the ships that are yet there, so whats the problem of get inside an area that receive you with cannon fire and destruction? I think is very climactic for a hard journey

  • lets wait and see i cant play cursed sails but in forsaken shores i go with my 100%
And yes al probes target in this Island Devils Ridge i stay tuned with all notices about this update hehe.

Yah I was gonna mention that too, but I wouldn't say confirmed. I believe what your refering too was an offhand remark from Craig Duncan.

I dunno, obviously he has access to the ongoing development of the game, but I'm not sure I would assume he's hands on enough with the minutia of it to assume that's accurate.

  • @personalc0ffee I think this is what Craig Duncan's comment was actually about though, he was saying it'll just be part of the map not some special place only accessible via a portal.

  • @dekeita said in Where the Devil's Roar may be:

Yeah, highly doubt there's a single campable point of entry.

I'd imagine it'd be like trying to camp Ancient Isles entrance.

    @dekeita
I heard it from Captain Falcore.

And he has never provided any source for this. He claimed it was stated at SDCC but they never mentioned the size at all. Grinds my gears when people throw out 'facts' like that with no basis.

  • In Forsaken Shores they will introduce Face Paint and some „Wild Looking“-Clothing Sets I’m #hyped

On the 6 Tavern challenge stream on Tuesday, Mike Chapman said it will be 1/3 of the size of the current map, so equal to the the current regions.
