Change player name colors

  • So look your in an alliance and a crew rocks up to sink you they board you the allies are helping you IT IS VERY HARD TO TELL WHO IS WHO so if you could keep allies as white and change un-allied crews to red or something that would be helpful

  • I do agree that is an issue, but I don't think making enemy pirates red is the best idea since certain enemy NPCs also have red names Making allied pirates names blue would be a better solution in my opinion.

  • ANY distinction you’d have thought would be necessary. A simple QOL adjustment please Rare.

  • Or just check your map table? It shows allied ships, so if a ship rolls up on you and your map is showing nobody nearby, they're probably hostile.

  • @supriseautopsy
Oh yes... Please during a hostile battle and you and your alliances are trying to help one another make sure to take the time to check the map so you can get stabbed in the back by a hostile? Oh And don't forget that during the skele ship battles anyone that rolls up may just want to join in on the action ... Yes... Please just check the map 😂😂 most games give the allies a separate color for a reason this person's request is very simple. During battle it can get very confusing on who your enemy and who your alliance is .

  • @m0ther0fall3vil seeing as how you can almost see ships completely across the map, I'm not seeing how nobody on the crew would have time to check the map table between spotting a ship and it being close enough to board you. And if it turns out the crew you allowed to board is not your alliance friend, it will be obvious pretty quickly. PvP is still a factor of this game, not paying attention is on your crew. If you're attacked during a skelly battle its going to be a clustermess anyways. Seems like the devs left friendly fire between alliances deliberately tbh.

  • It’s not the ships. It’s the people. In the heat of battle with people running around all over the place a different colour name plate would be useful for allies, crew members, non aggressive pirates and then pirates that become hostile changing colour. Like every other game out there.

  • @gdb071 If Rare decides that the game MUST require alliances for these multi-crew events, since the Hungering Deep, then make them true alliances.
Nobody has asked for friendly fire to be turned off between alliances, just knowing who is in on the alliance would be enough and all that has been asked.

I've suggested blue gamer tags for alliances months ago, well before Cursed Sails or even keg skeletons at forts, etc.
It's just common sense to know friend from foe but without uniforms when one drops out of the game and is replaced with another am I supposed to just shoot unknown names?

  • @gdb071 said in Change player name colors:

@tyburn-ketch people come on ships. Can't make this stuff up.
This forum's threads consist for about 80% of people demanding gameplay to be adjusted to match their incompetence.

Stop asking to take take the soul out if this game please.

Whilst I agree with you that the soul of the game should remain I’d like to ask if you’d be happy with, say for instance a game like world of tanks, not having different colours for the enemy? Just shoot at anything that moves?

There’s realism and then there are games.

  • @mayorsam01 Yes please add color changes. This should have been part of the alliance system but change all the colors of allies to blue from white, but i like the idea of a pirate name plate changing to red for a short time if he does a certian amount of damage to you or fellow crew if not when flat out killing you. It's gets to hetic inbattle to not have a better Freind or Foe system. At give us a way to mark allies and freinds. Maybe with the spyglass?

  • @gdb071 People can join an alliance whilst we're in the middle of a battle. The game doen't allow me to check a list of names in the alliance and they may not be close enough to see gamer tags. But you board my ship and I assume that you are a threat to me and my crew so I act upon it.
There has to be a better way and this thread has the common sense idea for it.

  • @gdb071 Would you fight a war without uniforms, a way to identify friend from enemy?

  • @gdb071 Right then, by your logic all player gamer tags should be the same colour, even for your own crew.
Let's all follow America's war history by mistakenly shooting our own soldiers. Good plan.

  • @gdb071 said in Change player name colors:

@admiral-rrrsole ridiculous analogy. Being killed is nothing in this game.in an alliance not even your ship sinking is a thing, just sail back.so yeh just asking for a safe space again like 80% of this forum.

Are we even speaking the same language? What's with the links?

Edit: Although there is very little penalty to pay for dying in the game it could mean the difference of defeating the challenge or not. And as everyone is so trigger happy that accidental killing could mean the alliance is replaced with vengeance.

Asking for a coloured gamer tag for alliances is NOT like asking for God mode.

