This is starting to become a problem again.

  • I´m normally Solo-Slooping and I really enjoy calming down at the end of a day, just by digging up some treasure, defeating Skeletons or fighting other players in a fair fight.

As I´ve only played with other players very rarely, I´ve come to know the Dangers of Solo-Slooping, and I know that I´m taking on a higher difficulty, especially in PVP through sailing alone, but this is getting out of Hand, at least that´s my Experience:

I´m anchoring at an Island after slowly going completely around it, to check there´s no one else already anchored, nor anyone coming towards me from the Distance, and I begin my Voyage. Throughout the Voyage, I check my surroundings again, and that multiple times, but still: Once I´m back at my ship, loading it with the last bit of aquired loot there´s a Galleon right next to me. Out of nothing. And that is beginning to happen more and more often. I´m telling them through the Speaking Trumpet: "Im Solo! I can´t defend myself against you, I´m not even on my ship! Don´t shoot, I mean no harm!" But most times, the guys on the Galleon don´t even bother to answer. They just start shooting, sinking my ship, and once it sunk, they don´t even check if I´ve got loot. They just sail off.

I know this game works a lot around PVP, and don´t get me wrong, I really enjoy a match on the open Seas, even when it´s 4vs1, but this "Kill-on-Sight-mentality" is coming back stronger. And it´s just no fun standing at the Beach, with a Skull in your Hands, not able to defend yourself, seeing how your Progress sinks away into the Deep Seas even though you have checked for enemys multiple times.

Please, to everyone who´s like the Galleon Crew I was talking about:

Don´t attack Solo-Sloopers, or generally any ship docked at an Island which is defenseless and means no harm to you. Instead, wait until I´m on my ship and back on the wide Seas to have a fair battle with me.

  • I don't think this was ever a "problem". Why do you ask for it to be easier after saying you know you're taking on the harder play style? Whats unfair about someone catching you off guard after you've checked the horizon and decided no danger was about? Surely the team that caught you off guard and maybe sunk you were just playing the game safely and not believing your cries of harmless uselessness, they wanted to see for themselves. This is a silly request in my opinion.

  • As a fellow solo sloop player sometimes, I feel your pain. However it is the price we pay for solo slooping. I hate losing, but I love the thrill, the chase and the most of all when I win! Not to sound like that guy but you kinda have to suck it up or make friends so you can play with others for more safety and fun! People are always looking to make groups on facebook communities as well as xbox or the xbox app if you're on pc. But yeah not much else can be done, it goes with the game, love it or hate.

  • Yet another reason why we need PVE servers.

  • @xrekkoffx It's the price everyone pays for bored players who just get a thrill out of one sided pvp. My buddy and I get bored having one of us guard the ship all the time, it more fun running off to do the quests as a team. So it can happen when not soloing also.

Maybe some people find it fun always staring over your shoulder instead of enjoying the beautiful game, but I don't.

  • It's just the way the game is. The dangers of other players who will can either help you or sink you. When I play solo I play like I have eyeballs in the back of my head. I rarely get caught by surprise. If I do it's because I was slacking. There is nothing like maneuvering around an ocean full of sharks :p Also I was solo slooping last night on an empty server and to be honest it was kind of boring knowing the oceans are empty. Thinking that here are others out there that can steal your loot changes everything.

I know the phrase "it's s pirate game" is over used, but in terms of "staring over your shoulder" I believe that phrase applies quite adequately.

  • @janceese

When an island has multiple loots to cart back, I've taken to hiding them first, away from my ship. Then I run back and check the horizon from the crow's nest before loading up.

Also, it may be more prudent to hide than attempt communication. If they ARE the hit and run type, you could lay low till they're gone, rescue your loot, hide it, and then come back for it.

I tend to take a Zen, "there's always tomorrow" type stance on lost loot, but I get the frustration.

  • @janceese the kos is always a thing and probably will never stop i have seen a influx of LFG PvP boats i check the stats of the people hosting 9/10 are people who just got the game with 50k miles it might because new game pass people since the new trailers just my idea

  • Yeah, attacking an empty ship is deep sh*t. Its no challenge, I dont see the fun of doing so but you know, there are some ppl that have such difficult RL... They go to the game wanting something easy so they go 4x1 just to feel better about themselves.

