Voting on voyages.

  • DISCLAIMER - These aren’t considered problems, just suggestions.

I personally have came across a few small annoyances when it comes to voting on voyages; these prove not to harm the game, they are just redundant problems that could be taken out.

    1. Why does me proposing a voyage not automatically have me vote for said voyage?

    2. Why is there not the option to remove your vote from a voyage if you don’t want the voyage to go on?

    3. Why do I have to cancel a voyage just to propose another voyage? Why can’t I just propose a voyage next to an existing active voyage, once that voyage gets the votes the other voyage will be taken down and the new one begin?

    4. Why don’t players locked in the brig have the option to remove a voyage remotely without the need to vote (Yes there would be an effective infinite voyage glitch if done properly, but I’m sure some sort of tracking system on usernames could prevent this) on the voyage, this would let the “trapped” player have a guarantee as to know that the people doing his bought voyage won’t be able to do it without him.

I don’t really think these are problems per say, they could be seen as improvements; I just think they’re annoyances to me and some friends personally.

Because it's a proposal. Proposing a voyage isn't the same as voting on it. Sometimes with a crew of three I'll propose a voyage and let my crewmates vote on it. That way I know the result is unanimous.

    1. Why is there not the option to remove your vote from a voyage if you don’t want the voyage to go on?

Once you've all voted on a voyage and accepted it, one member of the crew shouldn't be able to cancel it without a second vote. You committed to that voyage. You shouldn't be able to change your mind and remove the voyage willy-nilly. If you want to cancel, you have to vote.

See above. You must vote to cancel a voyage to which everyone's already committed.

If you're locked in the brig, it's safe to assume your crewmates have decided your input is unwanted. Sorry. You can't "magically" change the crews' minds while in the brig. You have to actually agree to change plans. Pirate crews operate under democratic principles. No single pirate, not even the captain, can decide for all. Popular vote rules. Maybe you can persuade your crewmates to let you out, but until then...sorry, Charlie.

I agree with your opinion on my 4th statement, but I don’t think you clearly understood my 2nd and 3rd.

The idea of my 2nd statement is that you would be able to remove your vote from a voyage that is still on the table, not one in progress.

The idea of my 3rd statement is that you could propose a voyage whilst another voyage is in progress, you could then vote on said voyage to cancel the ongoing voyage without going through all the other steps you’d normally have to do, it would just save time.

  • @genuine-heather And yes I agree with your opinion on my first statement to an extent, for the majority of players, proposing a voyage means that they want to do that voyage. In your case, with my other suggested addition, you could remove your vote from the voyage and let your friends decide.

  • I agree to much of these oddities around the voyage table.
I would also want to add, why does cancelling a voyage delete the voyage outright?
I paid good hard earned gold for that voyage!
Can't I just put that voyage back in my inventory to propose again at a later time?

Same goes for bottled maps, messages, etc. If I don't use that voyage in that server session....it's gone!?
Why can't I find and collect these voyages....and use them weeks later...IRL?

I see where you're coming from. I don't see these as things that really need to be changed, but no harm in mentioning them. :)

  • @genuine-heather Hence why I put the disclaimer at the beginning of he post, they’d just make he whole process seem more refreshing! :)

  • One of the things I have wanted for a while is the ability to disable voyage voting. It feels like a nuisance when you sail solo or with a crew of regulars.
