While it's nice to find floating barrels in the water every once in a while, especially when you're in need of supplies, experience has taught me that most players tend to ignore them - either because they prefer other gathering methods, such as from islands and outposts, simply because they already have enough, or are prioritizing their voyage or destination. I think there should be more incentive to stop - every once in a while, throw in something else into the mix: a gunpowder barrel, chest, skull, trinket, cage, or merchant crate. It stands to reason that if this stuff can float to shore, that it can also float out at sea. So go ahead and give us a reason to stop, or at least take a closer look.
Add to Floating Barrels
@galactic-geek I personally can't go past a bunch of floating barrels unless our supply barrels are full but I have many times been the only one to jump in, for the good of the crew.
I have often thought about the floating barrels having other goodies in the mix but then you couldn't catch the mer-person back to your ship.

Hence, the incentive to actually stop.
@galactic-geek Nah. I think that they should remain as supplies on the fly. You don't want to break up a voyage and lose momentum with too many stops in between.
Shipwrecks are different. You can get both loot and supplies there.

Or just make it so we can carry barrels on the ship so we don't just keep jumping in the water constantly
It's a plot designed by the evil geniuses to stir up the sharks. lol Bloody mongrels.

Curse the gods!
@admiral-rrrsole funny you should say that. While on a solo sloop I circled back to some floating barrels. As I lifted the sails and anchored to a stop, I saw a familiar movement in the water. Not only does Meg take down ships, she then uses their barrels to lure others in!
Always nice to see you too Meg.
@galactic-geek solo sloops stop 😁
Barrels are all the incentive we need. Easier and quicker than stocking on an island.
