End the bunny hopping fiasco Rare.

  • Put diminishing returns on jumping for the love of god it is such terrible game play at the moment.

Not to mention it would help bridge the cross play gap between xbox and PC (note I am on PC)

Update* my thoughts on tackling this:

A stamina bar for jumping that works as follows -

The bar would allow for 3 consecutive jumps before it was diminished.
Once a section of the bar is diminished, it takes 3 seconds to replenish, jumping resets this 3 second timer.
This stamina bar would not be affected by anything else, only jumping.
Once the bar is diminished, the character cannot jump.

    Here is a pretty picture:

    Please..

  • @gianni001 I don't tend to jump too much, usually just when charging a pirate who is amimg a gun at me to try to throw off their shot. One I'm in cutlass range I tend to stay on the ground.

But I'm willing to prepose a trade, since I don't like hoping around in a fight either. Do something to decrease the bunny hops, and in exchange add a chance for the guns to misfire.

  • @william-flint Not really necessary imo. Bunny hopping is just bad gameplay, if it had diminishing returns players would need to time it well and use it skilfully, not just spam it.

  • I like it. Not sure what the problem is.

I shall keep it up. Especially when I'm cashing in loot.

  • Bunny-hopping used to mean more than just jumping :(

It also USED to give an advantage (although only if you could actually manage it)

Jumping is just jumping. If someone was pointing a gun at you, I'd imagine you want to move as much as possible in any direction you could manage.

  • I think the catch to such things is the effect it would have outside of combat. In an exploratory type of world I tend to run and jump over a lot of things often times consecutively depending on my path. (especially if my friend is trying to kill me with a powderkeg). Often times I find myself determined to climb something resulting in several jumps in a row until I manage to get footing where I am going.

While I haven't experienced anyone abusing the jump during a fight if those who frequent fighting more feel it needs adjusted then by all means adjust it. Just make sure it doesn't bleed into other gameplay aspects.

The idea would be to negative spam jumping, jumping every 3-5 seconds wouldnt be effected. It would only begin to diminish after consecutive jumps. This wouldnt affect exploring or general gameplay but would make fights so much better with other pirates.

I play PC, and I do it, I hate it, I hate the play style but its so effective..Again, it would bridge the gap between xbox and PC which is something sorely needed.

  • @admiral-greyjoy $79.99!!!!!! Yeah, good luck with that.

  • $79.99 to be told....just sit on the ferry or get other people to do it 😆

  • @gianni001
You underestimate my exploration jumping but ultimately you aren't wrong.

While I don't see the issue within my experiences something within that nature would work in theory. So long as it's tested out and works as cleanly as suggested then...-shrug- no skin off my back.

  • @gianni001 Yes! Make the game less interesting please!

  • @foxdodge Lol 😂

It’s not my eBay post. I just thought it may be helpful for those who have trouble jumping & shooting or walking & playing an instrument at the same time.

  • Seems as a pc player you are saying we have an advantage with jumping over xbox. I beg to differ. Use an xbox elite controller set one paddle set to jump. boom just as good as a pc player.. dont add any negative effects to jumping I would straight be mad af and honestly would question the direction the game is going if this was added..

  • A fiasco you say?
I'd hardly call it a fiasco! Can't remember the last time I saw it used in combat and even when it is used, time your shots!

In a game where a shot to the toe (as @reedski often highlights) causes as much damage as the head, aim for the middle mass!

  • Why would any game developer want to put limitations on free motion like that? Being punished for simply controlling your character, that sounds fun? I wholeheartedly disagree.

  • @admiral-greyjoy Lol, that post is only going to help one person, the person who made it.

    Please..

I am on console and love bunny hopping.

  • Console players can do jump too.

I learned from a very young age that jumping can help avoid damage. And also Jumpin' n' shootin' is fun.

  • @gianni001 bunny hopping has been in every game since forever it wont be removed you need to be able to jump and making it so you cant jump without losing stamina wont work out id you think about it

  • @admiral-greyjoy This is an original way to bait people, but it's still baiting people into fighting about Pirate Legends. Please don't.

  • "When in Rome, do as the Romans."

Jumping is fine, as is :)

  • @gianni001 +1 from me this would be a great idea to suppress the jumps.

  • Jump exhaustion gaps plz... k go

  • Nope. Hell no. Naw. NO WAY. limiting player mobility is not a step in the right direction. This is a game where you can survive being blasted out of a cannon. If anything the jumps should be higher! (The last part was a joke, i'm bad at humor) :'(

  • This needs to happen. Right now the combat feels like Fortnite. This is not how pirates fought. For those saying it’s in every game, there’s plenty of games that have diminishing returns on consecutive jumps. There’s already banana spammers. Banana bunnies.... yeah I’m out.

I just came here to say this. I play on PC with an Elite controller, always have one paddle set to A... but it's not a PC vs Xbox issue

  • Seeing people just spam that button and jump around like bunnies mid fight just looks bad to me, that's really my only issue with it. I'd also like to see it gone.

Could simply make your movements slower for a second right after a jump or mid air, and people would stop doing it.

  • I also dislike bunny hopping in SoT but mainly because fighthing mechnics are sluggish and unresponsive. This creates weird encounter that are super anti-climatic.

There is an option for evading but probably nobody uses it because jumping is easier.

  • iam ok with stamina i can spend but not with being unable to jump twice without cd

  • My personal solution would be:

A stamina bar for jumping that works as follows -

    • The bar would allow for 3 consecutive jumps before it was diminished.
    • Once a section of the bar is diminished, it takes 3 seconds to replenish, jumping resets this 3 second timer.
    • This stamina bar would not be affected by anything else, only jumping.
    • Once the bar is diminished, the character cannot jump.

Imo, this would still allow a great level of free movement in every environment. All it would do is keep pirates grounded more for PVP fights. It would also great a more tactical approach to fights, people who are better at resource management will fair better in a fight.

Jumping would be a cost vs reward scenario, much like the sword lunge is.

I'll update the OP for discussion sake, for new comers to the thread.

  • I see nothing wrong with being able to bunnyhop.

I love jumping over someone's head and swiping them from behind with a sword. And just because a few of the community can't handle that would be a bad reason to get rid of it.

    But that's just my opinion.
Sure being able to eat bananas and reload might be a bit crazy but jumping around is fun. Introducing stamina and diminishment would impair exploration too.

  • Though I can't comment on which players tend to hop versus who don't I can only anecdotally offer than I really see it MORE from Xbox players....

That said who does it more or doesn't and it's affects on crossplay aside...

I despise bunny hopping. I first started to encounter it in Xbox titles years back... and games still retain this habit of players.

It's stupid and immersion killing for me. I get it: We need to be able to jump to more easily navigate the landscape and such"... sure, jumping is part of gaming since friggen Mario or earlier...

But it is really stupid looking IMO. And frankly... it makes it easier for me to blast fools in the face with one minor exception... sniping is potentially more of a pain in the ascot.

+1 for simply bringing up something I've agreed with since forever ago, in any title.

And as a soldier for 7 years and change... with combat under my belt.. I promise... no one bunny hops in Afghanistan or other hostile locations.... it really is just a tool of gaming...one that simply looks and plays in ridiculous ways.
