PC controls out of control

  • So yesterday we were getting run around on by a pirate using PC. Somehow he could run and jump while eating bananas and/or reloading his gun. It was crazy. My crew is just fine at PvP, but this dude was literally just trolling all of us - running up and down now to stern on the top deck and we couldn’t hardly get a hit on him even as he blunderbussed all.

Ok, I get it “git gud” - we’re already gud - our Xbox controllers just don’t let us eat and run or run and shoot at the same time - let alone make insane turns on a dime. It’s real old.

I thought they were modding or something but no, in game chat sounded just like normal people having a fun time gloating about how we couldn’t land a hit 4-on-1!

Sorry to vent a bit. I’m basically over crossplay though. Just not a level playing field.

  • @haydnsym45 Hey mate sorry to hear this happened to you! If you do suspect someone of cheating in any way please report them to support so rare can investigate. It could turn out to just be a glitch the team wasn’t aware of potentially.

@IK0TT0N I have deleted your post as it has no relevance to the topic at hand and is disrespectful towards the OP. Please Read and Abide by the Forum Rules going forward.

    Spamming, Baiting and Trolling

Posts and threads that are created in order to spam, cause unrest or troll the community will be locked, deleted and the users involved warned.

These actions can be and are not limited to:

Creating threads, posts and content for the sole purpose of causing unrest
Making off topic posts to derail the conversation
Excessively using the same phrase, similar phrases, or gibberish
Bullying and encouraging users to bully others.
Ignoring the warning will result in a temporary ban from the Forums and a final warning. If the action continues, a permanent ban from the Forums will be issued.

  • Like I said, don’t think they were cheating or modding or I would have reported, just taking advantage of PC controls in a way that Xbox controls don’t allow for.

  • I'm playing on pc and can't say I'm that good at PvP.

A galleon attacked me while I was at an outpost with my solo sloop. I could immediately tell that they were xbox players (and not good ones) by their aim.
I was playing music and circling all 4 of them while they were shooting at me with their guns. They hit me only twice. After that, I climbed on their ship and destroyed it with a gunpowder barrel.

I don't like the idea of splitting the playerbase to pc and xbox but that was way too easy. I hope that the keyboard and mouse support that xbox is getting will fix this.

  • @blindnev It won't fix everything, but it will help. Rare needs to make cross-play option and not force it. They also need to patch out the weapon swap one shots.

  • You can't reload and eat at the same time regardless of what you're playing on
So you're accusing this person of cheating

You can however remap buttons on your controller so you can jump and shoot or jump and eat at the same time
So none of your complaints about how pc has an advantage are valid

I have never been able to tell the difference between a pc and a console player
None of my friends on can tell the difference
    On Xbox

    You don't play much.

  • Remapping the controller is a big help. Whoever set up default options had no clue what they were doing

  • Need them PvE servers boys and girls or this will never survive

  • @gloog Ahoy mate, just a reminder to keep replies respectful. I've many many hours sailing the seas and I still don't pay enough attention to the nuances to determine whether another player is on console or pc without asking and I rarely ask.

  • Been playing since opening week. I'm only 49/47/44/2 though...

"Never" is a pretty strong word. It's hard not to tell if you just look at action speed, especially weapon swapping.

I play on PC, mostly with good Xbox players. It's easy to tell. I don't care what RARE does to crossplay. I enjoy the advantages but to say you can't tell or can't see that there are advantages is crazy.

For the record, PC players CANNOT do anything while sprinting...except sprint.

As for it not being a level playing field, you cannot turn as fast...but you also get aim assist that we do not get.

  • @aod-fluid They can switch between jump+eat or jump+reload and run at lightning speed. So it is run then suddenly jumping then run more. All the while turning. The Xbox can’t hardly keep them in field of vision let alone hit in time before they’re off screen.

And generally you can tell right away when someone is on PC: they either start typing to you, or double gun swap kill you or run around like a maniac jump/run swapping. And if they’re in game chat they all sound weird besides. So which of THOSE (gameplay not texting/taking) things have you been able to do on an Xbox controller lately????

  • @aod-fluid - and OMG aim assist... really - how fair...

  • All of them

  • Jump and 180 too

I hate to go to this place, but you chose to game on an Xbox rather than game on a PC. You chose to accept the limitations you have. The only real limitation for you is that you cannot turn the same as a PC player. Aside from that, I am sure switching to things is annoying when you don't have a dedicated button to do it...but you can hot-swap weapons just like a PC, because as I remember, you have a single button press to go from primary to secondary.

