Sea Monster

  • So far we've seen a Kraken, a Megalodon and everyone is pretty sure that a Sea Serpent is on its way. I have a few ideas for after that. Mostly Asian in origin because as I said in a previous topic it's pretty overlooked, but for some their origins can be ambiguous and at least one is a European that has definitely been overlooked.

Nessie-Yes I know that she is supposed to be a lake monster but her true habitat would be the ocean. In fact there is a legend of sailors finding the remains of another of her species still rotting.

Giant Sea Turtle-Asian in origin but they probably aren't the only ones with this idea. See Avatar: TLA or that third Disney Aladdin movie for examples.

Shen-Magic Clam that causes hallucinations without even having to eat it.

Jin Chan-Cute name considering it's a three-legged bullfrog that guards treasure.

Jiaolong and Panlong-Two different types of Sea Dragons. Sea Serpents are in demand.

Water Monkey-Evil little **** that likes to drown people.

Kappa-Similar to Water Monkey but not as inherently evil and extremely polite regardless. Think Micheal Bay Turtles ugly minus the steroids.

Ningyo-So apparently it tastes good but also brings storms and bad luck. I'm just giving some ideas for SOT. Do what you will.

Namazu- Giant evil catfish. Starting to see why they get such a bad rep.

Ikuchi-Sea serpent that is so long it takes three hours to get around. Drowns ships and sailors in oil it secretes.

Sazae-Oni- T******e stealing Crustacean. What age range is this game rated for again?

Isonade- So there's already regular sharks and a Megalodon, but how about a giant shark with metal barbs? Seriously I'm just spitballing here.

Umi Bozu-Giant monk who appears at night to dump barrels of water into ships. Honestly this would be hilarious. If nothing else PLEASE add this one to the game.

  • I think we have enough threats on the sea at the moment. Let the developers focus on more factions, activities and voyages for all ye swabbies and Pirate Legends alike.

  • Maybe someday they'll roll out an Asian sea monster along with an Asian junk vessel and an Asian line of outfits and gear. I'd love that. Someday. :)

  • @brainship23 Nothing against Asian sea monsters but Rare should add a giant crab and Scylla first.

I think a giant crab will be very likely indeed if you look at the rock paintings on certain islands

    crab

  • @crimsonraziel yeah there's a ton of monster lore to use. I was just spitballing cause the only one I was seeing people suggest is Sea Serpent and I'm on an Asian fixation right now. Still Scylla and Charybdis would be cool to see.

  • @fishst1ck Those paintings are the reason why I feel they should, but I'm not that confident they will.

@Brainship23 I'd like to see Charybdis too, but I think it would be a bit boring gameplay wise.

  • @crimsonraziel
They also have paintings for the Kraken and Megalodon though.

  • @crimsonraziel you think fighting past a giant whirlpool and a wall of teeth is boring! My God what do you do for excitement!

  • @brainship23 How do you fight a whirlpool?

This. We have kraken, meg and soon skeleton ships as random encounters. We don’t need another sea monster as long as the original one is not fixed. The new area in Forsaken Shores can come with a new type of emergent threat, but the current seas are dangerous enough.

  • @crimsonraziel I imagine it's more like caribean where you have to fight the currents to stay out of the middle. Possibly while also fighting other ships. So it couldn't be too strong, but not so weak that you could sail right through it like with the Kraken or the Meg.
