Interactive Map on Xbox App

    I think it would be really useful to have a Sea of Thieves companion in the Xbox app - I recall they used to refer to it as ‘SmartGlass’ and it was often used to provide easy access to things like maps and inventories on mobile and tablets.

    It would be great to have a Sea of Thieves Interactive Map next to me on my tablet - through my voyages it could update with useful information such as which islands have chickens, pigs and snakes. I could also use it to plot my routes.

    I know there are unofficial versions of this idea but I’d like to see it integrated with the game so that my tablet updates in real time (I think one of the Dead Rising games did something like this).

    @mancfoo Sorry to burst your bubble here, but that will never happen. The map is on a table on the ship for a reason: it forces crew communication and cooperation.

    What I would like to see the xbox app used for is typing/keyboard support.

    @mancfoo I think this is a great idea but Rare has enough server maintenance with the game servers and that should take priority over a companion app that runs concurrently and syncing with your game.

    But perhaps it's something they'll look at post Forsaken Shores.

    @fenderbendur I don't think it's going to happen either, however it's still a cool idea.

    I'm still waiting for xbox keyboard typing support as well.

    @m1sterpunch Absolutely agree that this shouldn’t be top of a priority list! I just think it would be really handy and could help a lot for those people who don’t or can’t use a mic. For example, they could easily indicate which island to head towards next and it could incorporate more Pirate Chat / Text Chat functionality as @fenderbendur suggests.

    I think you could pull together a variety of things in a companion app.

    I think an official companion app could have a map and the "Pirate Times" that shows the current events and news but it wouldn't sync with the game. But shows you a zoomable map that you can mark and plot courses. It could also show the flora and fawn of each island. Just wouldn't have to connect to your serve to get your ships location in real time. That way it's helpful in many ways but not an extra load on the servers and could be made completely separate from the game developing.

    The rare thief has a good app that helps with ploting courses and such. Has toggles for many criteria.

    Sounds cool but do not think rare will be adding it anytime soon.
