Did you see the banner come up on the screen notifying you that you'd completed the battle?
No I don't believe so. We thought that it may have been a delay, but I checked my commendations again after another 1/2 hour of being afk and still nothing.
There are several waves in the battle that need to be completed including the Captain's ship at the end and a screen like this ought to pop up - it might well be delayed and I'll query this as well.
Ya we didn't see the banner, but as I said, we got all of the loot and the commendation progress for ??/50 ships (mine went from 17 to 23/50).
@vikkturr88 When the final wave spawns, there are usually two ships. One of them has the loot (4 skele chest and 4 skele skulls). However, to get the commendation, you need to kill both of them. Sometimes the other one takes a bit longer to spawn (once it spawned after we killed the one with the loot).
My advice is, if the music isn't gone, the battle isn't over. You have to hear the trumpets after a successful battle. If you still hear the "action" music, move around a bit in the area, maybe you are in a place where the second one can't spawn.
EDIT:
The commendation progress for sunken ships goes up one by one ... you don't have to finish the battle to get some progress

Yep, everything that you said there happened. We downed the last 2 ships (the last of the 2 being the main Captain's ship), the music ended and we got all of the chests/skulls, yet I don't remember a banner popping up. So odd....