  • I´m telling them through the Speaking Trumpet: "Im Solo! I can´t defend myself against you, I´m not even on my ship! Don´t shoot, I mean no harm!"

Err, why would you say something like that? It means free loot for them. Those that attack other ships don't care about having fair fights. They just want to sink you and get your loot.
If anything, the best moment to attack someone is when they are not ready and can't defend themselves.

Anyway, if a galleon managed to sneak up on you, then you did something wrong.
On big islands, you always need to check your surrondings every time you pick a piece of loot. In addition to that, never drop your anchor. Keep your sails and anchor up so you can get away fast.

Not saying that you are like that, but I met many players that really don't check their surrondings enough. Some people just look at their maps for a couple of minutes or don't check on their ship at all. Many of them realized I was there only when I was infront of them on their own ship, while playing music.

I'm a solo player as well and honestly, at rank 45/50/41, I lost my loot only twice (3 empty chicken coops and a foul skull) and that was because I didn't pay enough attention when I started playing.
Always look for other ships with your scope when you reach an island and keep an eye on them. If you don't see anyone, just keep checking.

Make sure your ship is ready to move and that you are not too far from it. If the skeletons/chests are on the other side of the island, simply bring the ship to that side and raise the anchor/sails. This way, even if you noticed a ship too late, you can always just hop on and sail away.

  • @blindnev

Apparently they didn't even bother taking his loot.

  • @blindnev About telling them that I´m Solo: I mostly do that when I´m too far away from my Ship to get away. I never set my Anchor. Its just that I normally arrive at my ship too late. I turn around, see my ship in the Distance, with the enemy Ship next to it, and once I arrive it´s already too late. In my Experience, I would really have to check every minute, which I have to admit, don´t do. It would seem like I´ll have to check my surroundings even more often.

And, I actually didn´t mean to complain. Which I probably did anyways. It´s really just that I don´t see the fun in getting sunk without a Chance of fighting back. As I said in my Original post, I´ve got no problem at all getting sunk in a fair fight, but this is just.... Uh. It has this frustrating feeling to it.

Yes I understand, it can be frustrating at times, but this is how solo works. You need to be sneaky and fast. In a fight against a good group, you will probably lose. This is why you need to focus on being good at escaping.
Of course some of the other crews will be bad (fortunately, many of them are) so you can sink them instead, but this is not the case most of the time.

If you practice on being prepared and always having a plan, then these scenarios won't happen anymore.
Many sloops and galleons chased me, but they never got my loot or destroyed my ship. Either I manage to sell all my stuff or I sink them instead.

So yeah, this was annoying but now you know that you need to be more aware and ready. Just practice! : )

@V**a-Hombre @BlindNev Yeah. And that´s the Case as well

Well, their reason for sinking you doesn't really matter. Sometimes it can even be for their own safety.

  • if you're taking up a slot on my server, you are fair game to me and my crew at any time. period.

we will attack your ship docked at an island every time with no hesitation. you could have 50k worth of gold on your ship for all we know. we enjoy the pvp, so we pvp. asking people to not kill you in a pvp pirate game is like going to a concert to study and being upset that the music is loud.

  • @xrekkoffx said in This is starting to become a problem again.:

Yet another reason why we need PVE servers.

I'm going to sink you quite easily then.

  • @pissedfurby I´m having no Problem with getting sunk, or my loot getting stolen. It´s just the Situation I described:

Instead of having a fight on the Seas, you´re backstabbed docking at an Island, and the other ship just wanted to sink you without being interested in your loot.

And yeah yeah I know "It´s a pirate game and all that, get along with it." I know, and I´m fine with it. I just think a fair fight on the Sea with both sides actually fighting is more enjoyable than plainly getting sunk while away from your ship.

In my opinion, too many people think that this games ONLY about PVP.

  • @blindnev Alright, Thanks.

In the End there´s nothing I can do about it now anyways.

