Skeleton ships spawn bug?

  • Last night my crew and I went to defeat the crew west of shark bait cove. We think we ran into some spawning issues, or is this the way the campaign is designed? Below is a list of events that happened.

    1. We fight the first skelly ship. Meg shows up. We sink the first ship.
    2. While we fight off Meg, two skelly ships show up. We literally get sqaushed in-between all 3 and die very quickly lol
    3. Our ship respawned back at shark bait, and we go back to the fight. Meg wanders off right as we get back, and we sink the two skelly ships.
    4. Then the campaign banner shows up again and we fight another ship.
    5. We sink the skelly ship, but are out of supplies so we go to a nearby ship wreck.
    6. We come back and the banner pops up again and we fight and sink a single skelly ship.
    7. We fight two skelly ships, and we sunk them, but then while we jumped off to collect some supplies from barrels that popped up, our ship sunk lol (remember to check for leaks...)
    8. While I was still in the water special music starts playing and this single ship pops up. We assumed it was the captain. As my crew sailed back with the ship, I tried to board from the water. When my crew gets close enough to engage, the ship disappears back into the water.
    9. We sit there waiting for a few minutes and then again the campaign banner pops up and we fight a single ship.
    10. Then 2 ships show up again. By then it's late, we have no supplies, and we sink again.

Is the campaign resetting each time that banner pops up?

  • @sappyelephante Ahoy matey!

This is 100% the way the battle is designed... they work like skeleton forts but out at sea, there is a number of spawns before the main captain - you will be able to tell when you are on the final wave of spawns because the music changes to the captains one (like at forts) and finishing that ship you will hear the captain fanfare and will earn you the rewards (take a dip) and any commendations/doubloons.

Going backwards and forwards to close by islands for supplies does not seem to reset the spawn level you are currently at, so you are safe to continue to do that.

  • Coming into this topic with just one battle under my belt, but from what I remember, it would greatly behoove you to not die ;) Seriously though, I do think that @SappyElephante is right in that a respawn for your ship (if it's the only one in the area) means a respawn on the enemy waves just like a skeleton fort. Survive and resupply but avoid death at all costs--obviously.

  • @Musicmee @BIG-MEAN-CHIEF so all the waves reset if you sink... So even when we got back and finished a wave it started over again?

  • @sappyelephante That's not what I have witnessed... the skeletons' galleons seem to stay there ready for your return so I would say it just continues off where you left off. The banners just pop up to tell you that you are close to an event/island.

  • @sappyelephante @Musicmee There may be a patch that needs to be issued for an event not progressing like it should (bugs are bound to happen with a new build). I'd treat this like an isolated incident and try again. The waves should look like:
    Wave 1: 1 Ship
    Wave 2: 2 Ships
    Wave 3: 3 Ships and 1 Captain's ship (I think)

Also, be aware of the time you're at an event spot. The spawn window may have closed in the midst of your battle if the devs don't let the mission persist past a hard time frame.

  • @musicmee I have to say my experience is different ... yesterday we fought the skeleton ships at the Ancient Isles ... it took a while but we have managed to get to the final wave ... suddenly we got out of the range I guess (we were near the map border, but still pretty near the island and not out of the map) ... the ships were following us originally and then suddenly stopped ... the music stopped playing and before we turned the ship and got back to the range (like less than a minute after the music stopped) they disappeared ... they didn't sink, they didn't give us the commendation, nobody else was there ... they just disappeared without any indication they would do so ... and the game day was still right for them to be there ... in fact new encounter was started once we got back to the area

  • @aanubis96 Wow! Ok, then that is slightly annoying... I suppose if you are the only crew there then maybe there is a chance of the ships spawning away, but for both times this has happened to me and my crew the ships have just been at the stage we left them... but we never went more than 1-1.5 islands away so they always stayed in sight.

  • @Musicmee we were always within sight, but if there are only supposed to be 3 waves it definitely was messing up for us :/ cause it kept resetting to the first single ship.

  • @sappyelephante There doesn't seem to be a set number of waves... I have heard and seen lots of varying numbers all the way from 3 - 8 waves (not ships) so far (all with a captain at the end) And some waves seem to have 3 ships and others have only 1, I think its totally random.

As always though, it may be worth reporting a bug using the link below so if this isn't intended behavior someone will find out about it and have a chance to fix it.

    Submit a support ticket.

  • @musicmee Yeah ... it was annoying ... it was our fist attempt, took us around 2hrs to get to the final stage (our supplies ran out and we had to board the ships, and steal it from them, dive for supplies around, circle ... we have managed to stay alive and kept doing them some damage) ... it was really fun the whole time but the worst feeling when the final ones despawned :/ ... and since we were low we just couldn't redo it yesterday ... I don't think we were far either ... they were certainly in sight as long as they followed us, but once the music stopped, they disappeared

  • I really think that the megalodon is just unnecessary. Maybe it should be afraid of the skeletons and run and hide during an encounter.

  • Hey guys

Has anyone had it when they sail to the island and the banner doesn’t appear

I’m currently sat west of shark bait and nothing is happening

  • @the-mad-piggeh go further towards the rock. Have to sail a little futther than the atoll.

  • @the-mad-piggeh I would try to travel through the rocks near the island ... when the ships spawn, they seem to start there

  • 5 waves...if you leave the area you reset the event. It's part of why an alliance should be done...at least one ship stays in the mix while others forage and repair.

  • Ran into a similar problem again last night. We had the following waves:
    Wave 1: defeated one ship
    Wave 2: defeated two ships
    Wave 3: defeated two ships
Wave 4: two ships spawn, we defeat one, we sink (I survived) while the other boat in our alliance headed our way. While I waited in the water by some rocks, the skeleton ships despawned and the music stopped. A minute or so later when our next ship got there, campaign banner showed up again and the music started again (I never left the area mind you).
Both times I have tried to do this event now the skeleton ships have despawned, and it appears the event is resetting

  • Will the skeleton ships despawn right at the timer ends, or if we've already started the battle will it continue past the time?