  • @aod-fluid - gee thanks. Aren’t you a swell guy. So I guess I’m going to join the masses of reasonable people calling for an end to crossplay. If we’re not able to play the same way with the same limitations then we’re not playing the same game. So count me out.

  • As for it not being a level playing field, you cannot turn as fast...but you also get aim assist that we do not get.

@aod-fluid Aim assist? There's no aim assist. This isn't GTA. That's a straight up lie.

  • I think the majority of these complaints are related to connection issues and some just aren't prepared to admit it. I pay aliens for the fastest internet in the universe. That's how I beat you. 10mg of Unobtainium a month.

  • @haydnsym45
As you can see by the replies, some people still think there is no issue with crossplay. The concept is great, but in practice it fails miserably!
Yes it enables people to play against those on another fomat, but when 1 format has an advantage over the other then it should not be forced crossplay.
The turn speed & aim accuracy in close quarters combat is just so imbalanced it is beyond a joke!

Give the players the choice of whether or not they want to play crossplatform, every other crossplay game does this!!

Im going to take over the baton from my good friend @LogansDadToo in fighting for the optional crossplay cause, as he is no longer able to continue & has been silenced :(

  • @gatorwocky - false in my case. Sorry, mine is super fast cable modem direct, and no packet loss or any of that garbage. There’s no glitch or rubber banding.

I am actually. I spent about the same amount you spent on your console to build this machine that I play on...in 2011. I have done some meager upgrades over the years, and this game runs fine for me...among the many others I play. You chose the console route.

I have had so many console players tell me that there is aim-assist that it is ridiculous. Are you sure?

The simplest thing to remember here is that the primary investor in this game was Microsoft. Microsoft wants this to exist on their platform and wants it to be a crossplay title. This is not going to change, because the suits that do not play the game do not care about anything other than those two things.

Ask for keyboard and mouse support, and get a keyboard and mouse...much better solution.

  • @aod-fluid There's definitely no aim-assist. "Many console players?" I highly doubt that.

  • @seanethermore - I’ve seen a few PC players pull off some incredible shots (distance, moving ship and player one shot kind of bull with the sniper rifle). However that seems to be modding more than anything.

  • @aod-fluid - “get a computer” - this is exactly the attitude I’d expect out of a swell guy such as yourself. Maybe Microsoft should just make it a level playing field. You’ll notice in all my posts that this is all I’m asking for. And I could care less about your garbage PC that still gets a bonus just because it runs c****y Windows.

I did not say "Get a computer." I simply pointed out the fact that you chose the setup you have. I said get a keyboard and mouse and request support for it in the game.

What a load of c**p! ... and you know it's not true.

our Xbox controllers just don’t let us eat and run or run and shoot at the same time

    Neither do PC controls.

The Xbox can’t hardly keep them in field of vision let alone hit in time before they’re off screen.

Yeah we should even the odds. I can only play this game with the lowest settings possible, which produces 15 to 20 frames per second (half to two thirds of Xbox) and I play on a 19" monitor.
If you are so keen to even the odds try dropping down to a similar size TV screen.
Suddenly the PC advantage doesn't look as big as the Xbox one. See what I did there? lol

I can rarely see birds hovering over a shipwreck unless we're within spitting distance from it, the same for ships on the horizon and even I miss seeing crates in shipwrecks that have been pointed out to me by crew mates, as they have simply not rendered in on my system.
I video record all game sessions and have emailed videos to crew mates to prove my case.

Only 14% of the SoT playerbase are on PC and not all of them have million dollar gaming systems or even the required 2GB video card for that matter.
So really, how much of it is simply a matter of being out played?

We shouldn't even dignify this thread with a response.
You lied in your OP from the get-go which incites unrest in the community and should be deleted as per forum rules.

  • Everything Rare puts into the game is designed to encourage positive encounters despite the fact that pirates can kill each other at will.
So this game is more like a social experiment.
This is why crossplay is forced on all of us, SWAG. The more of us playing the same game, the more likely something amazing can happen in a positive way.

The idea of an actual level playing field is an illusion, since every pirates skill and experience level is in the players brain and not in the game engine. A great many players are stoned or drunk as well. There's also the age old internet latency and server issues.
Crossplay imbalance is a thing but so what, if all you really want to do is pvp?

  • @admiral-rrrsole - there’s no lie. I can see where your gamertag comes from though. Try not to be so salty that PC has some advantages.

  • Welcome to crossplay matey... Chances he / she wasn't cheating - it just looks like it to xbox players because we can't match their turnin and aiming speeds.

sry man, as a PC player I can't even do what the OP was describing.

  • @squalzell - there are already PC players on this thread that admitted to the advantage. Maybe need to adjust your mouse sensitivity?
