Why is it so taboo for people to want to want to play the game without having to engage in PVP? Like I already see the DEVs don't plan on making a PVE version but why are some people so verbally hostile and aggressive towards anyone who wants PVE? Not even trying to push PVE anymore I just want to know why its frowned upon so fast.
Why so much PVE hate?
@sgt-palooggoo said in Why so much PVE hate?:
Cuz they showed up for a PvP fix, SoT isn't all PvP, but they want it to be
I don't think they do, any mention of a PvP server gets rejected pretty fast. I think many enjoy attacking players who don't want PvP a get off on the reactions.
My guess is that it's a pirate game and pirates steal from other pirates. Lots of people enjoy the pvp aspect and even though lots dont it would be unfair to not have to deal with other pirates and get all the benefits. If they add in a way to pve without pvp it will need to be little reward since there is no risk involved.
Part of the difficulty and thrill of the game is constant risk. PVE hate as you call it is the community that feels you have to earn your reputation/gold. Creating a risk free environment removes the core of this game.
There is an achievement for keeping 20 chests at once. What would the point be if it was “hold 20 chests at the same time without crashing your ship into an island”
I think it's because some people aren't that good at PvP and the shortcut route to grumble is to ask for PvE only servers.
Then we have PvP types that think of the game as PvP only justifying it with 'its Sea of Thieves' but forgetting the meet up and co operation etc.
Finally some people are just inarticulate, rude and sadly a drain on society as whole.
@omnipotence13 I call it "PVE hate" for 2 reasons 1.) it is met with so much negativity. A group I joined on facebook lit me up when I asked about it.
"Sea of Thieves not Sea of Friends"
2.) Because no one wants to try to hear a suggestion from the other side?
Every post or topic I have read instantly buried any talk about PVE.@deathsparrow24 that wouldn't be too bad, like you wouldn't gain rep and you would be paid depending the complexity of the voyage.
Can't gain rep if you don't take the risk. you grind for aesthetics is longer.@viciouskid88 The only issue I see with not earning any reputation at all is that people would end up just complaining in the end. You could just make them earn 10-20% of the gold and rep if they were in pve mode so they would have to grind 5-10 times longer if they didnt want to have pvp involved. No risk little reward so they are still making progress but just at a much slower rate. That way none can abuse the pve system to get ahead of others and the people who just want to go around adventuring and experiencing the beauty of the game can do it while not being disturbed.
@omnipotence13 Because you have more and more PVE threats being introduced. I've been harassed by the Megalodon now since I've been getting on more regularly, and as a solo guy, that's as frightening holding a nice haul of loot, as a fully manned up Galleon. The difference is, I can get away from the Meg by trying to survive and reach an island, I stand no chance when it's 4v1. They are also adding in Skellie ships, as well as entire new areas in which the land itself hates you. So it's not always "smooth sailing" if PVE was focused on a bit more.
PvE will always be less respected than PvP.
If you lose to AI no-one cares cause often times the AI has auto aim, higher health, or just sheer numbers advantage against you. If you lose to Players that shows they outplayed you and/or are better than you. It's skill vs. skill when it comes to PvP. Against AI it's simply how many times you decide to go back and deal a little more damage before the firing squad kills you again. PvE can be interesting but never brings the ingenuity that PvP brings.
Sea of Thieves is a shared world adventure game (SWAG) - it allows for both pve and pvp adventures in a world where the enemy is not only ai but other players.
The game has attracted pirates who enjoy adventuring, exploring, questing and those who enjoy the thrill of ship to ship combat, plundering and battling with other pirates, plus those that enjoy everything the world has to offer so far.
Both groups enjoy the freedom to pursue not only their preferred way of playing, but also to dip into and experience the other - yet neither group wants to lose the things they enjoy about the game.
Sometimes they advocate for more of what they enjoy, perhaps at the expense of other opportunities. Perhaps they are concerned that if one group has a greater voice than any other, the game might change in ways they don't wish to see.
Perhaps they are unsure what Rare intends, it's a pretty unique game after all.
The lack of satisfying pve content is a huge factor in this, and what is there is almost pointless, and there are no repercussions for pvping unless you choose to bring loot when you do it.
The game needs a lot more for the pvp to be in a place where it is justified, or atleast expected as part of the game, and when it isn’t the game should handle it with appropriate repercussions. There is way to much left up to players to decide their opinion, the game needs mechanics that dictate what is considered appropriate rather than the pve consisting of fetch quests that provide stealable items and that’s it. It’s a good start that I agree with for a pirate game but the depth solely depends on the player interaction at this point, which is why pvp is so common and seemingly just for the lols. Because they haven’t provided the right incentives or repercussions, or any real reputation or factions to go with them, or bounties, or anything really.
Might as well be the Wild West as it is now, which will always lead to people doing things just because they can without punishment.