  • "IT IS VERY HARD TO TELL WHO IS WHO"

And this is why it should stay as it is. It brings an element of uncertainty to alliances and allows for sneeky tactics

  • I read of arguments about name colors and how fast a crew member can check the map, why not start with a simple yet mostly missed function: Alliance chat. I may only have played for a few weeks now but I found it interesting that even if you had a crewmember blast himself to a island as you past to pick up materials (cannon balls and planks mostly) you could still hear him tell you from halfway across the world map he found loot and is running from a skeleton with a gunpowder barrel , yet even though a alliance can scare away small thieving sloops(when together or near by) you can't hear when someone in your alliance needs help. I don't want to hear my best repairman I could offer tell me "There's a sloop fireing cannons at this ship and the captain and crew just left me to repair as they lowered anchor." I should have already heard from the captain or part of the crew "I see a non-allied sloop, what should we do?" Then I could help assess the issues

    • What's their ship type.
    • What supplies are available
    • Are they transporting treasure
    • And how long do they have to last for my crew or alliance fleet to show up and rain cannon fire on the enemy ship trying to kill not only my crewmember but also fellow team.
~Sorry that was long but I think it proves my point.
  • @admiral-rrrsole No I wouldn't fight a war without a uniform. That's why you can ask the alliance members to put on a uniform, or at least something that stands out (particular hat, sailor jacket, no shoes). Or check their gamertags before sailing off, some are weird but it shouldn't be too hard to remember 6-8 pirates' names. Or join a private party on console or a dsicord chat. The workarounds are available. I really think the devs thought about highlighting allies names, and decided against it on purpose. It gives PvP an edge, and a strategic opportunity for sneaky enemy pirates. If they change it so that there are ally name colors, I won't complain about PvP dying or anything dramatic, but again I think for now it was a deliberate move.

  • @gdb071

    @gdb071
😂😂 No not bc I feel unsafe 😂 it's a game no matter what I have fun .. I love going back for the second battle of revenge . I just believe it would be a lot better to not accidentally stab my alliance or for my alliance to not accidentally stab me lol. I want to know who I'm going stab happy on ..... What's wrong with that?? You'd rather win the fight because people don't know who they're stabbing??

When did I once say I wanted " cat bells" for other ships? You replying to the wrong person?? The only thing I said is that I'd like the people of the alliance to have a different color scheme ... I think it's a good idea! Most games when you have an alliance their names become blue or green... Since your crew is green blue would seem like a good alternative...

Once again I never said anything about their ships idc about that I can memorize who's ship is who's . Most the time on this game there is hardly ever one ship that looks alike .

  • @supriseautopsy
You're not getting it... Its not from not paying attention or not seeing a ship coming in.. we have a really decent crew!! Like I said... It may just be another friendly ship that is coming through just wanting in on the skele ship fun.

For instance... One time we were battling the skele ship with several ships in our alliance another ship rolls up.. we give them a chance... They come on board and we already have some of the other alliances on board everyone's names are white .... Including the people in your alliance you're battling against the people that think they're smart enough to take out several ships... You kill you alliance bc their name is white lol or they kill you bc your name is white... If the skele ship then sinks you or someone that was actually smart enough to grab a gun powder barrels you have to high tale it back to hope the boss hasn't been taken down yet bc you just fought most of the fight... Then you have to attack the people for your salty revenge. And hope you and your alliance don't kill one another again lol. It leads to a lot of mis communication and yeah it gets kinda annoying that every single person has a white name. I don't get how a color change of their names in your alliance would be a bad idea?

  • @tyburn-ketch

Yeah I can't understand why they can't comprehend something this simple when it was spelled out right in front of their eyes

  • @demon-of-rpgs

We normally start out own chats with people in alliances that doesn't mean everyone is going to remember everyone's names off bat... One chick was so overwhelmed bc someone kept sneaking on their ships trying to sink them and take their loot during the last wave ... And she couldn't tell who was who.. I remembered her ... And the other two on the brig... But that doesn't mean everyone is going to .. lol I believe I was killed once while trying to help them repair 😂. Like I've said before I don't mind going back for revenge but this is a time limited event with different options every week... People say well you have like 2.5 weeks left... But .... They have different offers every week. I'm not complain really... But I don't see why people are getting so butt hurt over a request of a color change on names

