Tonight as we were getting supplies from Dagger Tooth other people on my crew told me I had suddenly turned into a skeleton.
I have a couple of screenshots in my activity feed if someone can tell me how to post it here.
After a few minutes I turned back into a normal pirate.
Has this happened to anyone else?
It has happened to me a few times, but only for a few seconds.
As for sharing here, If you’re on Xbox go to Xboxdvr.com. There you can enter your gamer tag and see all of your screenshots and captures, and save them right to your phone
I’ve have seen two version of that bug first hand. The first of which was as you described, merely a skeleton. I normally see it happen when someone spawns on the Ferry and they don’t fully load in. The other form was a bit more interesting. It loaded them in as a skeleton, but their accessories and clothes also loaded in so they appeared more as a skeleton pirate rather than just skeleton. It loaded in their skin about half a minute after they spawned.
Personally, as another commeny mentioned, it would be cool to see it more as a feature. I’d love to go around as a skeletal form of my pirate, or ghost form, even if that meant essentially painting a huge bull’s eye on myself.
@pirateswill I had this a few months ago. I stayed this way until I logged off. My character had no animations but I could still move. Also my name tag changed to something random but I cannot remember what it was.
It's not something that's truly game-breaking, unless you're trying to hide of course, but it's still a bug that's affecting (effecting?) a lot of people. Has anyone found any common threads as to why this occurs in the first place yet? You would think that with so many people experiencing it, we would've solved the bug by now...
It's some kind of bug in the player model / cosmetic streaming code which causes some players to not get or load the correct player model and/or cosmetics you are currently wearing.
Whenever you get within render distance of a new player, they load this skeleton model first and then the body and clothing. Usually this happens fast enough that you don't notice, but if there is a network hiccup or other issue with loading this data, they get stuck as a skeleton until something causes a reload.
Its basically a placeholder to prevent invisible players if the losing fails.