  • then stock up on supplies and come back for the fight if you want. i tell everyone i sink to remember our paint and sails lol. its not that people enjoy sinking you with no fight, they just arent going to stop and politely ask you if you'd care to dance or something lol

  • As a mostly solo player I know that my time on the seas will be very hard everytime I start a voyage. Nonetheless I'm not going to ask for PVE servers - although I think that if some people want them, Rare should listen to them to some extent - but I'd really appreciate to have some kind of immunity while on an outpost. Not for the loot, not to save my life, but to save the ship while I'm going back and forth from the isle to the ship when collecting supplies. I'm effing tired of those morons who keep shooting your ship the moment they arrive despite the fact that you have no ill intentions and they sink your ship because they can do it. I hate spending 10 minutes to collect supplies because I can't carry more than 5 bananas/10 cannonballs/5 planks at a time and see everything sink because some lunatic just wanted to test their reach while I respawn on an empty island, short of supplies.
I know that this game requires dedication, but dedication isn't tantamount to "wasting my time in pointless activities I could do faster if I was given the chance to".

  • I would never sink a sloop, not me, never, muwahahahahahahahaaaa haaa haaahaa!!!!

  • @xrekkoffx said in This is starting to become a problem again.:

Yet another reason why we need PVE servers.

    NOOOOOOOOO. ENOUGH WITH THIS GARBAGE

  • @janceese Just decrease the interval between horizon checks and you'll be good.

  • @weepaperboats Yeah you will, cause I scuttle if I have nothing, or sail off the edge of the map if I do. Not letting some PVPer get my stuff.

  • I've been playing with the same crew since launch. We are all legends. While we dont go out of our way to sink idle ships, if theres an outpost/island we need to go to, and theres a ship there, we will sink it and kill the crew. We're not trying to greif people, but simply remove a threat from our path. Your cries of being "friendly" or " truce" mean nothing. We are all pirates and lying is part of the job. Also 10 minutes is way to long to be at one island safely solo. If your at an island longer then four to fives minutes you're begging to be snuck up on. Just my opinoins.

  • @xrekkoffx You're free to do so. That being that, … it's not that hard to recover booty from the red sea.

  • @xrekkoffx написал в This is starting to become a problem again.:

    True "pirate" :D

@Janceese and for the Topic Starter if they sail away without even checking your loot i see no problem in this - grab it, place somewhere on island and then retake it )

  • I'd sink you too

  • @janceese said in This is starting to become a problem again.:

In my opinion, too many people think that this games ONLY about PVP.

Just because someone sank you while you were at an outpost does not mean they were only interested in PVP. They may have just wanted to fire cannons after spending the last two hours digging up treasure or delivering chickens. I realize when someone makes us mad that our tendency is to minimize and degrade them, but their actions might have appeared more reasoned if you’d been on thier crew.

  • @ghostpaw very true. Never attribute something to maliciousness that could otherwise be easily explained by either stupidity or laziness.

  • It’s not a problem now, it wasn’t a problem then, and it won’t be in the future.

This game was not created to let anyone have any peace of mind. If someone is yelling “please don’t kill me” via trumpet you best believe I’m making a dash to them ASAP. You simply made yourself a target.

  • @janceese
Good News: Your progress can not sink to the Deep Seas, as you only progress by turning the stuff in. Everything you have not turned in, is not yours.
We all learn this everyday by robbing, getting robbed or server problems.

Bad News: "We're friendly"/"I mean no harm" is pirate speak for "Come here, we want to trick you".
Don't waste your breath on it. Nobody (with a brain) will listen.

  • @lord-dyonsus

10 minutes is a long time, but sometimes it can't be helped. Solo sailing is just always going to have that risk.

And like the OP said, it's less frustrating if there's a reason. If they'd sunk him so that they could dock, it wouldn't have been as much of an issue.

But that's not what they did. They sunk him, didn't steal his loot and immediately left. Now, there's not much you can do to stop this behavior and even mitigating it is nigh impossible. Sometimes you just gotta get on the forums and blow off a little steam.
