OK so let me start off by saying I've only been playing SoT for about 3 days now so I'm ready to believe that what I've been experiencing is nothing more than some common knowledge. Stating that I've scoured reddit and the SoT forums heavily with no results.
So onto the mystery, it all started the second time I fired the game up (Xbox One if it matters). Was playing with a friend who was showing me the ropes for a couple hours when he got offline. I continued sailing the seas alone deciding to use all that I'd learned to try to make a pittance, you all know how that goes. As I was sailing from one island to another the sea around me began to glow with a peculiar bright blueish green color. Very similar in color to the mermaid's torch. At first I thought nothing of it, figured it may have just been a trick of the moon's light. Then the sea moaned. Like a ghostly wail. I'm not talking like what the leaves sounds like and it didn't sound like whatever happens at 3, 3:15, and 3:30. I mean a straight up single ghostly moan. Needless to say, I searched desperately everywhere I could for the source of the ghostly wail and light only to find nothing.
After a good 30 minutes of searching I give up and decide to go sell my treasure. A good hour of pirating and no ghostly wails or glowing sea to speak of. It had been at least a few in game nights at that point so the insurance was at that point not a major concern. Only it happened again. This time somewhere different. The whole space between Old Faithful Isle, Blind Man's Lagoon, Shark Fun Camp, and Black Sand Atoll appeared to be lit this time. Not massively but noticeably. Again the solitary ghostly moan hit me. This time the sound most definitely came from the sea. I was in full investigation mode at that point. With nothing to go off of (no internet source, no shared knowledge between friends, literally nothing but my own experiences) I take note of everything I can and I'll share with you all that I know. The source, whatever it may be seems to be steeming from the water. Underwater color is a very subtle yet notable color change. More green and slightly blueish but not too similar in shades as what you can find elsewhere (yes, underwater color tests became a thing and let me tell you how tedious that was.) No matter how long that light stays in the sea, the moan only happens once and it's usually near the beginning. One final thing has become clear, it's occurring at a much more frequent rate. I just barely logged on tonight and every ingame night it happens to me. I'm going to investigate this further and will post my findings. If any want to help me investigate this let me know and we'll exchange gamertags.
Does anyone have any info on what this could be? It'd be exciting to know if I've stumbled upon something undiscovered but I'd rather see if anyone has discovered this before I get too in depth with this.
