Curses / Magical Items

  • I had an idea, that, well there are certain items, or things in the game where you could buy or acquire by mission or extreme chance, these items / things would do different things, some purely cosmetic, other give you boosts, but also may take something away, or maybe even some bad curses that ware off over time. For example, like maybe a chest where if you took any treasure from it you are cursed, and at night you turn into a skeleton, and have the same health but you can't swim, and can't drown and can only walk on the bottom of the ocean, and sharks would not bother you. And to release the curse put the treasure you took back. Or curses you could buy from lets say Order of Souls, like a necklace that if you put it on makes you immune to cursed cannonballs. For an example of a bad curse, lets say you steal some treasure that was cursed, and it made you sink when you tried to swim, and it could only be released by doing a certain quest, or putting it back. This is all just an idea I had though.

  • Just to say, this is for instance. First one is, as some people may think inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean. But these are just examples, a curse could do anything, bad, good, or cosmetic, matters on what one.

  • It's a good idea, but Rare won't do it simply because certain spells/curses would give other players an edge over you. They want a complete new player to have the same basis as someone who is pirate legend. That's why every weapon in the game has the same parameters.

I liked this part although it would be a blessing rather than a curse.
Since the Cursed Sails arrived I often see my fellow crew members as skeletons. It lasts for quite a while, until they re-spawn or swim.
A bug I'm certain, but strangely enough the others don't see the effected crew member the same way.
Other people have experienced this too and posted about it here.
Below are screenshots from three different game sessions I've had with three different people.

Never did the other crew member(s) see the same thing.

As for your other idea "cursed necklace" I think that would be called an anti-curse or antidote for curses.
While I loathe the curse cannon balls, I don't think anyone should be immune to them.

  • I get you all, and I understand how this could become a problem.

Sea of Thieves should add some cosmetic curses that turn you into a skeleton or give you iron skin. It would be cool if they added another melee weapon such as a club that is slower but higher damage than the cutlass. It could have some cool skins. But what I mainly want is a perk system where you can choose at least 2 and I have some suggestions. A perk called Ironclad that increases your maximum health by like 10 percent but makes you a little slower. This is so you are not too op and have a negative affect with the perk. A perk called Eagle-eye that increases range of all weapons but decrease reload speed. A perk called hardy that gives health regeneration that’s about one point per tick but makes you do less damage. A perk that increases attack speed with the sword and the guns shoot/ reload faster but have less range or less ammo. And others can be created but these sound pretty balanced. Those last two perks could be called swift and gunslinger.

  • I think you should get buffs applied towards fighting skellies. Like damage, attack speed, ammo capacity, ????. Also shovel and fishing pole should be usable as melee weapon