  • @m0ther0fall3vil I didn't say bad idea, I said it seems like a deliberate choice by devs. Anybody working in game development has probably played their fair share of games and has probably noticed teamed players are identified differently, as in the case of other players on your crew having green names. That's the thing though, alliance crews aren't completely on your team, they can still attack you with weapons, attack your boat with cannonfire, and they can drop the alliance on a whim. So for all purposes except a loose agreement to cooperate and the 50% loot-sharing, they are the same as other non-allied crews. And again, it seems that the devs wanted the suspicion of "wait, is this player in the alliance?" And the possibility of a sneaky, up-to-no-good pirate telling you they're in the alliance and successfully wreaking havoc. I get that during a skeleton ship fight this could be really bad. Any player or crew looking for PvP during the skeleton fights is sitting on the extreme edge of the chaotic-evil aligment chart, regardless of the alliance system and should be avoided at all costs. But that's a key part of the game, other players are very unpredictable, and there's plenty out there who are looking to cause chaos. I'm not saying that the current feature needs to remain untouched at all costs, just pointing out that it seems to be a deliberate function and why it might have been implemented this way.

  • @supriseautopsy

Yeah, and I get that .. it's the pirate life.. lol. That's why I believe it should pop up as a blue name instead of a green name... Regardless they could still attack anyways ... Yes ... And like I said either way our crew knows whod attacked us... And I enjoy going back for our salty revenge. I really think it's a blast going back armed with boom boxes ( aka gun powder barrles ) lol sinking them and taking our loot back plus theirs ... Which usually ends out hilarious ... Because they try coming back for us as well and end up chasing us once we had a galleon chase us for over an hour!!! They tried four times to sink us again! It seriously is fun normally when that happens we tell someone to captain the ship as the rest of us jump off with the loot and turn it into the Outpost... Once all the loot is sold we decide how to attack again... It's not really that I'm complaining at all.... I love some of our battles. It's that I can understand that color change of the name and compared to what other people are grumping about this really is just a mere simpple request . Plus.. I know it's only a 3 week thing... Changing it up every week. In all fairness I feel as though the request is simple enough to give others a better experience. Unlike some of the other requests I've seen...

  • Just make Allie's names are in Blue.

  • @supriseautopsy
Although I think it was you that insisted on them all wearing the same outfit?? That is a decent idea!

  • I have to laugh at the vitriol being spewed in this argument. I have to laugh even more that it is an argument at all. It only stands to typical gaming logic that allies have an easy tool to distinguish them from others. Though I'd say allies should be blue based on typical gaming structure but realistically the color is moot.

Asking for a quick identifier isn't unrealistic.

We've got the identifier for the ships themselves via the pennant, wanting one for crew mates that follows all the other standards in the game such as names not being visible except at closer ranges, remain hidden underwater, and so on really isn't asking to move heaven and earth.

It's alot less BS than would be required to code in changes to cross-play, graphical features of the Wilds portion of the map, or even adding extra character slots or ability to fine tune elements of a character during character selection, and we're all fine complaining about that stuff.....

But ask for a color code for friendlies and the world explodes.

It's a valid request, perhaps unnecessary by some standards, but IMO it's something that should have been a default expectation. I was more surprised something on this level wasn't involved in the alliance system by default! Reading the grasping at straws, ostentatious remarks that argue the inclusion simply make me giggle. Too much thought and concern over a trivial element that has a take it or leave it value and surprises that it's not the default.

Just as how speaking to various NPC's requires different buttons depending on whom it is... why isn't that universal I mean... shouldn't it be the same across the board? Why isn't it? Seems stupid doesn't it? Incongruous to be sure!

Enemies have red names, players universally white excepting crew, now alliances - a different standard player role, shouldn't they deserve an alternate color identifier? Why not? They can still hurt and betray us, seeing their names doesn't make anything 'easier' it simply helps us more quickly track who is whom in a sea of names. A subject which doesn't really come up often anyhow - because if your being boarded chances are your shooting the person anyhow. I know I am uncomfortable even with allies on my vessels and if they're on the way to the crows nest or near the loot hold areas of my ships... they're dead anyway, cause Imma kill 'em.

  • @blooddoll22
Completely agree! And seriously.. it seems like the s.o.t. world came to an end over a simple request for name change colors 😂 every single person ( and we had a lot of allies) on the first day of the update automatically thought .. well what the heck why are all our names still white? Then went on to stab each other to see if we still hurt one another lol. But seriously I can't believe the outrage I've read over a simple request . That's what I was thinking.. that blue would be the best option.

  • @gdb071
Just like color change of alliance names is nothing in this game and you acting outraged is ridiculous over something small.

  • By changing the color of the names stops a person from being sneaky and boarding a ship under the pretense that they could be an ally.

Once you apply the color change to the names then you lose this ability.

So in my opinion the game should stay as it is based on the reason I stated above.
