Toxic Galley crews that just want to wreck it for sloops

  • I get it its a pirate game and c**p happens, but when a crew of 4 show up in a galley and attack a solo player sloop on anchor in a port or at an island with nothing onboard but chickens and nobody onboard its a bit weak dont you think. (2 or 3 storming an empty sloop) By the way, both times they were pirate losers (legends) how about honor and respect or do you like picking on the little guys trying to get there. Maybe a demerit system for those Legends dishonoring the code could be thought up.
i had one wave come onboard wave again then shoot. Me unarmed. thats toxic in my eyes.
i enjoy a good battle dont get me wrong and can except defeat if outplayed when you have a chance to start with but the way people are doing it now is wrong. 4v1 or 4v2.
Galleys the bullies of the seas. i will be shooting first from now on.
the last time they didnt even come and check to see if they could get loot. (there wasnt) they just sailed off to find the next victim.
The old line is dont hate the player, hate the game doesnt work if the players are just d*cks... The game is fine and fair if people didnt abuse it.
Those of you who are doing this take a look at yourself and think, its not that fun for the guy on the other side. there are plenty of PVP pirate games out there that cater for that play style..
    Whinge over....

  • Don't anchor. Watch the horizon. If you did a (true) 360° look, it wouldn't have happened. I, personally, do two laps around every island and outpost if playing solo, so there is no possible way of this. Have a lot to sell or do? Check the horizon every ten minutes. You are playing on hard difficulty when alone. They are playing easy in a team of four. You just have to strategize more. Let your sloop sail away without a pilot, board the galleon, anchor them. Get back to your sloop and flee. You can outrun them too if fighting seems hopeless. There are ways around this. Don't give the bully a chance. Brains beats brawn in my opinion. If they fight senselessly, then try to think sensibly. You must be cautious when alone or you will see yourself up for failure. Trust me, I got ran over in the beginning. It's miserable. But learn from mistakes my friend. "Next time I will or won't do this or that". That's advice I wish I received on the first day but had to learn the hard way. It's happened to all of us before. We just keep sailing forward.

  • @slyzman Not all galleon crews are toxic, nor are legends - you just got unlucky my friend. My crew and I never attack any boats which say they're friendly, and we make an effort to help others with the limited time events whenever possible. Look, there's no doubt the people you encountered were toxic, but speaking on behalf of all Galleon crews I can say that we aren't all blood thirsty griefers.

  • I agree. I have adopted a shoot first policy for galleons. Tired of getting burned. I sink them and so the crew no quarter. Just sunk my 5th one today. As far as sloops 50/50 depends on the situation.

  • There is no way they could have known your intentions. Sloops, including solo sloops, are not helpless against galleons. Perhaps they had a timed delivery to make and did not want to take a chance that you were going to try to rob them. Maybe they had another boat in the area they were worried about, and they felt the safest choice was to offload their treasure before they got into a battle. I’ve been a solo player who happened to be on an outpost when a galleon pulled up and began offloading. You bet I am going to try to grab some of their stuff! You knew you were solo, but they could not have known whether there was another player in your crew waiting to ambush them with gun powder near the turn ins. They have a right and good reason for clearing the port rather than risking loosing thier treasure, no matter what you claim your intentions are.

    Welcome to Sea of Thieves.

EDIT: I have to stop using the tablet to post. Way too many typos to fix afterwards.

  • @spunkus-skunkus the problem i am seeing often now is a ship appears calling out they are friendly and dont want to fight and then they open fire with a broadside as you try to speak with them.

fine example from yesterday 2 man crew on cnnon cove on a OOS mission, sloop appears calling out they are friendly tand are just seeking a chest next thing they are dropping gun powder on our ship while we are ashore.

they gained nothiing as we have recently cleared an outpost and we showned no agressive acions on them first. this is scummy behaviour. must be possble to disable the ships guns if the we are friendly communication is used.

  • @bazrutuk All I'm saying is that all galleons aren't filled with horrible people.

  • @bazrutuk Yep. Many are taking advantage of the new crew cooperation/friendlier seas idea. I just trust no one until they’ve shown themselves to be worthy. If someone comes near me, I act as though they mean to sink me. If someone comes to the island I’m on, I act as though they are there for me.

Unless I’m dealing with Explosive Barrels near the beach where my ship is, I leave the anchor up and the sails up and angled to catch the wind when I drop them. I check the horizon often - which can be tough on the larger islands, but it’s the one time you don’t that you get into trouble, I’ve found.

  • Why are you not paying attention to your surroundings? This is the biggest reason people get sunk so fast, you're not paying attention. Sloops are more then capable of taking out galleons, not all of them are great players. Having a 4v1 on your sloop is certainly difficult, but that is why you pay attention and don't allow it to happen in the first place. I've 1v4'd galleon crews when I board them to allow my crewmate in the sloop (always play sloop) to shoot at them. It's possible to win, you just need to pay attention.

  • @bazrutuk lol, yea. When a ship rolls up on us shouting "WERE FRIENDLY!" over and over we prime the guns.

  • @crazyjuan Yep. “WE’RE FRIENDLY” is the first warning sign of an impending attack at this point.

  • Statistically speaking Rare said that about one-third of all players play this game solo, one-third play in teams of two and the last third in teams of four.

So let's say there are 9000 pirates playing right now. That means 3000 solo sloops, 1500 duo sloops and only 750 galleons.
I can guarantee you galleon crews would much rather fight other galleons but the chance to see a sloop is 6 times higher than seeing another galleon.

Now here is the thing, this is actually fixable, Rare just needs to tweak the odds so that it is more likely to encounter a crew of the same size as your own crew.

  • @sanni said in Toxic Galley crews that just want to wreck it for sloops:

There is another way to fix it - put in a decent lobby/clan system and make team work more appealing! Then we could all play the game as Rare intended. It is much more fun to play on a galleon but only if you've got a good crew, not a bunch of AFKers or loot dumpers.

  • There are a lot of toxic sloop crews also

  • It's called "Ganking" and people who do it in games have no skill what so ever. I had a crew on a Galleon follow me around one day as I was getting off, so I let them chase me while I watched an episode of a show. I went passed two other sloops and another Galleon, to see if they would go for the equal battle (I messaged them and told them I was just getting off and that I was by myself) but they didn't want to. At the end, one of the messaged me and say "Sorry, we just like killing s@#$" because I sent my ship off the map and went and ate a burger.

It's usually people who aren't very good at the game who do this. They need the advantage because they couldn't win an equal battle. It's just a sad part of the game.
