As it stands there isn't much incentive to fight the Kraken, or Megaladon. They're more a nuisance and I find my crew usually just run away instead of standing and fighting.
One incentive that could be offered for fighting them is Bilge Rat Coins. The coins are given out for amazing deeds and what is more amazing than defeating a Sea Monster. 5 coins per Sea Monster seems like a fair amount.
Bilge Rat Coins For Fighting Sea Monsters
@shamanmclamie Hey there :) Thanks for the suggestion. While I agree that there should be some sort of incentive to fight our awesome ocean buddies, I don't think doubloons are a proper reward.
Being able to earn doubloons outside of the bi-weekly events decentivizes people from taking part in the events themselves. I would love to see some type of reward added to Karen and Meg but I think Rare should pursue a different route.
That's just my opinion and I would love to hear everyone else's.
@xcalypt0x The Sea Monsters aren't something you encounter all the time and there isn't any real way to farm them. Some days I go without seeing them at all. Some days I see them all the time. You'll still get the bulk of your Bilge Rat Coins from events and just doing them before the event is over I find is a pretty good incentive. The reward could be lower like three coins if devaluing the Bilge Rat Events is a real concern.
It just feels like fighting the Sea Monsters is pointless and Bilge Rat Coins seem like the most appropriate reward considering they're given out for one's deeds and defeating a Sea Monster is quite a deed. The only other rewards could be gold and that would mean something floating up from the water and any Veteran Pirate should know it isn't always easy to find lost treasure in the open sea.@shamanmclamie I get that and I understand that they can not be "farmed" since the encounters are random but over time, people who play a lot will end up encountering many Megs and Karens and will amass quite a large sum of doubloons without doing any of the weekly events.
@dutchyankee Escaping the Kraken is easy just sail out of it's zone of attack and you're free. I can't remember the last time I actually took the time to fully fight the Kraken.
Another reason I like the idea of Bilge Rat Coins being the incentive for fighting the Sea Monsters is it means the number of Bilge Rat Coins isn't totally fixed. I personally am hesitant to spend any on non limited cosmetic items because of this fact. People might be more willing to spend them if they weren't. I agree they should be a rare commodity which is why I think the Bilge Rat Doubloon reward for fighting the Sea Monsters should be no more than five. I can't imagine fighting enough Sea Monsters to get so many doubloons before the next event. Usually the items have a total cost of 60 Doubloons. You would have to fight twelve Sea Monsters if it's five coins per monster, or twenty times if it's three coins per monster.
