Loading taking too long/ Failing to connect to servers (Alabasterbeard)

    When I entered the game a few minutes ago, it took longer than usual to load the menu selection. Then after picking the ship and entering matchmaking, it took way too long as well to enter the loading screen (the one with the tips), which after one screenshot stopped and said it failed to connect to servers, with the tag "Alabasterbeard". This happened the three times I tried.
    What does this mean? Why is it taking too long for things to load? Is it the update itself or are there way too many people playing at the moment? Are you guys having similar problems as well?

    Also, when it sends me back to the ship selection screen, my pirate is gone, not showing up again.
    What is going on?

    i got alabasterbeard and cinnamonbeard too and the beginning fishbeard.... any kind of beard more?

    @winsterz Well I didn't go very far.
    Just one tip screen and then the message saying failed to connect to server. We're both on the same boat (pun totally intended).
