You see Ladies and Gents they have come up with some great design for these flags, but guess what they missed out. Your own! Rare i understand have been busy, but one thing i think they could do is add a way to customise your own flag, put your own image on it. As a pirate in this fabulous realm i love to sail the seas, but without an emblem i have brought with me, it's kind of a downer.
So Rare what do you think, could you add a customisation system, so we can add our own image to a flag?
@cyborgian42 If they gave us a selection of emblems and colours we could customise our flags with I'd be up for it. Not so sure that being able to upload our own images would help in keeping with the art style of the game.
Also I'd rather not see the "HMS Jolley (insert unmentionable here)" spoiling my view. You know? ;)

I agree with you. there would be a lot of Vetting required.
In addition there may be issues of copyright violation, depending on the source of the images submitted.
A bit of a mine field, probably something that isn't coming to game... or indeeed.... anytime soon.
Rare wouldn't allow for external images to be imported into the game as it would break from the visual aesthetic and art design of the world.
As for creating custom images, again as you have stated, using basic shapes in layers to create an image would allow some gamers to abuse the system and create inappropriate images.
However, Rare has created a large library (and ever growing, I saw the new ones earlier today) of icons and emblems that could potentially eventually be used to create custom flags, but that is not on the roadmap at this time. If there is enough demand for it from the players, that may change. I for one support this concept and hope to see it implemented some day.
