There really needs to be a way to get back to the game if you crash

  • I was doing an athena voyage with a friend and at some point he disconnected. While waiting for him to come back, I went to do a riddle (the only thing left was the riddle and another skeleton contract before getting the final map with the athena chest).
I was at the last stage of the riddle and got disconnected as well, with a message saying "network error". My internet was fine (I'm using a cable and on pc).

So yeah, all progress was gone. This is always the fear I have with this game. Not losing my loot to players, but to get disconnected for whatever reason and losing everything.

I know this has been suggested many times, but why not add a way to reconnect already? Give us 5-10 minutes to come back.
If you get disconnected, your ship will drop it's anchor and stay there until you come back. When the timer ends, the ship will scuttle. Others would be able to board your ship or destroy it in the meantime, so it can't really be abused.

It would be nice to give us a chance to get back to the game, instead of having hours of play time just be gone in an instant.

It's not the same as losing loot because you didn't bother to sell your items. In athena voyages, you don't have a choice but to play for a few hours in order to finish it.

Yes, if you play on a galleon you will have a better chance of coming back to continue. However, I heard of times where the entire crew was disconnected or not invite you back because it was a random group. Also in my story, I played with someone and we both got disconnected, it happens.

My connection is perfect and the game is very stable. I honestly can't complain about crashing since it happens so rarely.
When it does happen though, you should have a way to come back. It feels really bad crashing while doing a fort, athena or carrying a lot of loot. Once it happens, everything is lost.

How did you lose progress to loot you sold already?

What do you mean? I didn't say I sold anything. We had a riddle and another skeleton contract to do before the final map with the athena chest appears. Maybe I need to clarify that.

  • @PersonalC0ffee We did sell a part of it but this is not really the point. We were doing an athena voyage and got disconnected before reaching the last map that rewards the chest. We were one riddle and skeleton contract away and then it happend.

The rest of the loot was just a bonus.

  • another upvote x 100. if you build a game that requires one play session to complete an objective and can take hours you should build a mechanism for reconnecting if you are disconnected.

  • I solo sloop A LOT. Being disconnected regularly happens to me. It's a mix between server stability or sometimes my two sons also being on xb-live. So I'm forced to play at night. Now as IRRITATING as it is to lose stuff, we have to consider implications of regaining loot. What do I mean?
Well imagine a farmer, just collecting loot and low and behold a galleon is on a war path. What prevents the player from merely disconnecting their internet connection to merely re-enter elsewhere with their loot intact?
malicious pc players have more options to affect server stability; not saying its rampant but they have more control over the environment to force a lag-event; so that removes the possibility of being able to identify true-false server/connectivity issues.

If rare can identify true and honest connectivity issues, then yes they should allow players to restart with their mission/loot. But if they cant identify, then they shouldn't.

The suggestion in my first post prevents people from abusing it though. Like I said, being disconnected will cause your ship to drop it's anchor and stay there until you return. If you decide to disconnect yourself on purpose, you're going to have a bad time.

All it means is that you, the player, will have a chance to come back to your ship in case of a crash or network error. Your ship won't vanish or teleport anywhere.

  • @blindnev oh sorry I missed that! Now THAT is a GREAT idea

  • It would be cool to have this feature, if you disconnects the server hold your spot for 3/5 minutes or something. Enough time to reconnect.

I do not do this often but i was doing a legendary solo and i did everything, i was going for the last 2 riddles and them i got a crash and lost all progress. I don't care about the loot really, but just being able to reconnect and finish the voyage would be great. Sometimes you make friends with almost all the server and if you crash is sad to go to another one.

I rarely play solo but this feature will be nice for solo and open crew players.
