Because a real pirate use only the cutlass! ;)
Haha JK, but if you had more bullets I think the game would be verry unbalanced and no one would use the cutlass...Or use it less..
You dont want to have 4 crewmates running around with blunder`s shooting everything nonstopp and everywhere x) Ayeeeeee

@el-dunco Your avatar looks like the first shot already was too much. :P
That's because it was a galleon crew all welding EoR. They fired in unison as I climbed their ladder.

Yah lets reverse that....5 canon balls, 10 bullets...seems more sensible to me.
For real pirates, there wasn't enough time during a fight to reload a flintlock pistol, so they would either only use edged weapons, or go into battle with two or three loaded flintlocks, and half of the time they wouldn't fire at all due the humid carribean air. Most pirates wouldn't have bothered to carry any extra rounds on their person during a fight
I'm not sure if you've ever come across this post by Mike, around the rationale behind combat in Sea of Thieves but basically @rockinpodunk is correct, the pace of combat is designed to feel consistent with the period in which we're playing while also allowing enough 'pauses' if you like for other possibilities to emerge, like parley etc
It's a bit of an old article now but I would think it still stands. The most important element to call out in terms of our general approach to combat is that Sea of Thieves is a game with guns and swords in it, but it’s not a game all about guns and swords. We want Sea of Thieves to support different motivations and playstyles, but when combat does occur, it should feel right for the pirate experience we’re creating, while fully supporting the kinds of emergent encounters that can occur while out on a voyage.

I like how it is it promotes skill based fighting not just flinging pellets non stop from a protected location. Personally I'd like less ammo on guns then more, Give us more swordplay!
I'd be happy to see this! :D

Whenever I encounter a friendly crew, I always try to end it with a duel. I tell them I wish to challenge their most skilled swordsman to a duel to the death. It's probably one of my favorite things to do in this game!
@katttruewalker I think you are wrong. I am not gonna write a 2 paragraph here. But what do you mean by "possibilities to emerge"? Do you mean people jumping around like chickens until they go down the boat to get bullets?
@william-flint guns are pretty useless in PvP anyway, honestly. Sure, you get the occasional kill with them but cutlass kills seem way more common. I hardly ever find myself needing more bullets in PvP. PvE is a different story.
I think what Mike is getting at is basically this isn't a pirate fps game and that combat is one of many ways to manage encounters in game. If the combat is a little slower and more evocative of the time i.e flintlocks etc then it gives a pause where you can jump overboard, sail away.. any of the variations we see rather than just being able to mow everyone down with endless bullets.
There was a time earlier on the forums where the community was advocating damp powder and misfires to be even more authentic.
Historically pirates carried more than one pistol if they wanted multiple shots because reloading a flintlock in the heat of battle was suicide. The cutlass was the bread and butter when boarding. So 5 having shots is already exaggerated. Also, it's an open world adventure game and not a pirate simulator. If it was we'd all have died of scurvy by now!
Well maybe not but bananas have only 15% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin c so the five bananas (75% RDI) we can carry is still gonna cause a deficiency over time!

haha I did at one time, I'm not sure if it was my comment that you were referring to.
