New megaladon fights = nothing?

  • So got on today and played for a while and finally had a new Meg encounter fun for sure it was nice to be able to two man it, an don't get me wrong still enjoyable but st the end of it all there were no rewards for the kill. Is the not going to be rewards for these encounters and I just don't mean the Meg I mean all upcoming creature that may be place in the game.. I get it there is a lot of content to be worked with just my two cent. It would be nice for even just a chest or two for fighting these things

  • Meh, maybe make a voyage type to try and hunt the various threats down, but I do really like they idea of them just being a threat. Not everything that can kill you needs to present a potential reward, and that seems to be the intent with these, but as I said I could get behind a new voyage type (probably for Order of Souls) where you hunt down various monsters for them (essentially giving them a secondary use).

That would also make it so the Gold Hoarders and the Order of Souls would have two possible voyage types (Maps & Riddles, Skeletons & Monsters) - so then we'd just need to get a second type of voyage for the Merchant Alliance (and maybe make the Riddles more viable, like making it so you find a relic like a chalice at each step with a chest at the end) and we'd be sitting rather pretty with variety in grinding our way to legends.

  • It's another environment threat like the Kraken. I think it's quite exciting. Just tonight I had two different Megs attack back to back followed by a Kraken attack in the heart of a thunderstorm...it was intense. Took us over an hour to travel between 3 islands! LOL

  • The original didn't drop anything either, nor does the kraken. They're just random encounters, but you're definitely not the first to ask for a reward for killing it. Maybe Rare will take note in the near future.
On a side note, if you fought it on a duo crew do you (or anyone else) know if the new mini-megs spawn for soloers? I didn't get a chance to fight it for THD.

  • Lucky! We sailed 5+ hours today and never got to see the new meg, was really looking forward to it too

  • they should drop a shark skull that you can sell to ole oil eyes.

  • @simplybutta I was on earlier in the day for a couple hours and nothing...tonight the must have smelled us, because every damned creature in the game attacked...we had 8 cannon balls left on our Galleon after the three encounters and we were sitting with about 200 when we started.

  • It's ok for me...my reward is to keep the loot I already have on board
We saw the megalodon yesterday, we where going to an outpost and I was like: "why does the water sound so weird?" I turned around and there it was, but we were already very close to the outpost, so he left...we were busy anyway

  • The question is, why should it drop a reward for defeating it?

There's no mission/quest related with megalodon nor Kraken defeating.
It's like you ask for random "normal" white skeletons that spawn on us to drop us rewards...

They are just threats to difficult our way in our real goal.
Megalodon defeat isn't our goal. It's her goal to defeat.. maybe we should drop a reward for her when she defeated us? 😉

  • An idea on this, Megs and Krakens could drop a tooth or beak, which could be sold to any merchant for 800-1000 with a rep bump comparable to an item of the same value. Could also be sold to a specific NPC, probably Merrick for the Meg teeth (Merrick would need to be placed back in the game, possibly at an outpost or at his spot on shark bait cove) and for kraken beaks the shipwright at Dagger tooth outpost talks about wanting revenge on a kraken. For these specific NPCs either double value compared to the regular merchants or bilge rat doubloons as a reward.

  • Rare really doesn't listen to the fans at all.
Defeating it should drop a golden tooth that you can sell.

  • We had him attack us on the way to outpost after a tough skull fort due to good pvp there with many ships. Believe me, when you beat him or outrun him, you feel very good you saved your loot.

  • I would love if the looted item could be sold to the Bilge Rats, for a few Doubloons. Then I can choose Gold or Rep.

  • They should drop something. Even if its along the lines of a hand full of Messages in bottles (ala from ships they ate/sank) Otherwise its simply another time wasting threat you can just easily avoid by sailing away from.

Sure you get your first "cool story bro" from the initial encounter. But after that honeymoon period is over and realize you don't even get a t-shirt that says "I survived the Kraken ride @seaworld" people will just avoid the thing that slows them down when they are doing normal voyages.

These arent "threats" they are minor annoyances on a larger scale.

Where is the maelstrom+kraken? That could be an interesting threat.

  • @supriseautopsy It spawns regardless of crew size, as far as I can tell. I'm a solo slooper and I saw two of them. And, they aren't mini...

  • I like the new meg fights. It doesn't slow my ship down like the kraken does. So I can just keep sailing and treat it like most of life's problems. Ignore it until it goes away.

  • @nunoazuldimeter I think they should because people don't "waste" time and resources to kill them any more, look at the kraken, at launch every one was fighting him, now? No one, we just run away and live him alone, i'm sure will be the same with the Meg and this is a real miss opportunity in my opinion, just a little incentive (loot) can just improve the general experience. And also the "goal" of the game is to become a PL, again, in my opinion, killing those beasts should count more towards the PL status then selling a chicken 😉

Been asking for some reward for a while now for the kraken. Most likely it will never happen so they will continue to be pointless annoyances that I ignore
