An Elevator to the Crows Nest

  • I think it would be a great idea to see an elevator for all ship types. Everone stores their gunpowder barrels in the crows nest, so why not add something that you can put one of any item in (Gunpowder, Chest, Skull, Chicken Coop, Etc.) and lift from another rope with a pulley, it would get to the top twice as fast as climbing the ladder, when it gets to the top it would teleport to a singular stack at the top. The Pirate would then let go of the rope and it would fall back down to fill up again.

With this, Rare could also make a pirate not able to drop an item from the crows nest a pirate would need a crewmate to go up there and load the item and the pirate operating the pulley could drop it and bring it back down. In order to avoid issues, on the sloop and brigantine, there would also be the option to move the rope from the top and bottom. If a pirate was to bring up the rope to the top empty, it would be four times as fast as climbing a ladder.

Another Idea is when bringing a gunpowder barrel down, it would explode if you dropped the rope and let it fall. this would have more balance for people wanting to get multiple barrels out really fast and give another ship time to react.

A pirate at the top of the crows nest could also have the ability to ride the rope down and would be faster than climbing down the ladder and less dangerous than jumping off.

Something else that could be implemented is instead of blocking pirates completely from dropping things out of the crows nest, the gunpowder barrels would explode, and all other items would have a chance to bust a hole in the ship based on the "weight" Rare would give it.

    TL;DR

    • Add an elevator (rope pulley) to bring items up and down from crows nest
    • If a pirate is not careful, things might explode or bust a hole in the ship
    • The ability to ride the rope down if a pirate is up there.

EDIT: This is just a quality of life addition and is not an important core feature.
EDIT 2: Clarification that it is a ROPE elevator.

  • @barpetpc Can we have citation on elevators existing on pirate ships?

    This isn't space.

  • There is no need to complicate an already functioning system. Seems like way more effort for such small returns.

This is an example of the elevator I was talking about

  • But...why?

That is true, it is just a good quality of life addition.

Why are you trying to get me to download something?

  • @barpetPC The rightmost icon above the post editor is the image embed button, you can use that in the future to add pictures. : ) I edited your post to embed it.

Can I please have a citation of ghost ships with skeleton crews shooting cannonballs that make people drunk? Sea of Thieves isn't a realistic game, and therefore it shouldn't be restricted to adding in objects that actual pirates used.

The OP had an idea which, although not super necessary, would still be a nice addition to the ships. I don't think that making barrels explode for dropping them is a good idea though.

Alright, so you won't mind people requesting lightsabers, cell phones, jet skis, and other stupid features that obviously don't belong in this setting, which is obviously taking place well before modern technology.

    Got it.

No, but I wouldn't mind you actually reading the post, in which he clearly describes a rope and pully bucket to move loot up to the crows nest. A perfectly reasonable amount of technology for the era I would say.

  • The crows nest was never intended to be a cargo hold. Maybe a better solution would be to stop letting kegs be stored there.

Yes, that is another good Idea I would be open to, carrying something that can deal that much damage should be a risk for someone to carry.

I'm all for more interaction and more resources such as rope or really any other interaction mechanics that can happen on ship.

a rope and pulley system could do a lot more around a ship than just elevate.

Which really isnt needed. But interactions and mechanics are.

I would love if you could: tie yourself off to the boat with rope,(for when u get knocked off) swing from ropes. Tie a enemy pirate up with rope giving A short stun lock for them being slow and tie up able. Rope. But elevator system... ehh. ACBF had those little pulley systems. If done right and not an eyesore. Interactions and mechaincs

Yes, I would love to see ropes hanging from the masts to swing to enemy ships just out of jumping range, maybe even a tie down point on an enemy ship so they would be stuck side-by-side for a period of time to have an epic fight between ships. overall more interaction on ships is better.
