Outposts and Their Great Potential

  • In the current state of Sea of Thieves, outposts are meant to be a place to pick up voyages and redeem your treasures for the in-game currency and that's about it. But Outposts have the potential to become something much bigger. They have the potential to be much more content-rich and exciting.

Outposts can be improved on dramatically to become a place you may want to visit without the need of picking up a voyage or having to redeem chests, skulls or merchant items. I believe that Outposts can have more functionality to them. There are many things that can be added to the Outposts and here are a few examples:

    • Stats: How many quests a player has done, how many chests of a certain type have been redeemed etcetera
    • An "official" or "formal" way of Restocking a ship: The Title explains itself
    • Outpost Exclusive Events: Dueling, Mini-games, Lore related events etcetera.

There are many ways Outposts can and hopefully will be improved and with the rich and creative SoT community, I am sure there will be many interesting and fun ideas thrown into the table. Feel free to comment if you have anything to add to the discussion. See you in the Sea Of Thieves!

Rare could add a few large towns, resembling factions. I mean think of Fort Royal and Tortuga from Pirates of the Caribbean.

  • @becausescience1 Not as part of the current map. Large ghost towns is just a waste of resources, if they are supposed to be a social hub there needs to be a decent player count, but no one forces you to be there so the sea becomes too crowded too. And because people are like they are, those towns have to be safe zones or it will just become grief city.

So to address both Tortuga (or what ever) should be placed on it's own map/server/instance so you can adjust player numbers, set different rules, disable free PvP without affecting the actual map and gameplay. You also avoid issues with bringing booty to safe zones.

    .
True that. Being Zones without the Possibility of harming and killing each other are a must if Players are supposed to meet there.

  • Add a training ring for sparring with your crew.

    aye!

  • Agree with what @Crimsonraziel says, whilst this would be great, having an awesome place to visit with potentially only 16 people, but likely no one outside your crew after the first week would be bad... if they can make it that everyone loads in to this island and is then separated in to different servers when they leave would be awesome.

Mini games in the Tavern: cards, dice, gambling, darts.

Fix those broken steps in the back and this could be done on the whole 2nd floor

  • I think a tortuga style place should be an actual island with npc guards that is much larger than the outposts we see.

But on the topic of outposts, I would love it if you could align yourself with an outpost each session, with a timer to change said outpost that is like 2 hours or more. You would only be able to sell certain animals and harvestable such as foods and possibly crafted consumables etc if they ever add anything to this game, for full price as if you had a voyage, and other outposts will want different stuff, providing the possibility for you to run into other merchants who may want to set up a trade route (I can sell black ad gold chickens at my outpost today, and the other guy can sell banana and raw fish as examples, hopefully fishing will be here soon) so I know if I harvest some fish for them they will gather chickens and we then trade and maximize profit. They would have to add some sort of notoriety system to prevent riskless betrayals and I would say make merchant crews allied with an outpost lose the ability to sell if they fire first, and ships that sink merchant outpost allied ships would become targets and would drop a skull of according value to their level of notoriety, and if killed before the timer runs out, you would have a ship respawn timer and would have to respawn without a ship or perform the mini games we heard were supposed to be on the ferry of the damned to return to the world.

There really is so much from the 2016 e3 trailer and that was talked about in early videos that “will all be in the game on launch” that just isn’t there.

They really need to put the pieces together for the pirate economy and give the world the life and meaning to decision making it deserves.

  • Something intrigues me. Although there is no safe place for PvP to be disabled, I find it odd that the outposts have no way to defend themselves. I do not necessarily mean guards or any AI, but simply guns, left to those present on the outpost. It would be something that would be likely to appear in Cursed Sails if the outposts are really in danger.

Also, I admit that I personally would like to see some outposts or forts that can be conquered by an alliance, and that could serve as a base or something else.

  • @musicmee Ah yes! Forgot that. Thank you!

  • @becausescience1 I think that there is enough space in the current outposts but I think the outposts should have some personality to them.

100% agree there should be ship dueling. However I think it should be a option on the start-up screen rather than being in a server to do it.

  • I agree that the outposts have much more potential and like the idea of bieng able to buy supplies for the ship instead of havin got go to various islands, sink enemy ships and having to find barrels to result and think this would be a good

  • @crimsonraziel
I agree, some rules need to be set to be able to implement something of this scale. Doing so would greatly add to the pirate feel of the game and allow for many opportunities in the sense of expanding the game.

  • @treefittymonsta Ahoy, I think that your Idea is great, it would make the Outposts like a HUB, in which people can meet up and have fun, they should also add more secrets in the Outposts (Underwater Caves, Lore, etc).

Have fun with Cursed Sails Tomorrow!