“Don’t hate the player hate the game” is a sentiment that comes to mind and I wish more forum users would realize that from a perspective of giving feedback this should be in the front of everyone’s minds especially.
PHYSICAL.....
It's difficult for people to think of others....when they are not visible.
The digital divide gives a body armour that feels impervious to damage.PSYCHOLOGICAL.....
There's also the tribal aspect to humanity. It's US against THEM.
I enjoy something and YOU DON'T?!?
Boooo. BOOOOOO!LOGICAL......
Sometimes, I think it takes a bit for players to remember that there are others playing the game too.I can feel it when people are running from my sinking ship with nothing...cuz I rarely have anything to steal...there's a very brief pause and then, "hey how's it goin? Like the game?"
😃😂🤣I am always PvE cuz that's the kind of pirate I am.
It's me against the elements.
I detest the dead.
I am not a murderer.
I am not a thief.
I don't steal...I explore.
Stealing isn't honorable.
Murder is far worse.@viciouskid88 I think Rares problem was they didn’t choose a solid path. You have pretty fun PvP ship battles with very boring pve. They should have gone a strong way with either side but instead we get a mediocre swag middle
of the road experience. The game would be great if they made up their mind. I’ll take it either way at this point. Just pick Rare.@omnipotence13 said in Why so much PVE hate?:

There's an achievement for playing long enough to hold 20 chests at once! Well that settles it, can't have a PVE mode now lol
@spent-d said in Why so much PVE hate?:
@dragonsire2016 there is also an achievement for turning in stolen chest from another crew.
lol Thanks I know.
@dragonsire2016 haha, I know you do. I wasn’t trying to insult your intelligence but this is kinda my point before your last post. Pick a side Rare.
@spent-d Yah I have said it many times, the game has an identity problem. Once the next 2 updates come out and they announce whats coming next... I am hoping it will put things in a clear scope.
I expect we will see before the end of the year:
Group finders.
More Island Areas.
Fishing.
Additional Instruments
Additional Foods like coconuts
Pets
More cosmetics.
PVP Challenges
More NPC Quests
Additional Forts@dragonsire2016 yeah, those ideas sound great. I’m on board :) Hopefully we do. And identity crisis is a perfect way to put it.
@spent-d
I enjoy the PvE.
It's repetitive but when you only play a couple of sessions a month...like me..... It's difficult to actually feel the grind that plagues the game.
When PvP happens....I just try to remember that these other players look forward to it and I try to give them what they want....a victim!
LOL 😂🤣No skin off my nose...I'll get a brand new life and a brand new ship.
I might be out a few boards and balls but whatevs....they are e'rwhere.@lil-fokker I definitely hear where you are coming from. I’m going to choose my words carefully.
For pve gamers, there are way better pve games out there.
For PvP players, fighting ships is really fun.
I myself want a rich PvE experience littered with great naval PvP combat. We are no where close to that right now. PvE is greatly lacking. At least the kind that can hold people longer than two days.
I want this game to turn around. Rare needs to bring it one way or the other. They have an update scheduled when RDR 2, and FO 76 come out in October (correct me if I’m wrong). This game will be dead then. The great experience this game COULD have captured will be lost to games that do it better if Rare does not do something quick. Player bounties being one thing.
Hey, how about cosmetic ship customizations Rare? Cannons, Captain quarters, ship lay out. If you’re only going to do cosmetics... put in cosmetics...
@spent-d
Fo sho.
I've already shifted to spending my time on a few other titles.
I might give SOT a playthrough when content/changes drop just to see what's up....but I just don't care enough to finish them to get the next useless trinket that won't change my character AT ALL.
RDR2 will consume me for about a month but I plan on giving back I to Skyrim VR and FO4 VR.....yummers!See RARE!! I'd rather play nearly decade old content than new SOT.....cuz they just give you a world to have adventure in. Not an arena to just get pwned in.
JK....Y'arrrr...doing a great job.
😄Because people who want PVE servers are asking Rare to divert resources to cater specifically for them and people who want personal/private servers are doubling down on that.
Asking for PVE only servers is asking for a different game, they don't want to play sea of theives they want something else entirely. This game isn't a PVE game, it isn't a PVP game, its both and has always been advertised that way.

As a legend, PvP is one of the few things I can do that I enjoy, if I wish to attack your ship I don't give a damn if you are friendly.
This is precisely why the game needs balamcing out based on players SoT PvP history. It is confirmation, ok limited but an honest statement, of what drives a number of players/ex players and people like me to ask for change.
I don't want separate pvp or pve servers but crews to to be graded based on their game history and allotted to servers with similar pvp grade crews.
I personally dislike the PvE aspects of the game due to how samey every encounter is, and any "progression" is just spawning a larger number of ranged skeletons that are able to hit nearly every shot. Simply put, PvE is not fun for me. It feels like I am just clicking M1 until they're done loading me with shot after shot, again as I said, because they never miss.
