@nacmine I actually want pets to have purpose! A monkey collects and stores bananas for you everywhere you stop and can turn in trinkets to the gold hoarder. A parrot warns you of stowaways and has a minimal pestering talon attack. A hawk gives you extended vision marking enemy ships on your map for a certain circumference. A cat hides the glow of your skulls and stops snakes from biting crewmates when near. I caution though...... Only allow 1 pet per crew! You can do this by putting a pet marker(like the wheel) on the load in screen.
Should SoT be Free to play?
@bern-dimall ya I want pets to have porpoise that would be awesome. One thing one of my usual crew mates is ultra competitive so he’ll be like “no we’re using my pet which is no use to us because of what we’re doing but I don’t care” so I think we should have multiple pets per ship. I mainly want to shoot monkeys out of cannons at people. 4 at a time.
@nacmine random crews are still awful. Last time i tired I got a hacker guy on pc who briged me and my friend and taunted us.. random crews are and always will be a crapshoot
@stubbierbell598 ya it still takes some tries to find a good one. But I’ve played with some great random crews.

I thought the free to play approach would work well with a GTA online model. Leave prices as they are ( everything is already insane) just add "shark cards" where people can just buy their gold with cash.
I always feel a game loses somet'ing when ye can buy in game currency wit' real world currency.
Suddenly ye don't know if the pirate in the fancy hat put in the effort in the game or just dropped $20 on a big pile of gold.

@stubbierbell598 isn’t the game like really cheap now? I paid full price (not complaining that I did - I love it)
Kind of my point. My buddy won't pay 10$ a month to play .33 cents a day. Cheapest I saw it was $30 he's more upset about giving them money because of the content. The thrones kind of set em over the top.
I don't even know if I bought it for em he would play again. I'm sure once more content comes that will change.
But my point is if they are already selling it for a reduced price, why not just make it free in another month or two?
Because I paid full price + Pre ordered and RARE will then be telling players. "Hey, you! the guys who put your faith in us and gave your hard earned money to play our game with what little content there is now we're gonna screw you over that little bit more and make it free to play! so long suckers. thanks for your money! and pre-order our future games! so we can make them free three months after release or five."
no, just no. unless they refund EVERY player that paid full price. otherwise loyal players like myself and many others will feel screwed over and wouldn't buy future products including those micro's because if they can make the $60 game free why can't they make a $5 pet free?
33 cents a day is cheap enough. the game is worth that and if your friend thinks it's not then he shouldn't play it.
Every game reduces it's price and I'm okay with that but I would not be okay with free to play and micro's unless I'm refunded or the game had been out like a year or two and was dying as much as I sympathise with you. :(
@ve111a Much more work went into black desert online (Created its own engine.) game sells for 5 dollars, your point is irrelevant.
@Kashaarafall black desert? really? That game is terrible and no depth. It's a game that doesn't have leg and stands on the cash shop. Comparing a K-MMO to a game like this is laughable. you no pay you no win in those games.
@kashaarafall Black Desert Online, the game that is so well known I had to go look it up after you mentioned it because I've ne'er even heard of it :)
While I’m a fan of F2P games, I just don’t see that happening in this game. Someone mentioned earlier about buying in game currency with real money and not knowing if the person they saw grinded and obtained that sweet gear or just threw $20 and called it a day. I’m a HUGE fan of cosmetics and would pay good money to obtain ones that weren’t available for gold. I’d like to see them continue to add cosmetics that are just gold purchases in game and some that are exclusively micro transactions (looking at you ferryman set (I’d pay $20 for that set in a heartbeat)).
Pets are rumored to be only micro transactions and I’m cool with that too. I love this game and would like Rare to continue developing it with the passion that they are able to do it with now. If it was F2P you’d see an influx of micro transactions but no real improvements to the game because that wouldn’t make them any money.
With Xbox giving multiple free 14 day trials, $1 gamepass offers, or heck even if you bought your friend a pack of Chips O’hoy cookies (SoT branded and in US of course) they’ll get 5 free days of gamepass. I’m ok with reduced prices on games after they are released for a little while but I don’t see Microsoft doing F2P with their first party games. It sort of defeats the purpose of gamepass having them added. SoT and now SoD2 adds value to the price of the gamepass subscription that wouldn’t be there if they were F2P.
Just my 2 doubloons worth...
@awesomecoreusa Whether or not you've heard of it is irrelevant. At one point in time, or even now really, it is a well known/played MMORPG that crafted it's own engine, did dialogues, has a unique trade skill system, multiple classes, player driven economy, diverse combat and PvP+map dominance through control. Oh and it was made by a telephone company and they charge 5 dollars to get in, or 45 when you wanted to be a founder.
The point is, that game has a TON more to it and charges a TON less, so why people think SoT which has literally been mentioned time and time and time again for lack of content and overpriced, should not be cheaper or even free? That's a mystery to me.
